'A source added: 'Gardaí have had a suspect in this case for a long time. But they have made some significant breakthroughs recently. They are going through this property with a fine-tooth comb now and there are certain areas they are focusing on. There's not much more I can say as this is a live investigation.'

"Gardaí upgraded their investigation into the 2017 disappearance of Tina Satchwell (45) from a missing-person inquiry to a murder probe after they received “significant new intelligence”.
A man questioned by gardaí for two days on suspicion of Ms Satchwell’s murder was released without charge yesterday evening.
The man, who is aged in his 50s and was known to her, was released after being questioned at Cobh garda station on Tuesday and yesterday.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)."

"Skeletal remains have been found in the search for missing Tina Satchwell.

The discovery was made as part of the investigation in Youghal, Co Cork."

"The Irish Mirror understands that the latest search of tragic Tina's home was prompted by new information that a number of renovations had taken place at the house, including reports of digging outside of the property on Grattan Street in the years since her mysterious disappearance in March 2017.

Sources say gardai are probing claims of alleged "late night" activities at the property - including alleged digging outside and work going on inside the house in the early hours of the morning."

"Gardaí have called in Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster to Tina Satchwell's home in Youghal.

It is understood some human remains have been found.

It is also not clear at this stage where exactly any evidence that would need the pathologist to look at has been found.
A garda cadaver dog was taken into the entrance leading to both search sites and was led out about 30 minutes later.
There are currently two search sites. One is the house where the 45-year-old used to live in Youghal, and which gardaí started searching on Tuesday night after the arrest of a man in his 50s.
The other search site is a privately owned laneway to one side of the house."

I don't get it either, how they could have not heard about renovations / work at the time.

Unless he has moved the remains recently, and that is where the digging / renovation tip came from. There are local rumours the neighbours house was sold and the new owners have been having drainage issues, maybe they needed access to his property to check it out and he has tried to move the remains from where he originally buried her.

"A man in his 50s has been arrested after gardaí investigating the suspected murder of Tina Satchwell discovered human remains at a house in Youghal in east Cork.

The man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and is being held at Cobh Garda Station.

The investigation took a dramatic turn shortly after 9am on Thursday morning when a Garda technical team resumed their search of the house and began dismantling alteration work that had been carried out on the property since Ms Satchwell’s disappearance in 2017.

Gardaí are remaining tight-lipped about the precise location of where the human remains were found but it is understood that the body was under floorboards in a downstairs room of the three storey house that is currently cordoned off behind screens by gardaí."

I've a friend in the area who passed on the same rumour, but said the new owners of a neighbouring property (which was derelict (eta or possible semi-derelict) when she went missing) had drain problems, went to investigate and found a skeletal hand. Rumour of course.
