Friday morning marked the 3rd pre-trial hearing, which centered on whether incidents in Orr’s past should be allowed during his upcoming trial...

The prosecution stated they have medical records, an audio recording, and body cam video related to a rape allegation, made by Adams against Orr, back in June 2012.

The state is asking the judge to allow those pieces of evidence into trial, as well as a protective order Orr filed against Adams prior to the time she went missing. The prosecution claims it proves there was a “hostile relationship” between the two.

Sullivan Co. Murder Trial Postponed After New Evidence Found

http://www.wbiw.com/local/archive/2016/03/sullivan-co-murder-trail-postponed-after-new-evidence-found.php

New evidence has delayed the murder trial of Johnus Orr.

Orr, of Sullivan, is accused of strangling his stepsister Tiffanie Adams and her unborn baby boy. Adams was eight months pregnant when she was killed. He is facing two counts of murder.

That new evidence is lab results that even Springer wasn't aware of - but the judge did state that the evidence will be allowed. The continuance is to allow the defense time (90 days) to prepare for it in trial, perhaps even to get their own independent analysis.

The trial is now scheduled for June 27.

Jury Selection
http://wthitv.com/2016/06/27/jury-selection-to-begin-in-sullivan-county-murder-trial/
SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Jury selection is currently underway for a high-profile murder trial in Sullivan County.

After three rounds a total of nine jurors have been seated.

Johnus Orr is accused of murdering his step-sister Tiffanie Adams and her unborn son. About 100-potential jurors will be considered for the 12-person jury.

The defense had asked the jurors be sequestered once selected to limit their exposure to media coverage of the trial. But, a judge denied that request.

Tuesday morning, the prosecution and defense will present opening arguments at the murder trial of Johnus Orr. The Sullivan man is accused of killing his step-sister Tiffanie Adams and her unborn child.

With Judge Hugh Hunt presiding, jury selection lasted all day Monday at the Sullivan County Courthouse. Ten men and two women were selected to decide Orr's fate. One woman and one man were chosen as alternates.

During the selection process, the prosecution asked jury candidates a number of questions. Where they get their news. If they regularly send text messages on a cell phone. Would they have difficulty rendering a guilty verdict...............

Jurors at the Johnus Orr murder trial heard opening arguments this morning, followed by testimony from more than a half dozen people.

Prosecutor John Springer started by showing the jury images of Tiffanie Adams five weeks before her death. He also showed Orr's mug shot. Springer reminded jurors that cell phone evidence will be an important element to this case.

In his opening remarks, John Kesler said Orr is not guilty, and the state does not have sufficient evidence to convict beyond all reasonable doubt.

The most emotional testimony of the day came from the father of Adams' unborn child. He said, at the time of Adams' death, he was in the process of creating a better life for his son.

The Sullivan County farmer who discovered Adams body in a corn field also testified. Along with an Indiana State Police crime scene investigator who evaluated the scene. Also, a Vigo County pathologist who did the autopsy, and found benadryl and alcohol in Adams' system.

The autopsy determined Adams died of ligature strangulation. Several photos were admitted into evidence, including a picture of Adams' body with a red jacket tied in a knot around her neck........................(more in link)

Rape allegations surface in Sullivan homicide trial of Johnus Orr
Allegations of rape by defendant Johnus Orr are mentioned in a police document presented to a jury today in Sullivan Superior Court.

Sullivan Police Chief Jesse Morin testified today that Orr sought a protective order in September 2014, stating that he was being harassed by Tiffanie Adams, her mother and his sister, and that they were accusing him of raping them in the past.

Orr is on trial for murder, and is accused of killing Adams -- his stepsister -- and her unborn child in November 2014.

The document admitted into evidence was challenged by defense attorney John Kesler, who noted that the court had ruled that prior allegations of rape by Adams and other women would be prejudicial against Orr during the trial.

Prosecutor John Springer noted, however, that the protective order contains a written statement made by Orr denying the rape allegations.

Judge Hugh Hunt allowed Chief Morin to read his case report to the jury, and allowed the entire protective order to be duplicated and given to the jury for review. The document shows a possible motive, Hunt said, as well as the relationship of the defendant and Adams. Hunt noted that the filing for the protective order occurred only two months prior to the disappearance of Adams, whose body was later found in a field northeast of Sullivan. She had been strangled....(more in link)

Ex-wife testifies in Johnus Orr homicide trial
Lisa Trigg Jun 30, 2016
As the third day of testimony in the Johnus Orr homicide trial began today in Sullivan Superior Court, the ex-wife of defendant Johnus Orr made some statements that caused the jury to perk up.

Amber Rogers, formerly Amber Orr, told Prosecutor John Springer that she made the statement in January 2015 that if she thought Orr was guilty of the murder of Tiffanie Adams, she would divorce him. Springer pointed out that she filed for divorce last November.

Adams went missing on Nov. 5, 2014. The young woman's body was found Dec. 30, 2014 in a farm field northeast of Sullivan.

Springer also recalled Rogers' statements to police in January 2015 on the day her husband was arrested in connection with the homicide. Rogers agreed that she made the statement that a person being choked would fight back. At that time, however, police had not revealed that Adams had died of strangulation. Rogers said she made the statement because she had seen her husband remove his sweatshirt on Nov. 5, and she looked for scratches and other marks on him because she feared he had cheated on her with another woman. She said she saw no marks on him at that time, which was after Adams was reportedly last seen by her boyfriend and father.......(cont in link)

Johnus Orr will be sentenced this morning.

http://www.mywabashvalley.com/news/whats-next-for-johnus-orr

It's been nearly a month since a Sullivan jury found Johnus Orr guilty for the murder of his step sister Tiffanie Adams and her unborn son.

The statute for murder in the state of Indiana is a maximum of 65 years. The Sullivan County judge can give Orr concurrent sentences up to 65 years, meaning Orr will serve both sentences at the same time.

Or the judge can sentence him to consecutive terms, meaning Orr will have to finish one sentence before serving another.

“Justice has been served, but the hurt has no end” Johnus Orr sentenced to 120 years for two counts of murder

http://wthitv.com/2016/07/29/johnus-orr-to-be-sentenced-friday-morning-after-found-guilty-for-murder/

On a beautiful Friday afternoon, family members of Tiffanie Adams never expected to be standing at the foot of her headstone.

“She had always told me that I was like the mom that she never had,” said Sue Adams, Tiffanie’s Aunt.

“I was really happy with the verdict, because I think that he will be in prison for the rest of his life,” said Donna.

Orr faced a maximum of 65 years behind bars for each count of murder. A judge sentenced him to 120 years to be served consecutively.

Court upholds double-murder conviction, sentence

Johnus Luke Orr, 31, was convicted July 1, 2016, in the death of Tiffanie Adams, 20, and her unborn son. He was sentenced later that month to 120 years in prison.

In a 45-page ruling filed Friday, the Indiana Court of Appeals found “the trial court did not abuse its discretion in admitting evidence, instructing the jury, or sentencing Johnus. There was sufficient evidence to support Johnus’s convictions; his convictions did not violate double jeopardy principles; and his sentence is appropriate given the nature of the offenses and his character.”
