I'm no anthropologist but I think there is a difference between looking Native American and being Native American.

could be her, I can't say but there must have been something about the remains that cause them to classify her as Native American to the exclusion of other groups.

I just mentioned this on a different thread yesterday. They can tell Native American ancestry from the shapes of the posterior side of their upper front teeth

Shovel Shaped Incisors, indicative of East Asian and Native American ethnicity.

KY has a large population of Native Americans. I doubt it is someone as far as MI my money is on Sonya, She was depressed and a bullet to the skull could mean suicide

If that was the case, you would expect to find a weapon in the vicinity, and she probably would not pick a roadside to perform the act. A roadside body (i.e., with a bullet hole in the skull) would seem to indicate that it was dumped.

One thing that could be important in this case: the individual could have been caucasian looking even if she had Native American ancestry.

It's possible that an examination of her bones might reveal that she was Native American or part Native American but she could still look like another ethnicity. For example, I have shovel shaped incisors and my father is in fact 87.5% aboriginal. My mother however is caucasian and my skin is white.

If my bones were found police would probably designate me as Native American, in a way correctly. However in this hypothetical scenario if you started looking for red-skinned people who went missing in the area you would not be looking at my Doe-network picture because I look as caucasian as a native scotsmen.

I think this has to do with phenotype and genotype. My Native American genes are visually represented in my incisors but not in my skin color.

There's no way to conclude that we should be looking for someone who looks like a typical Native American woman based on her bones.

Sonya Bradley went missing from Eddyville, Ky, which is where I used to live and did live when this happened. What is not mentioned in Charley is that she was involved with a man who was a convicted felon with a violent past and it has long been suspected that he had something to do with her disappearance. It was October and pretty chilly (I remember because I heard about the kids car wreck at the soccer game that night) so I don't know why she would have been wearing a bikini.

With that said, everything else looks promising (although I don't know her father's heritage, her mother does not look like her from what I remember). She does look very Indian and I had a good friend whose mother was full blooded Indian and she was 5'11" tall so it is possible that soemone of Indian heritage (or partial) could be quite tall.

I have always assumed that Sonya was buried somewhere around Lake Barkley or in the lake. Glasgow is about two hours away from Eddyville if I remember correctly - I guess it would not be out of the question for someone to take her that far to leave her.

I have a feeling this is Sonya. If I were a criminal I would go about that far to get rid of the evidence. 2 hours there and 2 hours back seems about the time to eddyville. Sorry to be a little blunt or morbid.

One possibility here is that the individual could have been a Melungeon. The Melungeons are white but they have an olive complexion, similar to someone that has a tan. A large number of the Melungeon population are in the Southeastern United States.

On the day that Sonya disappeared, was she last seen wearing a bikini?

Was she seen out in public wearing a bikini on that day, maybe at a beach somewhere along the Land of the Lakes outside of Eddyville?

To be honest, although it states on Charley that the boyfriend was the last one to have seen her, I do not remember if they ever said what she was wearing that day. It is not unusual to see women with their swimsuits around town with a coverup and shorts on - maybe she had her top on that day with something over it. The articles just state that a "string bikini type garment" was found with the remains. October is a little late to be swimming at the beach in near Eddyville because the lakes have been dropped to winter pool so the water is alot lower. If the boyfriend had a boat, they could have went out in it but I never heard anything about that.

Just a little update...

New developments have come to light in the case of skeletal remains found in August just off Louie B. Nunn Parkway near Beaver Creek bridge.

The remains are those of a Native American woman and had been on the side of the road from one to 15 years, according to a release by Kentucky State Police.

The remains were found Aug. 15 along the Louie B. Nunn Parkway after Deputy Mike Wood of the Barren County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a state contract worker.

There were more than 30 bones, but KSP investigators didn’t want to confirm anything about the remains until a forensic pathologist analyzed them. They were taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.

I am unsure of all the rules about mentioning names; however, I just wanted to let eveyone know that the person suspected in Sonya's disapperance has been arrested for killing another man in Murray, KY a couple of weeks ago...

The online forums actually mention that ths is the fourth person he has killed but, other than Sonya, I am unsure who else might be a victim.

This would be a stretch as Biloxi is far away and there is nothing that suggests her being in KY. But can someone take a look at Ronda? Her height is listed as 5'0 (or 60 inches) and her weight at 100 lbs, but I wonder if someone just threw in random numbers. Can someone blow up her picture? She is standing in front of a height chart, and I think it looks like she is much taller than 5', but not sure, because I can't blow it up.

If in fact she is taller, she may fit here too...age, height, and ancestry wise, though maybe not geographically.

Okay, I got it bigger, and CLEARLY, she is 5'8. so I'm going to ask NamUs to fix, but that puts her in the mix too, I guess. Some of the sloppy entries on stats frustrate me, since if you are searching women anywhere near 5'8" you will never find her that way.... :((

Yvonne Scot makes the most sense.

She is listed as the only ruleout on Namus.

Can they tell the shape of the teeth if the upper front teeth were lost postmortem like this UID?

Donjeta, you have the best questions on every thread....you never miss the finer points. I know it's off topic, but thanks for hanging around here....it wouldn't be the same without you!

:tyou:

Thanks :) Can't go wrong asking stupid questions, might even learn something!

I just found this article regarding this Jane Doe.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Human remains found about a year ago in Kentucky belonged to a woman of Native American descent who appears to have been scalped, state police said Tuesday.

Detective Chad Winn told The Associated Press that the case is being investigated as a possible hate crime. Forensic examiners found markings on the skull consistent with a scalping,

the woman was about 6 feet tall, was between 20 and 50 years old, and had been killed by a shotgun blast between one and 15 years ago.

I was just reading about this and came to post and CarlK beat me to it!

What a STRANGE case! And with her being so tall, you'd think she wouldn't be all that hard to identify!
