All good points IMO. Just out of curiosity, why does it throw up a red flag for you when someone goes to police station to report missing person; as opposed to calling police station instead

I feel reporting a missing child at the police station rather than calling is a red flag because
- Maybe they are trying to avoid the 911 call being recorded. So I ask myself, why?
- It takes a lot longer to go in person. That's time you've left the scene of your missing child and are not outside searching. Why would you do that?
- There have been cases where parents who were later found guilty of harming their child reported it in person rather than calling. I assume they didn't want that infamous 911 call to exist.

What an absolute mess of a family. Holy lord. RIP Olivia... Only 3 years old. I just don't understand how you can hurt a precious baby like that. It makes no sense to me at all. Olivia's siblings/step-siblings seem heartbroken.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Wyandotte County District Attorney announced formal charges against Howard Jansen, the father of 3-year-old Olivia Jansen, and Jacqulyn Kirkpatrick, Jansen’s girlfriend on Sunday night.

Jansen has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child endangerment and criminal desecration. Kirkpatrick faces the same charges.

Prosecutors are asking for a bond of $500,00 for each of them.

IMO maybe control issues?

EBM: IMO maybe spite against grandparents? Difficult to say why they would not give her to someone that would protect her. Denial?

If HJ3 gave Olivia to her grandparents, that might ruin the "loving father" illusion this guy wanted to put on (which he failed to do anyway IMO). Look at his Facebook profiles, especially the old ones. When he isn't whining and complaining (I'm sure he thinks it makes him look tough to be constantly angry), he is posting pics about how perfect his relationship is and what a great dad he is. He is all show.

Here’s is step- moms post about their upcoming wedding. The post was from March, the comments and hashtags indicate it was to take place July 4, 2020.

ETA: Their “lovely” photo. Gag!

It's kinda wild how fast this relationship moved. Whitney (bio mom) goes to jail on January 15, then Jackie says she's "taken" January 22, and they're trying to get married July 4 (doesn't seem like they actually did though). And Olivia is definitely dead by July 10. All this in 6 months.

I always find FB profiles of these types of parents to be supremely interesting. There seems to be two types:
Those who are outwardly trashy (either knowingly or not) (dad's FB for example) and those who attempt to make themselves look like good, normal people, but to actual normal people, it's still obvious they are trashy or trying too hard.(Fiance's facebook for example)

I know the old saying is that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but the reality (especially in "missing kids" cases) is that you can often predict where things are likely headed with no other information or case details other than the parents' facebook pages. One glance or quick read of a few posts and comments can often tell quite a bit. And these 2 morons are no different. My opinion only.

This is sooo damn sad it’s disgusting!! Is it me or are these parents going nuts, this is all i see lately!
I feel your pain Seratonin, it's beyond comprehension to most of us. I have had to take a step back from following most child cases lately, we had a rough patch here on WS last year with Darnell, Noah, Maleiah, Serenity, Cupcake, Amiah, AJ and so many more.

Each of those precious ones took a little piece of my heart with them. :(

Olivia’s grandmother, Elisabeth Jansen, told KSHB 41 that they last saw the child in March. Olivia reportedly didn’t want to go home and wanted her grandparents’ assurance that she could come back to see them.

“She was always so unhappy to go home. She would frown and say, ‘You love me? You’re not mad at me? I come back? I come back?’ [sic] and I told her, ‘I will hurt anybody who that keeps you away from me.'”

Elisabeth added that although they contacted DCF, no one removed Olivia from her father’s care. “They wouldn’t do anything other than knock at the door–and so I was on the phone with them June 22 for 23 minutes telling them everything I could think of to tell them, and then they sent me an email on Thursday that I can send them more stuff but for me to know they wouldn’t be contacting me.”

Wow, so heartbreaking to find out that the grandparents were reporting the bad conditions. It reminds me Noah's (in California) grandparents. They tried going to CPS too.

Unfortunately, this is a common scenario with many child cases that I have followed. CPS fail to save the abuse victims, and the family members who make reports to CPS are cut off by the abusers from seeing the children.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Sources say an eyewitness led police to the spot where 3-year-old Olivia Jansen’s body was found Friday near 34th and Steele Road.

The KCK girl’s body was found in what police describe as a shallow grave off a path in a wooded area about nine hours after her father, Howard Jansen III, reported her missing Friday.

Sources tell FOX4 if it weren’t for an alert neighbor, Olivia’s body may have never been found.

Family of the eyewitness say he’s on the autism spectrum and didn’t want to talk, but a neighbor who helped him contact police told FOX4 her story.

“He was out doing stuff in the yard,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution.

She lives near the eyewitness and said he told her that he saw a silver SUV parked by the path around 7:30 a.m. Friday, one hour before Olivia’s father reported her missing.

This is absolutely amazing good luck. Thank God for the alert eyewitness, and the woman who followed through for him with a tip to LE.

Olivia's grandparents also helped by informing LE that Olivia and her father had not even lived at the house he reported as being the last time he saw her for 6 months.
