WASHINGTON — US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman discussed the “shared priority” of “working toward a sustainable peace between Israelis and Palestinians” during their meeting yesterday in Washington, a US readout says.

Blinken during the meeting “affirmed the importance of addressing humanitarian needs in Gaza, preventing further spread of the conflict, and reinforcing regional stability and security, including in Yemen,” the State Department says.

“Blinken underscored the US commitment to support the defense of US partners against threats from state and non-state actors and reaffirmed the enduring value of the US-Saudi strategic partnership,” the readout adds.

Israeli reservists coming home for a brief visit and seeing their kids for the first time in weeks is my new favorite internet content.

We know what we’re fighting for. We know why Hamas must be destroyed.
Oh my... tears. I know what this feels like and it's the best feeling in the world to have your servicemember home and safe.

Israeli tank commander hailed as hero after Hamas attack is killed in Gaza

An Israeli tank commander who was hailed as a hero for his actions during Hamas’s attack on Be’eri kibbutz, the scene of one of the worst massacres on 7 October, has been killed while commanding his tank battalion in northern Gaza.

Lt Col Salman Habaka, 33, a member of Israel’s Druze minority, had rushed to Be’eri with his troops when news of the Hamas attack broke on the morning of 7 October, bringing two tanks to the kibbutz, which engaged members of the militant Islamist group in houses where they were hiding.

He is the most senior officer to have been killed during the IDF’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip, bringing the Israeli military death toll since the ground invasions started last weekend to 18.

15 killed after airstrike on Bureij refugee camp - Gaza civil defence

An Israeli strike has hit a residential building in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least 15 people, the Associated Press reports, citing a spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence.

Residents said dozens of people were trapped under the rubble. Mahmoud Bassal told Qatar’s Al Jazeera television that first responders were struggling to clear the rubble, citing crippled infrastructure and fuel shortages.

The strike created a large crater and severely damaged the surrounding buildings. A survivor speaking to the television network compared it to an earthquake.

IDF troops who engaged in fierce combat with Hamas terrorists for control over an operations base in the Gaza Strip were met with a disturbing tactic: roughly 100 women and children were pushed forward by Hamas to act as a human barrier.

Soldiers of the Givati Infantry Brigade encountered the shocking scenario during the battle for the base of Hamas’s elite Force 17 near Jabaliya in the Gaza Strip. "We stand ready to face more instances of such cynical and brutal use of civilians," an IDF officer said.

The IDF reports that valuable intelligence gathered from the base is contributing to ongoing combat efforts. Amid extensive aerial and ground operations, the military is exercising caution to prevent strikes on areas where Israeli hostages are believed to be held underground.

The Givati Brigade lost 13 troops in total in the early days of the ground operation in Gaza after 11 soldiers of the Tzabar Battalion were killed on Tuesday after their armored personnel carrier was hit by an anti-tank missile in the northern part of the territory.

LISTEN to the conversation between 2 Hamas terrorists during the October 7 massacre, newly revealed by the IDF

(UK PM) Rishi Sunak and the UN secretary general, António Guterres, have agreed on the pressing need to increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the prime minister’s office has said.

“The leaders ... discussed the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and agreed on the importance of urgently scaling up the delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid,” a Downing Street spokesperson said, according to Reuters.

“The prime minister and the secretary general agreed on the need to reinvigorate international efforts to reach a lasting resolution to the conflict and progress work towards a two-state solution.”

The two met during the final day of the inaugural AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park.

IDF: Iran-backed militia moves from Syria to south Lebanon to support Hezbollah

An Iran-sponsored militia originally deployed in Syria has been transferred to south Lebanon to support Hezbollah, says the IDF Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee.

“After a series of failures suffered by Hezbollah against Israel in recent weeks, the Iranian Imam Hussein Brigade, led by a commander known as Zulfiqar, has arrived in southern Lebanon,” Adraee announced in his account on X, formerly Twitter.

The Alma Research Center, which follows security developments along Israel’s northern border, says that the Imam Hussein Brigade is a militia composed primarily of Iraqi Shiites that was integrated into the Fourth Division of the regular Syrian army and operates mainly in the Damascus area.

It has reportedly conducted direct offensive operations against Israel and American soldiers in Syria. The whole Fourth Division, commanded by Maher Assad, brother of Syrian President Bashar Assad, has evolved into an Iranian proxy and reports directly to the Quds Force, the expeditionary arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the Center says.

Politico is reporting that Joe Biden and his top aides believe that Benjamin Netanyahu’s grip on political power is weakening, and that this sentiment has been relayed to Israel’s prime minister in a recent conversation between the two leaders.

The report cites two senior administration officials as well as a current and former US official. All of them reportedly said that the administration believes that Netanyahu’s time in office is limited.

“There’s going to have to be a reckoning within Israeli society about what happened,” one told Politico. “Ultimately, the buck stops on the prime minister’s desk.”

The report notes, however, that Netanyahu is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister and that he has defied political expectations in the past.

Edit: Denied by White House

The White House denies a Politico report according to which US President Joe Biden and his aides believe Benjamin Netanyahu’s days as Israel’s prime minister are numbered — and the American leader has told him as much.

“This description is false. This topic has not been discussed by the president and is not being discussed. Our focus is on the immediate crisis,” National Security Council Spokesperson Adrienne Watson says.

Sirens go off in Galilee border communities

Incoming rocket sirens are sounding in several communities close to the Lebanon border.

Sirens sound in Arab al-Aramshe and Adamit in the Western Galilee, and in Avivim, Margaliot, and Misgav Am in the Upper Galilee.

The alerts comes amid repeated rocket and missile attacks by Hezbollah and allied Palestinian terror factions from southern Lebanon on northern Israel.

An Israeli man killed in a West Bank shooting attack earlier today is named by authorities as Elhanan Klein, from the settlement of Einav.

Klein, 29, was returning home from reserve duty, according to the Samaria Regional Council.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

The attack took place on the Route 557 highway, close to the Palestinian town of Bayt Lid.

His car overturned after being shot at by Palestinian terrorists, and medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The IDF said it launched a manhunt for the suspects behind the attack.

US pediatrician is "relieved" to be out of Gaza, she says. But her thoughts remain with the people still there

From CNN’s Amy Simonson

An American pediatrician who crossed into Egypt Wednesday after being stuck in Gaza told CNN she is "doing pretty well," but her thoughts remain with Gazans who remain in the enclave.

  • "I think I’m in a halo of just relieved to be here," Dr. Barbara Zind said Thursday, speaking to CNN's Poppy Harlow from Cairo. "But I’m just feeling awful for the devastation that the Gazan people are going through right now.”
"There is really no safe place for the Gazan people,” she said.

Zind, a pediatrician from Grand Junction, Colorado, and Ramona Okumura, another aid worker, were among the Americans who left Gaza via the Rafah border crossing on Wednesday.

Zind said she and others from her group were staying in United Nations facilities that were filled with Gazans seeking refuge, adding the amount of toilets and water “inadequate for the tens of thousands of people who showed up.”

"We kept running out of water, and that was water to flush the toilet," Zind said. "We were always fortunate to have drinking water which was not true of the Gazans that were just outside the fence from us. They were running out of drinking water.”

The experience of the last several weeks has yet to fully sink in, Zind indicated. But after the "long process" of leaving Gaza and arriving in Cairo, she said, "I really enjoyed the shower last night."
