Re: One metre high mound of earth and rubbish... Ireland has a really terrible problem with fly tipping. There's no waste disposal service via the council like in the UK, each household has to contract privately with a waste firm for bin collections. It's very expensive (you could easily be paying €50 a month for a standard wheelie bin and a standard recycling bin). There are very few municipal waste centres and all (AFAIK) charge to take things: a major hassle if you've no van/trailer for example and expensive again. There are also a lot of chancers offering unlicensed waste removal services on Facebook groups (and likely other places) who charge people to take waste away then criminally dump it in the countryside. Consequently there's a lot of rubbish gets dumped into ditches, country lanes, and I'd imagine off the side of a bridge onto a disused railway would be a nice easy spot too. Whether the body was dumped with other material, or in the passage of time other material has been dumped on top of it, will remain to be seen. I wonder if an accumulation like that was instrumental in them initially thinking the remains were very old?

Does anyone know how easy it is or was to access that area? If it was popular with walkers for example, it wouldn't be a great place to bury someone anyway, too easily found by a person or dog.

Easy enough to dump rubbish from a bridge, remote area, ideal for fly tipping. Whoever killed that person could easily have been dumping rubbish now and again to keep it covered over. JMO

Samples were sent for DNA analysis almost three weeks ago.

The DNA process typically takes up to a fortnight, which is why results were expected last week.

An examination of the remains has been carried out by the assistant state pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster at Cork University Hospital. Dr Bolster also visited the scene where the remains were discovered. A forensic anthropologist has been working with investigators.

Forensic examinations currently suggest that the skeletal remains are believed to be a woman aged over 70 years old at the time of death. During the course of that search a complete skeletal remains were located.

Gardaí are planning a major appeal for information to mark the fifth anniversary of the disappearance of Tina Satchwell.

The Cork woman (47) vanished without trace on March 20, 2017 – and no trace has been found of her since then despite multiple searches and trawls of dozens of hours of hours of CCTV security camera footage.

Now, gardaí are to launch a major appeal in the hope it might trigger someone’s memory of a vital piece of information.

A senior detective insisted gardaí remained convinced Ms Satchwell never left Ireland – and that the clues as to what happened to her lie in the east Cork area.

Ms Satchwell disappeared from her home in Youghal, Co Cork, on March 20, 2017.

Despite a massive Garda investigation that included 400 lines of inquiry, 100 hours of CCTV footage and 170 statements, no sign of Tina has been discovered in almost five years.

All leads in the case so far have failed to yield any clue to help solve the mystery over what precisely happened to her in 2017.

Circumstances of Disappearance:
Satchwell went missing from her residence on Grattan Street in Youghal, Co. Cork on Monday 20, March 2017. She was last seen by her husband when she asked him to run an errand in Dungarvan. When he returned home a few hours later, she was not there and the keys were on the ground. She left without leaving a note and also left behind her dogs, which was considered unusual as she took them with her everywhere. Her husband reported she had been "upset" in the days preceding her disappearance and at the time, he assumed she had gone to visit family in Fermoy.

Satchwell was reported missing a few days later when her husband discovered that €26,000 in cash was missing from their home, as well as two suitcases and items of her clothing. At the time of her disappearance, Satchwell was not known to have a passport and there was no evidence that she purchased tickets to travel by plane or ferry. Despite a massive Garda search operation, there has been no trace of Satchwell and her whereabouts remain unknown.
