Why? What reason would they have? The neighbour had seen him after he left the apartment - and is the last person to see him alive, from our understanding.

Because they have a clear connection to the individual (being as they accommodated him the night before his disappearance). You could argue that Ophelia was simply just a witness, but these two quite obviously have vital information pertinent to the case:

Why did Jay separate from his friends and travel a significant distance out of town with them, not 24 hours after arriving in Tenerife?
Why did they not offer him a lift back into town the following morning, or arrange transport?
How did Lucy manage to immediately identify the property based on absolutely nothing but a blurry picture of the doorstep?

To put it in a different perspective - In the UK, if a teenager was separated from their friends and spent the night in the home of two men who were previously completely unknown to them, and subsequently vanished without a trace the next day, do you not think that those two individuals would absolutely be the focus of the investigation? Why is this any different?
It was the last place he is confirmed to have stayed before disappearing. It's bonkers that the two men in question were allowed to up and leave as abruptly as they did. Which begs the question 'why'?

Jay Slater missing – latest: Teenager ‘spotted watching Euro 2024 matches’ on the Tenerife coast

From this article:

Police have spoken to several people who said they may have spotted Jay Slater watching Euro 2024 matches on the Tenerife coast, a local mayor has said.

Emilio Jose Navarro said police had interviewed several people who may have seen him.
It comes as Spanish police are examining CCTV footage from a local town near where the 19-year-old disappeared.
“We know the police are investigating (the CCTV images). They have asked for the town hall’s security cameras and they are also working with the company that handles those cameras,” Mr Navarro said

I highly doubt they saw him. But stranger things have happened.

IMO

The tragedy of the teen missing abroad during holidays
is being exploited by ALL kinds of media
which whip up sensationalism during dry/not newsworthy holiday season.

"Cucumber season" as we call it my country,
I might add.

Let LE do their job.

A “parallel operation” is being conducted into the circumstances surrounding Jay Slater’s disappearance with even the teen’s family not privy to its details, according to journalist Gerard Couzens.

Speaking to reporters, Warren Slater was recorded saying: “Nobody’s told us. The mountain police [have been] brilliant... but I don’t know how the other police [force] works.

I really hope it is him, atleast we would know he is alive, but what 19 year old kid just decides to take themselves to a place they don’t know and just come off social media and have no contact with friends and family . Where would he be staying and where would the money be coming from ? All the while just sitting quite the thing watching the football with not a worry in the world while a massive search is going on for him ? You’re right, stranger things have happened but imo I just don’t see it.

It's normally the last person to see someone that would be questioned at length, so it's not the 2 men

But it could well be the 2 men who were the last people- the owner drove past him before he phoned Lucy and she advised him to go back the way he came- which would have got him back to the apartment after not too long.
