The co-owner of Rapture has spoken before but not in as much detail about JM:

Cecilia Rodi, owner of Rapture restaurant and bar, said that a bouncer working the doors that night saw Graham walking down the mall. Rodi said that the bouncer later saw Graham speaking with a large man; Matthew is 6-foot-2 and weighs 270 pounds.

It was the Rapture bouncer who claimed to have seen Hannah alone and then Hannah with a "large man" (to my recollection) "later." I questioned then how much later was later. Did he see JM approach Hannah, or did he see them walking back towards Rapture after they left Tempo? To me, seeing her alone and then seeing him approach her would be one incident, not "later."

FindHG, I can't use your link. But keep in mind what JM had to accomplish on the Mall. Not only did he have to get past WG, he had to cross over from the interior of the Mall to right along the windows of the storefronts. It seems to me WG would have been able to view him from multiple angles, particularly if he was concerned about HG.

But I don't want to get into a major fight about this. Right now, I just want to hunt down facts and try to interpret them.

Me too. No Sweat. I know what you mean. I had the same thoughts when I first watched the videos. JM was in front of Hannah Graham, saw her, crossed over through the trees, then tracked her behind WG (Sal's cam). Then, you see WG following them both (Teul's cam). Seemed real fishy.

Maybe, in between those two videos she stopped at the door of another place or just slowed down long enough to check things out. Maybe that's when JM over took Hannah, the white guy was probably standing back watching, and JM swings into action, looking real familiar like he knew Hannah, dispelling all WG's doubts. Maybe he chose Tempo because he wouldn't stand out. He'd just been there. Maybe JM was in predator mode and calculating his next moves as soon as he sees her from across the mall. I'll trust Chief Longo on this one.

Ofcourse, the WG could be a part of some setup, but given all that is known now publicly, it is a stretch. Conspiracies require a certain level of trust and wear down with time. This has been going on for a while. Not many people trusted JM. His Mom, I recall reading, had worked at the hospital, and helped him get that job. He qualified for the coaching position through a reference from the hospital. There aren't that many colleagues and friends etc... out there vouching for him without qualifying what they say, as more information comes out. I hope his colleagues and friends cooperate with the investigation to find Hannah Graham.

Actually, Concerned Mama, the way that MH was "laid to rest" in a peaceful place by the water suggests that the person who put her there had some kind of conscience. This also fits with what the VA State Police have said about a suspect that had a deep sense of shame. Those two things would seem to fit well with what we know about JM's background.

None of this to say that JM is a good guy, and hasn't committed some very evil acts. I am just not sure he did it by himself.

I see what you're saying. I think differently.

I don't seem to be having as hard of a time as some people are having with believing that it's possible for JM to be both a "gentle giant" and a serial killer, for him to have been one thing to his friends and family and a horrible thing to some women he encountered. Maybe it's because I don't believe in monsters. When people do horrible things, many of us label them monsters and then we can't imagine they have any good in them. We're surprised every time that someone is capable of the crimes they commit and also capable of having been a friend or beloved relative. Even though it happens this way time and time again.

Monsters aren't real...people are. And people are complex, we have many sides--all of us--to different degrees. JM looks to have done monstrous things, and he's human and those actions aren't the sum total of who he is. (not that I'm condoning the actions at all. also not implying that he's a "good" person regardless) Just thinking through why I'm surprised at people being surprised. Sharing in case anyone else feels the same. IMO and all that...

His poor performance on school work isn't an accurate indicator of overall intelligence. It could also indicate someone who didn't like school, ignored lessons, didn't practice or do homework. That's not uncommon in student athletes who prefer to focus their attention on sports instead of studies. We all have probably known people like that from school, people who had poor grades but excelled in other areas.

I see what you're saying. I think differently.

I don't seem to be having as hard of a time as some people are having with believing that it's possible for JM to be both a "gentle giant" and a serial killer, for him to have been one thing to his friends and family and a horrible thing to some women he encountered. Maybe it's because I don't believe in monsters. When people do horrible things, many of us label them monsters and then we can't imagine they have any good in them. We're surprised every time that someone is capable of the crimes they commit and also capable of having been a friend or beloved relative. Even though it happens this way time and time again.

Monsters aren't real...people are. And people are complex, we have many sides--all of us--to different degrees. JM looks to have done monstrous things, and he's human and those actions aren't the sum total of who he is. (not that I'm condoning the actions at all. also not implying that he's a "good" person regardless) Just thinking through why I'm surprised at people being surprised. Sharing in case anyone else feels the same. IMO and all that...

This ^^^ is an amazing post! It also explains why many, myself included, have such a hard time "seeing" evil when we look at him. We so want to find a way to determine that this kind of thing could be avoided, that somehow we would recognize a "monster" but the truth is we wouldn't. Sociopaths are very good at living duel lives. Part of what makes them so dangerous is that people don't consider them dangerous. Hannah was a very smart girl. If she didn't see it, none of us would have.
