Interesting that Israel is assigning blame to Islamic Jihad and not Hamas. That’s gotta be some specific intelligence. Obviously they’re going to have to offer some proof here, but the damage has already been done.

Palestinian security forces in central Ramallah fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse protesters throwing rocks and chanting against President Mahmoud Abbas.

Speaking from Hamas' viewpoint : Well if I were a Hamas' in a leadership position, or a 'boots on the ground' lower level killer; I'd be heading over to hide behind a patient at that hospital, and quickly !
*cough, cough *

There’s been a wave of international condemnation of Tuesday’s deadly strike on a Gaza hospital, for which Israel is denying responsibility.

The foreign ministry of Turkey said in a statement that it was a “barbaric attack”. “We are deeply indignant that hundreds of Palestinians lost their lives and many more were injured as a result of the targeting of a hospital in Gaza today, and we condemn these barbaric attacks in the strongest terms,” the statement said.

Iran issued a similarly worded statement condemning deaths and injuries to hundreds of “unarmed and defenseless people”, Iranian state media reported. It was, Iran’s foreign ministry said, “a savage war crime”.

A statement from the foreign ministry of Qatar said: “The expansion of Israeli attacks over the Gaza Strip to include hospitals, schools, and other population centers is a dangerous escalation”.

Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau told reporters: “The news coming out of Gaza is horrific and absolutely unacceptable… international law needs to be respected in this and in all cases. There are rules around wars and it’s not acceptable to hit a hospital”.

Egypt and Jordan both issued statements saying they condemned the attack in “the strongest possible terms”.

Reports say violence has erupted between protesters and Palestinian security forces in several cities in the West Bank, Reuters is reporting.

In central Ramallah, tear gas and stun grenades were fired to disperse protesters throwing rocks and chanting against Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas.

The news agency reported anger was boiling over after the deadly attack on a Gaza hospital on Tuesday that the Authority said was a “cold-blooded massacre” by Israel.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), meanwhile, are suggesting the strike was a failed rocket launch by Hamas.

In Jordan’s capital Amman, protesters have reportedly overrun the Israeli embassy, according to video posted to X, formerly Twitter.

The report that Abbas (Abu Mazen) will not meet with Biden I think speaks volumes. Why would Abbas not take this opportunity? Abbas is with Fatah, the political movement that governs the West Bank, not Hamas. He would be the logical person to speak for actual Palestinian people. He is corrupt, but no where near the level of others and is someone that can be talked to. I believe he has been TOLD to not meet with Biden. This Hamas attack has NOT gone according to plan. It was far more bloody than expected, Israel is united, even most liberals in the US are appalled and united with Israel, the EU is supporting Israel, the other Arab nations seem caught unaware and want nothing to do with this. Iran is likely behind this but now is struggling to figure out what to do next. BUT they can NOT have Abbas talking to Biden directly. Iran and Hamas could find themselves cut out of a future plan. The explosion at the hospital is a perfect plan to stop the shelling and looming invasion of Gaza. It also seeks to draw in the Palestinians in the West Bank who up to now had been largely quiet. I don't think there is any question who is behind the explosion of the hospital.

Did the BBC do anything to verify the report that an IDF strike hit the hospital before it ran that report?

Who gains by the destruction of the Gaza hospital? Israel? Of course not. But Hamas and Iran and Hezbollah do.

Interesting to see who is quick to blame Israel.

The hospital situation is heartbreaking, and REEKS of a set-up.

Personally, I do think this was unintentional, but I wouldn’t put it past Hamas or Islamic Jihad to do something like this. I tend to believe this was a failed launch though, and it struck a stockpile. A large amount of these rockets fail and fall back to Gaza. When they do fail, they are loaded with fuel that has yet to burn off. It’s a win/win though, as they can blame Israel.

Hamas says it's willing to release all civilian hostages immediately if Gaza bombing stops

Richard Engel and Natalie Kainz

Hamas officials willing to release all civilian hostages if bombing stops

A senior Hamas official told NBC News' Richard Engel that the group is willing to immediately release all civilian hostages — foreign and Israeli — if Israel stops its airstrikes on Gaza.

The Hamas official said the hostages could be released within the hour as long as Israel meets its terms. He claimed that there is no safe place to release the hostages now.

In exchange for the release of Israeli soldiers held hostage, the Hamas official said Israel must release all Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

The Hamas official also claimed that the U.S. and Israel are already aware of its terms for the release of civilian hostages, because the militant group revealed them in its conversations with the leaders of several Arab countries.

Israel Defense Forces

@IDF

Following an analysis by the IDF's operational systems, a barrage of rockets was launched toward Israel, which passed in the vicinity of the hospital, when it was hit. According to intelligence information from a number of sources we have, Islamic Jihad terrorist organization is responsible for the failed rocket launch that hit the hospital.

'The Israel Defense Forces says that based on “intelligence information,” a failed Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket caused the deadly blast at the Gaza hospital.

In a statement, the IDF says that “an analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit.”

“Intelligence from multiple sources we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza,” the IDF adds.'

“From an analysis of the IDF’s operational systems, an enemy rocket barrage was carried out towards Israel, which passed in the vicinity of the hospital, when it was hit,” the IDF said in a statement.
The IDF went on to say that several intelligence sources indicate that “the PIJ organization is responsible for the failed [rocket] fire that hit the hospital,” The Times of Israel reports. '

Abbas cancels meeting with Biden

Barbara Plett Usher
US State Department correspondent, BBC News

This is a disaster in every way and could be for President Biden’s trip to Israel.
First of all, an explosion at a clearly civilian location like a hospital.
And then, one filled not only with the sick and wounded, but people taking shelter in what they thought was a "safe zone".
The Palestinians are saying it was an Israeli air strike. The Israelis are saying they're investigating the source of the explosion.
The Americans will probably be cautious about what they say, or at least about assigning blame, until there are more details.
But it's going to shift the focus of Biden’s trip much more onto the dangers for Palestinian civilians in Gaza, and strain his discussions with Arab leaders in Amman.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has cancelled his meeting with Biden, which was due to take place in Jordan.

Not surprised, he doesn't want peace.

Was the hospital attack staged by Hasmas to gain support?

Why is the media so quick to judge?

Tear gas fired at demonstrators in Ramallah

More from the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, where demonstrators opposed to the rule of the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority (PA) have clashed with security forces who responded by firing tear gas.
The AFP news agency says people in the crowd are calling for PA President Mahmoud Abbas to quit over how he has responded to the conflict between Israel and his political rivals Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas has cancelled a trip to Jordan where he had been due to meet US President Joe Biden, with an official saying an emergency meeting of the PA's leadership was being convened.

In exchange for the release of Israeli soldiers held hostage, the Hamas official said Israel must release all Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

This is not a negotiation
They also said in a previous stmt earlier that if Israel would stop bombing that they would release hostages. And a little over an hour ago - they said they would release hostages within the hour according to news sources. They aren’t releasing any hostages.
