Not just high heels. From the picture I saw, I got the impression that they were four inch high needle-thin heels. Just the thing for hiking cross-country?

If she had walked to that pond, I think those heels would've come off at some point and they'd have been found before now.

IIRC, it was around 30-40 degrees that night & her coat was left in her mom’s car. She definitely looked very cold.
Not to mention what kind of person allows a woman to take off walking with no coat in the freezing cold. From a house out in the rural countryside 40 min from where her car is. I know there is no way to stop free will, but come on common sense has to kick in at some point doesn't it?

If that were me, I would have swiped a coat and a pair of shoes before leaving the house. But I don’t think it’s a likely scenario.

The same type of scum that would dump her body and lie.......

I HAVE taken off and run out from a place when it was freezing cold and I was improperly dressed. However, it was because I was running away from something-not because I just decided I wanted to leave. Even if she took off on her own and had an accident, I still have difficulty entertaining a scenario in which the people she was with are completely innocent. I believe something happened to her when she was with them.

Hypothetically, she could have borrowed shoes and a coat from the house she was at.

eta: And by "borrow," I mean grabbed something off the coat rack on the way out.

No not really. Sometimes it's hard to get ones significant other up and moving. Imagine a man you met in a bar!
Plus her mother was expecting her car to be returned AM!

I like Betsey too, especially her luggage & backpacks. I have at least a couple of most brands of handbags at all times & I’m constantly pricing them. I buy & resell new & used handbags. I just can’t seem to place this brand.
I know nothing about handbags.

I turned the photo upside down to look at the metal logo/snap clasp. Upside down it looks like 4 small circles, the top part mirroring the bottom part:

The purse is also unusual because the bottom edge is narrow, a point, instead of wide. When snapped shut, it would be very flat.

It almost looks like something old, from the 1950s or 1960s. It seems stiff while modern quilted purses are softer, flexible. I searched on retro and vintage to no avail. I think the purse may also be a cheap foreign (Chinese?) knockoff bag, so the snap clasp is just artwork, and may be gold-colored plastic and not even metal. The sort of bag available at a Walmart or Target or Payless?

It seems to me that SS and her mom are a bit on the financially challenged side. I don't think SS was financially free enough to buy designer bags at retail - but she may have been expert at second hand shops!

Good luck in your search. It's amazing how WS has an expert like you on just about everything.

Savannah lived in Richmond. To me, this looks exactly like the kind of purse that she could get from TJ Maxx-brand names at cheap(er) prices.

These kinds of purses are back in style again so while it may have a more vintage look, it's inline with what you'd find in stores today.

Well, if they got a tip to search the pond, that means someone *knows* she is there. So she didn’t get there by herself. Unless we are talking a “Stand by Me” situation.

I don't know if it was a tip that led them there or perhaps a possible rule out situation due to the last known location being the house nearby? If it was one of my family members missing, I would strongly advocate for that body of water to be searched/dragged whether through LE or hire a specialized group.
Stand By Me is in my top three faves. I suppose it could be a Ray Brower scene in that a random person(s) discovered something while out and about. MOO

Just this other picture that Richmond PD put out
These are the newer photos of SS that police released the other day showing her purse wide open. This image also shows that narrow edge bottom rather than a wide bottom.
