NRC ANALYSIS CONTINUES TO SUPPORT JAPAN’S PROTECTIVE ACTIONS

Those recommendations parallel the protective actions the United States would suggest should dose limits reach 1 rem to the entire body and 5 rem for the thyroid, an organ particularly susceptible to radiation uptake. The currently reported Japanese radiation measurements are well below these guidelines.

I'm frustrated by the lack of news coverage on my teevee!

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/16/japan-nuclear-iaea-fire-idUSLDE72F02420110316

Paraphrasing: It was said that this most recent fire at number 4 only lasted 30 minutes, however, TV pictures showed the first sign at 2045 GMT, and still observed smoke or steam at 0100 GMT, however the local story is that there was no sign of any problem at 2115 GMT. (IN other words, big hole in someone's story.)

Also - Diesel generators were in the plan to be used on Number 5 after water levels there fell, but according to "They" the levels were still above the fuel. In 5 hours, the water level in that reactor fell 40cm. The plan was (is?) to use an "optional" generator in number 6 to keep cooling systems going in number 5. (I was not aware at this stage of the game that they had optional systems, but okay, I'll take my pill and shut up.) Japanese authorities would like us to be warm and fuzzy with the news that the entire 12 mile evacuation has been completed successfully.

I'm gonna be on your teevee if mr. teh makes me sit here and listen to Glen Beck.

Here it is in print:

Gov't ups permissible radiation level

The Japanese government has revised upward the permissible level of radiation exposure for workers at the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant

This is just unbelievable.

All of a sudden I feel that WS needs a "Thanks for posting this info, although I am very unhappy with the content of this article" button.

Lots of times that's what I mean...exactly what Not my kids said.

What happened to dropping the boric acid on them? That was announced earlier and now we hear nothing about it.

Eight experts of The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) are scheduled to arrive in Japan on Wednesday, March 16, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

These experts will provide technical advice on managing the situation in Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei share index has surged as much as 6 per cent, after slumping 10.6 per cent earlier in the week.

The fall on Tuesday was the worst since the middle of the financial crisis in October 2008 and, with the market down more than 14 per cent at one stage, it was the biggest intraday slump since the 1987 stock crash.

On Wednesday it looked as if bargain hunters had moved in as the panic eases, despite the nuclear crisis still remaining unresolved with new reports of smoke emanating from the stricken reactor.

Whereas for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon, the Nikkei was falling further every minute, at the opening of trade on Wednesday it was climbing at a similar pace.

The Nikkei opened 1.9 per cent up, but only half an hour after opening it was up 6.2 per cent at 9,141.

Bargain hunters? Really?
See folks, nothing to worry about, stocks are rising, look over here, at this, not at that big angry bubbling cracking leaking spewing nuclear power plant.
Hey, guess what? After arbitrarily raising the so called safe level of radiation, if you expect us to believe that "they" can't fiddle with some numbers and make everything seem normal again, "they" got another think coming.

Okay, I'm out... need to refresh my brain. :eek:fftobed:

I'm so sorry but isn't it a bit late for this?

I have a sinking feeling that from here on out information will be scarce, and what we do hear will be highly censored.

WHite smoke rising over plant (Could be current news, could be old, who knows?). Beleived to be from Number 2. Number 1's fuel rods are 70 percent destroyed, Number 2's fuel rods are 33 percent destroyed, according to the Japanese government. (How would they actually know this, I am quite curious.)

This article says it is a number 6 on the international scale of nuclear oopsies.

BTW, is the Japanese government still insisting it only a 4 on that scale?

CNN just keep looping the part on Anderson Cooper with Jim Walsh that we saw before. It has looped - now on its 4th time.
