GUILTY Italy - Ashley Olsen, 35, American, strangled in Florence, 9 Jan 2016

DNA Solves
DNA Solves
DNA Solves
It sounds as if she was strangled while she was either passed out from drugs, alcohol, or something else. No defensive wounds on her hands would indicate she never gained consciousness and fought back, which she probably would have done if simply asleep.

The lack of a sexual assault could possibly mean a female was involved.

Stalkers come in all shapes, sizes, and genders.

How would one sustain scratches across their knuckles related to finding their partner deceased? Scratches sound more like a victim fighting for their life. Wonder what they'll find under her fingernails in terms of DNA. Hmmmm. JMO

Just speculating - maybe he scratched his knuckles not when administering cpr but when he tried to move her body to a position to be able to give mouth to mouth, banged his hand into a table or something, being all frantic and not careful, etc.

According to Italian media reports and police sources, Olsen was not killed with bare hands. Sources have noted that a computer cable was found at the crime scene, but it's still unclear whether it was used by the killer or killers.

The apartment was found in a state of chaos; broken glass all over the floor, a smashed chair and clothes strewn about. Olsen's body was found wearing only socks.

Two lines of graffiti scrawled on the building's exterior wall sum up how her friends feel, reading, "I love you Ashley" and "He is guilty, he will pay."

Olsen's boyfriend, who found her body, has an alibi, and the landlady who entered the apartment with him said he tried to revive Olsen even though it was obvious she was dead.

So it appears there was a struggle. I wonder what the friends know that we don't as to who "he" is????? So neighbors heard nothing???

A couple of thoughts:

Always a good idea to try and revive someone you killed in front of a witness. Justifies why your DNA is on them. Not saying he did it (and in fact the police seem to be suggesting not) but am interested to hear what his alibi is.

Re the key, where is it? Presumably the boyf/landlady tried the door and it was locked. So how did the killer escape, did he/she lock up behind him/her?

Why was the bra found on the street? Trophy taken and accidentally dropped maybe? Or has she thrown it out of a window to try and attract help?

More questions than answers and until then I'm :fence:

Interesting about broken glass and smashed chair. I was beginning to wonder if it was a sex game gone wrong, but that doesn't really fit with the scene.

Also there was the fact that her computer was used up until Friday afternoon. So even if she did take someone home on Thursday night/Friday morning, would they still be there while she was using her computer? Anything is possible, I suppose.

Great observation about the key. I think we can reasonably assume that the door was locked, given the fact that her boyfriend asked the landlady to let him in. I think he would have at least tried the door before doing that. Right?

So if the door was locked, where is the key? Great point, imo.

Some doors lock w/o a key. They just latch in. I'm not sure if I use the right terminology (English is not my first language), I'm thinking of those locks that click shut w/o the need of turning a key but you can't open them from the outside w/o a key.

The key doesn't bother me at all.

What I find astounding is that nobody heard the noise of the place being smashed and probably the dog barking.

ETA I think we are in for a turbulent ride, with Italian detectives and Italian msm reporting ...

A very moving tribute to Ashley from her closest friends in Florence has been posted on The Florentine, an online news magazine that I follow. She sounded like a really bright, independent spirit and loving friend.

Ashley was a rare and kindhearted spirit. She immediately became a familiar part of life in the Oltrarno where she lived, embraced by everyone who knew her. In Florence ours is a huge community of young and creative expats, from every continent in the world, and we are close-knit. Ashley’s beloved dog, Scout, and her quirky style marked her out. From her long coats to her trademark hats, you never knew what outfit she’d put together next; she wore some crazy things. She loved pastel colours, so all summer we had pastel hair - hers was lilac and mine was pink. From a distance she stood out, you saw her coming. Up close it was the warm and vivacious smile that lit up her whole face that we, and so many others, will remember her by.

It is interesting that her friends send condolences to Ashley's family but not once is there any mention of Ashley's boyfriend in the tribute. MOO.

Her mobile phone is missing, with speculation that the killer may have disposed of it in order to cover up contact he had with the young woman by text, phone call or WhatsApp message.

As suspected.

Police say her boyfriend, Federico Fiorentini, a 43-year-old artist, has a firm alibi and has been able to prove that he was elsewhere at the time of the killing.
More time was needed to establish the exact time of death, investigators said.

How can he have a firm alibi when they have yet to determine her exact time of death?

Police also reportedly found a number of black plastic restraints in the flat, leading the Italian media to speculate that Miss Olsen may have died as a result of a sex game gone wrong.

Someone could have easily staged this to look like a sex game gone wrong as well, IMO.

Initial reports say she was not sexually assaulted, so do they assume she died BEFORE sex?

I guess the autopsy will show if there was sexual activity. I assume they are saying since no visible trauma of something forced we wont know until autopsy. Sounds very personal to me. IMO. If she took someone home from the bar why all the breakage? Unless a violent nutbar? or did she bring someone home. They left and someone didn't like it? I am disturbed by the fact the ex had scratches. Found her which would explain DNA on her person. If somebody had their hands on my throat or a cord I would naturally have my hands on their hands. If neighbors are close in proximity and heard nothing could the violence have been staged???? Too many questions for sure.

Have they released the time the bf found her on Saturday?

My hinky meter....:waitasec:

Maybe the boyfriend needed the landlord to open the door because he didn't have a key.

I don't have the links at my finger tips...

But... I have read a couple of accounts...

1.) The couple lived together

2.) But....the BF didn't have a key...

If this is true ... It raises more questions regarding the status of their relationship right before she was found deceased...

JMO...

Even if the perp stole the cell, the cops should be able to find out what calls/texts were being made in her final hours. I hope so, anyway.

I wonder what was happening on the computer on Friday. Are we sure it was her? Or was someone deleting emails or chat logs?

Hope this is ok to post. If not please delete and I'm sorry mods. Entertainment Tonight just did a piece on this case and stated that Ashley and her boyfriend argued prior to her death. Also they mentioned her social media account where Ashley made a couple of entries re: having a creepy stalker. Just saw this report on tonight's episode.
