I would think if the statement is out there from LE they know she is credible. Why release her statement only to have it shot down? Does not make sense. Not everyone in jail lies. JMO
No not everyone does....
That's correct. As we all know KC would be one who does not, along with accusing innocent people of a crime she committed.
But Maya has already had a polygraph. So we know she is truthful.
LE or SA does not have to explain to us why they feel she is credible.

Do we know Derkovic has passed a polygraph regarding her claims about conversations with Casey?
The Sheriff's Supplemental Report does make mention of Derkovic being polygraphed and passing, but that polygraph was given to as part of the plea agreement in her own criminal case. Is there any documentation of Derkovic passing a polygraph re: her allegations about Casey?
Polygraph? How would they prove she is telling the truth?
I thought I recalled that but thanks for finding it.bbm
Chloroform was not tested for in the toxicology exams. (refer to the single post linked for results)

If I were a juror on this case I would not give credence to anyone making claims while incarcerated. JMHO
We do not know. As far as we know there was no polygraph. That of course does not mean that there could not be one later on...Do we know Derkovic has passed a polygraph regarding her claims about conversations with Casey?

She did NOT "turn herself in". I truly wish this fallacy would not be repeated again and again as fact. LE went to her after they received a tip. This information has been linked in this thread. She is also a repeat offender, maybe different crimes, but repeat offender nonetheless. She strangled a 15 year odl girl while two men held her down by her arms!! Nothing about that makes her less of a killer then Casey if in fact Casey is guilty.
ETA: And Maya HAS been found guilty in a court of law, Casey is still "presumed innocent".

Please check this report. It states that MD did, indeed, turn herself in. She is the one who confessed she killed the fifteen year old. The tip only mentioned her "gang name" which LE did not know. She did not have to come forward but said she did so because she could not live with herself.
Nothing about it does make MD less a killer but at least she did come forward and tell the truth. I believe that was all that LE had asked KC to do. Too much trouble for the princess. Lies are so much more dramatic.
I am interested in the repeat offender part, because as a juvenile we would not know what her record is. JMO
Quoting myself in response...Okay, I typed that wrong. It was when she was jailed for the carjacking that she turned herself in and confessed to the murder...
According to Maya in her interview with the reporter, the police hadn't solved her crime. They thought "Maya" was the victim's friend, and were looking for her gang name, which they hadn't associated with her. She had to prove to the cops that she was who they were looking for!

Very true! I believe the convicted, repentant, truthful killer over the unrepentant, proven liar, check forging, soon-to-be convicted killer. Casey Anthony actually is a convicted felon, just not for murder yet...Hey, at least she's not selling photos and videos of her victim to fund her defense.

Regarding Maya not being able to pronounce chloroform. I can't remember what the words were, but during the interview (pt. 2, I *think*) there was 2 other times that she struggled to pronounce 2 other words correctly as well. The article did say that she was from Bosnia and imo there was a very slight accent of some sort along with traces of 'gangsta-speak.' (for lack of a better word)
Being that she admits to once being in a gang, but says she has worked on the way she speaks/sounds, so as to not sound like she used to. (NOT exactly the wording she used, btw) She probably has to work at relearning to form her words normally, assuming that she ever did speak 'normally'. She appears to me to speak slow and deliberate, like she's trying to speak properly and to me even seemed a little embarrassed when she had trouble..
I'm a skeptic by nature and not taken in very easily at all, but who knows..it wouldn't be the first time I misjudged someone, probably won't be the last either..
The face of Jackie "Angel" Curtis haunted Maya Derkovic for the past nine months.
Finally, the 18-year-old gang member and Orange County Jail inmate couldn't keep her secret anymore.
In an effort to find peace, she told a jailer and later detectives how she choked 15-year-old Angel while two fellow gang members held the victim's arms.
Then someone made an anonymous phone call about a week ago to Crimeline.
The tipster said two people involved in the death had been picked up within weeks of the killing in connection with an armed carjacking near Chickasaw Trail. Those two, awaiting sentencing in jail, were Derkovic and Tolbert.
She confessed to the murder while in jail for a car jacking - before she was even considered a suspect by LE. They had to polygraph her to make sure her confession was truthful.
That is precisely how I recall it.
I know Astraea asked for links. It hasn't been THAT long ago...maybe some of her old docs or articles can be still be found in re. HER case. Pretty sure it received a good amount of press coverage at the time. I'm just not in the mood to go on a google hunt tonight. I agree it is important to back up her story.
I wonder if Angels Mother would feel the same way. It is one thing to hate Casey Anthony for your belief that she killed Caylee, but in my opinion, what Maya did is not excuseable based on that aforementioned hate. I think Angel was Mayas victim and should be treated with as much respect and dignity as Caylee. This is of course just my feeling in regards to that subject.
The order of events has been linked here time and time again. Maya was in jail because of a car jacking. Someone tipped LE off about her involvement in Angels murder. She plea bargained her own sentence by testifying against her fellow gang members (whom I am sure trusted her and found her to be VERY believable themselves, as did the little girl she strangled to death). In that time she has also tried to appeal the Courts decision. This is not a poor naive repentent little girl in my opinion.
There are many reasons for her to lie. First of all, she may very well be hoping for a kinder parole board when it is time. I also do not doubt her very close relationship with RA which is yet another reason to embellish. No where in the supplementaries did they say that Maya said that Casey used a chloroform, nor did she even suggest a rag, which I am sure she could have pronounced easily.
Could someone PLEASE link me to the documents/news stories that state that Maya confessed without having to, because LE didnt know who she was?
