So if she left her car, jogged down flat rock, crossed Newsom and died on the sandbar... that is 1/2 mile? Is that right?

Speculation is that since the river flows in that direction she could have entered the river closer to her car and been washed up onto the sandbar.

I agree the dog theory makes no sense. If she had fallen upstream from the dam and drowned, LE would need divers to find her body.

So for me, she didn't drown.

If there was no foul play, she would have had to get to the sand bar on her own. So how did she die? Why would she chase a loose dog that far? She could have gone to her parents house, get someone to help (even neighbors she would know) and have several people help look. (If it was her dog).

For a stray, I seriously doubt (as a dog rescuer myself) she would run that far (getting there is one thing, getting back is another.... 1/2 mile there is 1 mile round trip). By the time she got to Newsom, she would have given up, especially seeing how far she chased the dog away. At that point, the dog would be clearly fleeing HER. She is doing no good at this point. Newsom is the give up point for chasing dogs (for me it is a lot sooner... at some point she would realize herding the dog over Newsom is a danger to the dog!!!)

She wasn't chasing a dog MOO

Can't happen because of the dam.

Dog theory makes absolutely no sense at all.

That theory was posted on FB by a woman who claimed to be a "dear friend" of the family.

Couldn't find her "dear friend"(mother or mother-in-law of the victim) anywhere on her friend's list.

She would still be findable on facebook since her original post still remains. If she had turned off FB, her original post would have gone *poof*

So agree, maybe a made up story.

Didn't someone upthread have a map that showed the parents home and distance from it? I find it hard to believe that we didn't catch somewhere that she was "found a few feet from her parents house?"

I did a little digging on the infamous "chasing the dog" post. What went viral was a woman that "cut and copied" that snippet, then posted it on HER facebook. HER post is the one that went viral. The woman that copied or posted it, has no ties to the family and she did not copy who it was originally from, the snippet did not contain the original poster name, so there is no way of knowing who exactly posted the original..to my knowledge at least.

Is anyone local? Are there any pics of the bank? Is it very steep? I guess I'm still wondering how, in broad daylight, she would have run right off a steep embankment, knocked herself unconscious at the very least, and then what? dragged herself into the water and drowned?

I hope they tell us tomorrow.

According to where her body was found... it's still more than a "...few feet from her parents' house...".
That is-- if her parents' house is one of the two that are closest to the river and bridge.

Makes no sense at all that her parents' didn't find her that same day --surely they went out and looked around.
Even if they stayed in the house --- a few feet away -- you could see her lying there by the river.

So the "chasing the stray dog" bit was placed there by an unknown who wanted people to think that ? Or someone who thought they were being helpful ?

Sounds misleading and suspicious.
And yet THAT is the 'official' story being reported.

Smdh.
Imo.

Dead bodies sink, and it appears to be more of a weir, so dam is probably incorrect term anyway.

If the force of the water is adequate, a body can still be washed along with the flow without having to float, I believe. When people drown, their bodies are often found downstream from where they entered the water.

Being always aware and taking various safety precautions is more helpful than a gun. Although mace could be used in various situations. That's because typically predators attack suddenly and often talk from behind or the side, giving you no time to grab, load, aim and shoot a gun. Guns are good for times when you have warning. Like when someone is trying to break in and you know they're coming. Or in certain domestic violence cases where the ex is threatening you and banging on the door or windows or following you in a car.

Otherwise predators just surprise a woman. They either aren't visible until the moment of attack or aren't acting obviously threatening until they're on you.

No, women's and children need to learn various precautions to take and how to react if attacked. Being always aware and trusting your gut are two important parts of that.
If you have a gun when you go out, do NOT put it in your purse. Always have it on you!

The Indy Star article says "Watts was going to drop off pets at a relatives' house in Columbus, and they grew concerned when she never arrived, Harris said."

This is the first I had heard that she hadn't made it to her folks' house. Maybe she had her dogs in the car and the windows down and they jumped out chasing an animal? My dogs have a high prey drive and can't concentrate on anything other than what they are chasing. However, I'm not sure what animal would have evaded chase by going into the river.
