This is the week we are supposed to have the big one here in SoCal, starting to day I believe.(according to the ring of fire theory)
My earthquake alert app just told me there was a small quake in southern Alaska, so are things moving around the Ring of Fire?
Just food for thought is all.
I'm feeling a little resigned today...
Tsunamis have been compared to ripples in a pond when something is dropped in the water. So, yes, there can be more than one wave. In fact, tsunami waves have been known to hit land and then bounce back in the opposite direction (like ripples in a bath tub).
What makes it confusing is that "tsunami" means "harbor wave", so each wave or "ripple" may be called a tsunami and the entire event is also called a tsunami.
Lots of tainted water, already...
Radioactive iodine beyond limit detected in tap water in Fukushima
Quote: Radioactive iodine beyond Japan's regulated standard was detected in tap water in a town in Fukushima Prefecture on Thursday, apparently due to the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the government said Saturday.
and
While the substance was found in Tochigi, Gunma, Niigata, Chiba and Saitama prefectures as well as Tokyo, traces of cesium have been also found in tap water in Tochigi and Gunma, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology said, adding the levels would not affect human health even if ingested.

You know, I had thought that the tsunami went in one direction (inland) and eventually lost its momentum and dissipated. But tsunamis do reverse their flow, as a regular wave would, and go back out to the ocean.
This is probably why so many people are still missing - they got washed out to sea by the tsunami.
Some mockery, imo.
Ann Coulter On The OReilly Factor: Radiation Is Actually Good For You
Quote:Nuclear physicist and medical expert Ann Coulter has spoken, and it turns out that a giant radioactive plume floating across the Pacific may be just what the doctor ordered for fretting California residents. On tonights OReilly Factor, Coulter told host Bill OReilly that radiation is good for you,...

Maybe it's because Ann radiates such charm and beauty.
Ann Coulter???????? Don't even get me started. I could rant for DAYS. Ann Coulter my arse. She is nothing but a lousy lawyer, who found it easier to run her mouth on the teevee. To even joke that she's a "nuclear physicist and medical expert" with this crisis going on is bullchit. Her and O'Really make a perfect pair. Let's send them to the front line. OMG. OMGGGGGGGGGGG.
ETA:OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.
If you all want to discuss her theory in earnest, then please start a thread in the PP. Otherwise, let's get back to what is going on in Japan and not detour by way of AC and rants about her as the topic.
This thread has been incredibly informative with lots of great discussion and insight.
Thanks.
LOL, you can name her, just avoid making her the topic. I removed a couple posts that are just rants about AC and nothing to do with the topic at hand.I'll be happy to avoid further discussion of She Who Must Not Be Named.
But I think the point here was a claim (originally from scientists, not SWMNBN) that the additional radiation reaching the U.S. west coast from Japan might actually be a good thing for Californians, Oregonians, etc.
With all the bad news of late, it would be nice to believe our risk of cancer had gone down a little bit, no?
