He told his friend Lucy (on the 8:50am call) he had cut his leg on cactus and all the various hiking groups warn about cactus in the area. I am inclined to believe the pinged post is the most accurate but take the last known location (villa) with a pinch of salt.

His hotel was in los christianos
Agreed. And it's unlikely that you'd cut your leg on a cactus if you are walking on the road. Much more likely off-road and in the pinged location which is minor partially overgrown hiking trail.

yes, so thinking the hiking trail is the most probable route. Maybe it’s where the map told him to go as mentioned above.

Yes, and that makes sense. It's a track that people in-and-out hike so Maps would indicate popularity. In June though those walks aren't so attractive for tourists in the heat and those rural areas of Tenerife have changed so much that locals don't have the reasons to venture down the old trails and herding tracks. Really concerning.

According to Google Maps it is an 11 hour walk from Masca to Los Cristianos. That seems to tie in with earlier media reports re a 10 or 11 hour walk, imo.

Hey folks, please remember that Websleuths requires links. Even maps require links unless there is a chyron that is visible on the screenshot. Copyright rules require that credit be given to the original source.

Also, providing a link allows other members a quick click to go to the exact spot you're showing without having to search for it themselves.

Old WS adage .. NO LINK, NO POST !!

I would have stayed on the road and hitchhiked
I agree, the correct thing to do was to find a shaded spot close to the road and until a car passes and wave for help. There is no shame in asking a stranger for help when needed. Or had he headed in either direction of the road, he would have arrived at small settlements and would be given water and told directions. Roads lead to civilisation, mountain trails do not. This seems like such a serious error in judgement, to choose a several hour hike in such a hot climate with no water, phone or anything.

But I still think there is a strong possibility he is found. It's good search parties acted so quickly.

From the article posted above it looks as though the festival took place at different locations.

Jay has been in Tenerife for a few days with two of his friends - Lucy and Brad - from England to attend the NRG festival, an event held at the Xanadu farm restaurant in Las Chafiras, San Miguel de Abona, that also included parties at the Papagayo nightclub in Las Americas and the Hard Rock Hotel in Playa Paraiso, as well as party boat trips.

Very concerning. The temperatures don't look extremely high which is a positive. Hopefully he's been able to source some water and shelter.

There are members of the public out looking at him posting publicly on Facebook, and of course professional searchers, drones etc. Hopeful for a positive outcome.

It’s heartbreaking. Really is. It’s as if he has quite literally walked in the wrong direction to adeje then went off the beaten track. Had he just kept on the road south he would have came to Santiago village. The what ifs are too much to bare.

Also frustrating that there are bus stops all the way down that TF-436 road. Few and fair between but they are there. Line 355 I believe.

Gaining traction at least. Albeit the description of clothing is wrong, it’s just the tiny details that do make the difference imo

Bless his friend Lucy, she really did act quick .
