I doubt those generators are in the tunnels. Our generator sits outside our home.

JMO

Maybe so, but I do think generators can be inside. It might depend on their purpose and construction.
I don't know a lot about generators and all of their requirements.

But I have spent several weeks on a sailboat that had a built in generator (below deck) that we would run for power, when mooring in remote locations and we couldn't plug into shore power.

For ventilation.

I guess the Hamas fighters in those tunnels don't need any oxygen like the generators need to run.

You would think that after all these years they would have figured out a ventilation system to support these things. JMO.

I don't know that much about generators, but our son's sailboat has an electric one. They charge it at the marina.
Our home generator unit is outdoors, it is hooked to natural gas which can be deadly if indoors. We have alarms.

I just had a little look, apparently there are battery powered indoor generators.
I imagine they could have power for as long as they had a store of batteries.

By contrast, battery powered indoor generators provide you with the ample amounts of power needed to ensure a medical practice or laboratory environment is properly secure without the additional barriers that can occur when installing gasoline-powered generators.

I just don't see Hamas investing in any kind of generators. The search of all the tunnels hasn't revealed any people whether they be hostages or terrorists. The most that I've seen reported is "wiring" which, to me, is a sign those tunnels relied on electricity. I think Hamas is long gone and the hostages are in Egypt.

JMO

My friend who lived in an area where there were blackouts at times, bought one of those indoor generators.
He ended up buying a couple of them.
Never use a portable generator inside your home, garage, crawlspace, shed or similar area. Deadly levels of carbon monoxide (CO) can quickly build up in these areas and can linger for hours, even after the generator has shut off. Because it is impossible to see, taste or smell the toxic fumes, CO can kill you before you are aware it is in your home. The effects of CO exposure can vary greatly from person to person depending on age, overall health and the concentration and length of exposure.

It sounds as if the Al-Shifa hospital has been mostly evacuated - except the 450 patients who can't be moved. (Presumably medical staff are still with those patients?)

There are conflicting stories.

An AFP reporter witnessed the evacuation, and said that Israeli troops told everyone over loud speaker that they had an hour to evacuate, on Saturday morning. The director of the hospital said that IDF called him to tell him to ensure the evacuation. (AFP is an EU Global News Agency)
Hundreds flee as Israel orders Gaza's main hospital evacuated

The IDF said they didn't order the evacuation. That the director called them to ask them to ensure safe passage for those who wanted to leave.

Why evacuate now?
I feel confident IDF has a recording of all conversations with the hospital.

Maybe IDF is close to discovering another command center, are they close to finding the hostages or more bodies (praying not)?

It's just odd, after all the back and forth over evacuating the infants, letting some died, now they jump ship.

Looking forward for the IDF update, today.

Elon Musk says calls for genocide like ‘from the river to the sea’ to result in suspension

Elon Musk says X users who deploy the terms “decolonization”, “from the river to the sea” and other “similar euphemisms” that “necessarily imply genocide” will be suspended from the platform.

“Clear calls for extreme violence are against our terms of service and will result in suspension,” Musk tweets.

“Anyone calling for a genocide of any people will be suspended,” Musk replies to a user who asks, “So many influential accounts here support Hamas’ massacre. Will you suspend them?”

With great sorrow @MASHAVisrael
learned of the discovery of the body of Clemence Felix Mtenga, a #Tanzanian student who arrived to #ısrael to participate in the Agricultural Internship program & was murdered by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. May he rest in peace
@IsraelinKenya

(sounds like he was murdered and his body taken to Gaza)
Heartbreaking, so young, bright future. As a mom and grandma, I can not imagine the pain.

I think more bodies will be found, soon. I keep wondering about the mass grave, with 82 buried at Al Shifa.

It could be that the IDF want to blow up that tunnel they have found on the hospital grounds? They wouldn't want to be advertising that fact to Hamas. And they would want the civilians to be as protected from the blast as they could be. imo

I am not sure that they can always anticipate the effect of the explosion. In the article I posted about how they destroy the tunnels, it said that one time they blew up a tunnel and (due to the way the tunnels are linked) a building a block away came down too.

I've read both sides of the evacuation and my thoughts...

I do believe IDF may have announced an open corridor and all are free to leave. Amazing how many are leaving.

I believe employees, visitors and patients were prevented from evacuating. Maybe human shields?

Articles emerged of medical staff and families unable to "evacuate", yesterday. Today, they are free to leave.

Shifa response/interpretation implies forced.

Either way, finally they are free to leave, should they choose.

Praying the babies get out and to the border, Egypt is awaiting them !!!!

Yes. It's clear to me that the cause of all the deaths in this war and I mean all, every single one, is because Hamas attacked innocent Israeli citizens starting on 10-7.

There was absolutely no justification to kill and kidnap all of those innocent people. JMO.

Nothing new began on 10-7, it was the continuation of many years of hostilities and Gaza became what is called the ‘World’s largest open-air prison’

What is the Gaza Strip? What you need to know about the territory at the heart of the Israel-Hamas war

Thank you @SophieRose

They seem to have worked out how to incorporate generators into their design of the tunnels.

I didn't realize the tunnels have been under construction since the 1980s. No wonder they are so vast.
I hate to say it, but it is quite the engineering feat. imo

Image caption: A view of destruction after Israeli fighter jets strike residential buildings in Khan Yunis

It is 14:30 in Gaza and Israel, and here is what we know about what's happening so far on the 43rd day of war:

  • Hundreds of patients and most of the medical staff at Gaza's main hospital, Al-Shifa, have left the building heading towards an unspecified destination in the south of Gaza Strip
  • Hamas-run officials there say 120 wounded patients along with an unspecified number of premature babies have been left behind
  • Doctors say Israeli forces ordered the evacuation - but Israel denies this, saying they had agreed to an evacuation request from the hospital's director
  • The evacuation comes as Israel orders residents of Khan Younis, south of Gaza City, to leave the area by 16:00
  • About 26 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike near Khan Younis early on Saturday, according to a Palestinian health official
  • Khan Younis is already struggling with the hundreds of thousands of people who fled from northern Gaza after Israeli orders
  • A UN spokesman has told the BBC that Gaza has not received any fuel since Israel allowed deliveries

Israeli troops order evacuation of hospital 'in the next hour' over loudspeakers - AFP

Israeli troops ordered the evacuation of al-Shifa hospital “in the next hour” over loudspeakers on Saturday, an AFP journalist at the scene reported, as troops combed the facility for Hamas hideouts.

Al-Shifa hospital – Gaza’s biggest – has become the focus of the Israel-Hamas war, now entering its seventh week after the October 7 attacks on southern Israel.

Israel claims Hamas operates a base underneath al-Shifa, a charge the militants deny. The United Nations estimated 2,300 patients, staff and displaced Palestinians were sheltering at Al-Shifa before Israeli troops moved in on Wednesday.

The Hamas health ministry in Gaza has announced dozens of deaths there as a result of power cuts caused by fuel shortages amid intense combat. Israel has made repeated calls for the hospital to be evacuated to the south, however medical professionals say the patients cannot be moved.

The hospital director, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, told AFP Israeli troops instructed him to ensure “the evacuation of patients, wounded, the displaced and medical staff, and that they should move on foot towards the seafront”.

Patients, staff and war evacuees 'leaving al-Shifa hospital'

Health officials say many patients, medical staff and those displaced by the ongoing war have left Gaza’s largest hospital, which was taken over by Israeli forces earlier in the week.

Palestinian officials and the Israeli military offered conflicting versions about what prompted the mass exodus from al-Shifa hospital, AP reported.

Health officials say they received an evacuation order from the military on Saturday morning, while the military said it had offered safe passage to those hoping to leave.

Before the departure, several thousand people, including medical patients in serious condition, were trapped in al-Shifa in dire conditions.

IDF denies ordering evacuation of Al-Shifa hospital but says it is providing route out

The Israeli military has denied ordering the evacuation of Al-Shifa hospital following earlier reports that it had told everyone in the complex to leave within an hour.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had agreed to a request from the director at Al-Shifa for Gazans who wanted to evacuate to do so via a "secure route".

"At no point, did the IDF order the evacuation of patients or medical teams and in fact proposed that any request for medical evacuation will be facilitated by the IDF," a statement said.

Medical staff would stay with patients who are unable to evacuate, the statement continued, saying the IDF had been providing additional food, water and humanitarian assistance to the hospital.

Israeli troops have been searching the hospital, where they say Hamas has a command centre in tunnels below ground. They have found some weapons stashes but so far have not provided evidence of a major command centre.

Large numbers of displaced people have been sheltering in the hospital, where conditions are desperate after intense fighting in the area.

BREAKING

Journalist at Al-Shifa says many people have now left the hospital 'carrying white flags'

Rushdi Abu Alouf
Reporting from Khan Younis

A journalist inside Al-Shifa hospital who I have been speaking to all week tells me he and many others have now left the premises, carrying white flags.

Earlier this week Khader Al Zaanoun spoke of heavy gunfire and interrogations as Israeli forces searched the site.

"The hospital was evacuated except for patients who could not move and a very small number of doctors," he tells me.

He adds:

Quote Message: We raised our hands and carried white flags. Last night was very difficult. The sounds of explosions and gunfire was terrifying. The bulldozers created huge holes in the hospital yard and swept away some buildings".
