Mayor Joe Hogsett called the shooting “an act of evil in our city,” “a terror to our community” and “a mass murder”:

“This morning, one or more individuals perpetrated an act of evil in our city. While we are still learning more about the circumstances that led to this incident, I want to be very clear about something: What happened this morning was not an act of simple gun violence as tragic as a simple act of gun violence is. What happened this morning was a mass murder, the choice of an individual or individuals to bring — and I do not use these words lightly — terror to our community.

Five people and an unborn child were killed early Sunday morning in Indianapolis, in what city police say was the largest mass casualty shooting in more than a decade.

Kezzie Childs, 42, Raymond Childs, 42, Elijah Childs, 18, Rita Childs, 13, and Kiara Hawkins, 19, and the unborn child of Hawkins were pronounced dead after being found in a home in the 3500 block of Adams Street, according to Sgt. Shane Foley of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

What a very disturbing crime. Who would kill so many members of an entire family including an unborn baby and attempt to kill a small child? LE is staying this is targeted so who is close to this family but was not killed? Any partners of the deceased? Seems like a lot of tags was involved. So sad. I hope this family receives justice swiftly. MOO

The mass shooting on Adams Street was one of nearly a half-dozen shootings that happened across the city in a span of less than five hours that ended in at least seven people hospitalized in addition to those killed.

I think the mayor is occasionally using plurals mainly to avoid saying "he" since that's not confirmed. From the same article:

"IMPD Police Chief Randal Taylor said police believes the victims were targeted by one or more people."

The mayor might know more than the police have publicly confirmed, of course.

Per, RTV6 in Indianapolis, IN: 17 year old teen arrested is a member of the family found shot to death on Adams Street in Indianapolis. WRTV has learned a domestic dispute may have led to the shooting. More than likely the teen will face multiple murder charges and there won’t be a trial until 2022 or 2023.

IMPD says the juvenile male found a block away with gunshot wounds is NOT the juvenile that was arrested, but another apparent victim in the shootings.
