Egyptian and Qatari negotiators are pushing for truce extension, Egypt says

Egyptian and Qatari negotiators are working to extend a truce in Gaza for an additional two days to facilitate the release of further hostages and prisoners and to allow more aid into the strip, according to Egypt's State Information Service.

The temporary truce between Israel and Hamas was extended into a seventh day "thanks to intense Egyptian-Qatari efforts," said Diaa Rashwan, head of the State Information Service.

Under the extension agreement, 10 Israeli hostages and 30 Palestinians prisoners are to be released, with the "continued flow of humanitarian aid to the north and south of the Gaza Strip in the same quantities agreed upon in the previous six days of the truce," Rashwan said.

Egypt is "closely following the implementation of the truce agreement," Rashwan said.

After reading about the premature babies left to die of hunger and thirst in the hospital -

I lost hope for peace in this region.

Maybe future generations will achieve something that seems impossible for the present one.

Death of the innocent children on BOTH sides is the fall of humanity in my book.

This is the incredible moment a 'hero' Israeli hostage stared down a masked Hamas terrorist as she was finally released following 53 days in captivity. Rimon Kirsht, 36, was part of the fifth group of Israeli and foreign hostages who were handed back over to Israel on Tuesday as part of a fragile ceasefire deal which is currently set to end tomorrow morning. Blinken meeting with Palestinian Authority president in West Bank

Blinken will meet Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank today, following earlier meetings with Israeli officials in Tel Aviv.

Blinken, who arrived in Israel overnight, met with Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog earlier today, and sat in a meeting of Israel's war Cabinet where he was briefed on the next phase of Israel's war on Gaza.

Blinken's whistle-stop tour of the region, which will include a stop in the United Arab Emirates, will focus on Washington's hopes for Gaza's future if Israel manages to eliminate the organization, a State Department official told Reuters.

Hamas gets to change the rules as they go, remember?
ETA: Wonder if it was meant as a diversion, or just some "freelancers" wreaking havoc.

It could be freelancers, but even if it was, Hamas claimed responsibility and also called for an escalation of violence. They prove over and over again why they can’t be trusted in negotiations.

Agree, and I feel this shooting may be meant to divert attention away from the fact that Hamas is scrambling to hold the upper hand, where hostages are concerned. They obviously can't count. Israel seems to know more about the hostages than Hamas does. jmo

Although Hamas is involved, war was declared in Gaza and the truce likely applies to Gaza.
The truce is about getting the hostages out of Gaza and getting aid for civilians in the Gaza.

War has not been declared in occupied West Bank. They do have Hamas over there too. I believe they have different rules of engagement for the West Bank because it's an occupied area. It's occupied with Israeli citizens and troops.

Violence has not stopped over there since the truce began.

Ben Gvir was totally opposed to the truce from the very beginning. He's also says crazy things like using nuclear bombs. I don't take him seriously. MOO

2 Israeli hostages transferred to Red Cross Thursday, IDF says

Two Israeli hostages have been transferred to the Red Cross Thursday and they are on their way to Israeli territory, the Israel Defense Forces said, citing information it received from the medical group.

In the next few hours, additional Israeli hostages are expected to be transferred to the Red Cross, the military said.

IDF confirms Hamas handed over two Israeli hostages to the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip, and they are being brought to Israel.

A Hamas source told AFP earlier that the terror group would release 10 hostages, including two with Russian citizenship. In previous days, Hamas has released Russian-Israelis as a gesture to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is unclear why these hostages are being released separately.

The option to expel Hamas terrorists and their families from the Strip aims to make it easier to rebuild Gaza after the war.

Moo...both plans are workable.

The first offers hamas relocation to Arab US partner, excludes top leaders.
*A senior Israeli official told The Wall Street Journal that it is not clear that Hamas terrorists would accept the option to leave Gaza if it was offered.
"I don’t see them as rational as the PLO was,” said the official. “It’s a more religious, jihadistic organization connected to the ideas of Iran.”

Plan B, Arab/Egypt control all UN and other revenue streams.
*Another proposal being examined by the IDF is the creation of a "Gaza Restoration Authority" backed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that would be tasked with rebuilding a Hamas-free Gaza.

This handout photo shows yeshiva student Akiva Schwartz, who was wounded in a terror shooting in Jerusalem on November 30, 2023. (Hadassah Hospital)

Akiva Schwartz, a 17-year-old yeshiva student, recalls from his hospital bed how he was wounded when terrorists opened fire at a bus stop at the entrance to Jerusalem this morning.

Three people were killed and six injured in the attack. The slain victims were identified as Livia Dickman, 24, Elimelech Wasserman, 73, and Hannah Ifergan, in her 60s.

Speaking from Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, Schwartz recounts that he woke up, got ready, and left his home in the capital’s Kiryat Moshe neighborhood to head to his studies.

However, he missed his usual bus heading out of the city, so he had to wait another 20 minutes for the next to arrive.

“I was sitting there and playing on my phone. Then I suddenly heard these pops, these shots. I looked and saw this man holding a gun shooting at everyone who was there. I ran,” Schwartz says.

“I felt something weird, like I couldn’t feel something in my leg. I kept half-running, half-limping in the direction of the city center,” he says.

Schwartz stopped near a gas station and called his parents, as a large number of ambulances and other emergency vehicles converged on the scene.

“I went and knocked on the window of an ambulance and told the guy in it that I was injured and that I thought I had shrapnel in my leg. He got out and took care of me. They put me in the ambulance and took me to the hospital,” he says.

IDF says the two released Israeli hostages have been handed over to special forces and members of the Shin Bet in northern Gaza, and they are being escorted to Israeli territory. They will be brought to the Hatzerim airbase. In the coming hours several more hostages will be released.

2 hostages released by Hamas identified as Mia Shem and Amit Soussana

The Israel Defense Forces says two hostages released by Hamas to the Red Cross have been handed over to special forces and members of the Shin Bet security agency in northern Gaza, close to the security barrier.

The pair are identified as 21-year-old Mia Shem and 40-year-old Amit Soussana.

[...]

“The families of the hostages are being updated by IDF representatives with the latest available information,” the IDF says.

Video from Gaza City shows Hamas terrorists handing over Shem and Soussana to the Red Cross before they were transferred to Israeli custody.

That’s true, I guess the West Bank would have different “rules of engagement” although the fact that Hamas continues to commit terrorist attacks on innocent civilians anywhere further reinforces why they can’t be reasoned with.

Also, just to be clear, if you look at the post I was originally responding to, I had snipped out the Ben Gvir article and was only quoting the article that contained the Hamas statement. I agree that Ben Gvir cannot be taken seriously.
