I think much more likely that the Rolex reference is a drug reference. Not sure which one, but this link has it as slang for cocaine. https://www.dea.gov/sites/default/files/2018-07/DIR-020-17 Drug Slang Code Words.pdf

This would explain why there has been such certainty around the value of the "Rolex". A street value of £12k sounds more plausible than the known value of a watch. The men who took Jay to the AirBnb were known dealers. They may have put him up to stealing the gear, removed him far from the scene, paid him (or not) for the job and threatened him that he would be hunted down by the person he stole from so better make himself scarce.

Jay's friends could well be omitting key drug-related information for fear of trouble, and might be happy to see media, LE and private investigators running with the idea that it was a watch.
Unlikely he was paid anything, if he was and wanted to make himself scarce quickly he will have got a taxi to go back to Los Cristianos

I think it's highly unlikely that there's one bloke walking around a nightclub in Tenerife with £12k of cocaine in his bag. That's not how it works out there. They split it into '20 bags' and distribute these between the younger dealers who then sell it on the floor.
The whole point is to reduce losses should one of the dealers get mugged/lose their product/get arrested.
The bulk product gets nowhere near the club.
I get that, but who's to say it wasn't stolen from the main dealer. Also, we don't know for sure what happened when he left the club.
Perhaps something happened around the area where the club was, and he had an opportunity to steal the large amount of drugs. he was seen with an over the shoulder bag in the club, and was wondering around like he was watching people. JMO.

<modsnip> ... with a history of drug dealing, booking a 3 day rental in the remote mountains of Tenerife? Loitering around a rave but not attending? Ok.
and, <modsnip>, quickly befriending a small group of much younger people, then taking just one of them back to the remote mountains an hour's drive away, at 6am at the end of the rave, almost at the point that the rental ended, I think it's fair to say that's questionable, and also seems odd for someone not that long out of prison.

You wouldn't be stealing that amount of drugs from the main man he would have his heavies around him and that quantity would be way offside only an inside man would get his hands on that and no indication jay was hooked up to the main gangsters in Tenerife usually in drug circles it's a production line run like any legitimate business so manufacturers, wholesale ,and the sellers on the street like the shopkeepers

Although I do think Jay if he's sadly passed, did so after hiking in the heat and not having any water/cover etc, there remains a big question over *why* he went to that Airbnb.

It's too much to suggest that drugs weren't somehow involved. There is no real reason for him to go there - in my humble opinion - unless it was for some sort of 'deal' or drugs-related activity.

Everything the British man who rented the Airbnb has said is nonsensical. Jay's mates did not 'abandon' or 'leave him'. In fact every report has stated that Lucy especially tried to persuade Jay to go WITH her back to their apartment.

Yes Jay and his friends had been socialising with the two older men during the holiday, but I don't for one minute believe he went with them all the way to that remote rental just to enjoy a chat...

Now, it may be that whatever went on at the rental had nothing to do with Jay's subsequent disappearance; it may be that when their 'business' was concluded, Jay was tired and decided to head off, and then got lost, dehydrated, etc and sadly simply hasn't been found yet.

Or - and I could see this - he decided to abscond with something he saw at the rental. Whether that's a watch, or drugs, or cash, he grabbed it and then knew he had to get the hell out of there.

That, again in my humble view, would explain why when on the phone to his friends he apparently stated he 'could not' return to the rental to get a lift/water/help.

He couldn't go back because by then, the two men might have discovered that he'd pinched something.

This also explains why he deviated from the path - he knew they might come looking from him.

Just some little wonderings...

I'm thinking even if nothing bad happened at the airbnb, when Jay left there for whatever reason, maybe he was that far away that he couldn't go back because he knew they'd be checking out soon so wouldn't be there.

Someone in an earlier reply mentioned the airbnb men stayed were still at the airbnb after check out time. As the police hadn't spoken to them yet, maybe they were hanging around as they needed to find Jay if he had been involved in something dodgy with or to them.

I'm still curious about the news report of someone seeing someone who looked similar to Jay looking worse for wear sitting on a bench with 2 older men. I can't help but wonder if it was them all along and the 2 men had caught up with Jay and found him in his dehydrated / unwell state and then marched him off somewhere.

She should not need to do this this is a post from Debbie
I feel the need to post this to your group and then I shall remove myself. I joined this group to share the positivity and love from the British public. It seems through no fault of my own you have all decided to make up your own minds. It is really sad I have felt the need to do this. My beautiful son Jay is still missing and believe me this is no holiday. He came on his first holiday to Tenerife to attend the NRG music event. What mystery surrounding his disappearance may never surface. We as a family are truly devastated. I did not ask for publicity from the start and was not aware that the first missing poster had my telephone number on it. It should have had the SOS Guardia Civil but like I say this was out of my control. Whatever decision you have in your minds I cannot control this either. We are a normal working family from Lancashire going through hell. I would like to thank the genuine people for their love and support at this difficult time and to continue to pray for Jay to be found. For those of you who are more concerned around the page I can assure you that up to now it has not been used and our stay up to now has been financed by ourselves. I do have proof of transactions and transfers to other persons but I should not have to justify this. So you can make up your own minds. If any of you in this group have donated I am thankful . For the other mothers out there. Please continue to pray . Thank you

Jay Slater ended up back at Airbnb with two older British men because 'all his friends had left him' - as detective slams Spanish cops for closing investigation 'early' to protect tourism on the island

"However I’ve been speaking to a really, really kind woman this morning and the situation to be honest guys is Scottish mountain rescue would like to come out, they’d like to attend, they’ve been following everything very closely of course."

He said: “And they’re very impressed with what’s been going on, not only that, they wanted to say thank-you to everyone who’s been donating to the Scottish mountain rescue fund. We’ve raised quite a lot of money so thank you so much.

“In regard to the whole situation guys, basically they do want to come out, they can’t just fly over, it’s not as simple as that. For them to actually come over they need to have permission from Scotland Police. That’s how it works, so right now we’re trying to get permission, we’re trying to get authority from Scotland Police and we’ll see what happens.

“But Scottish mountain rescue are an amazing group of people, they’re fully behind us, they really want to come and help. It’s just a certain procedure that has to be done first guys.

I am not convinced he absconded with anything of theirs, if he stole from them it wouldn’t take long for them to get their revenge in England, they would have hunted him down there, especially as they associates of Lucy, he would have no hiding place

Why would they need permission from the Scottish police? Surely they are a separate to the police force, but work in tandem on missing people in Scotland.

He might have just gone back for a smoke with company he enjoyed.
