This is the first mention I've seen of the Moorish Science Temple of America. Anyone know more about them?

Never heard of the Moorish Temple, but it sounds similar to the Black Coptic church which was common in my area in the 60's. This religion was based on Ethiopian history. Followers learned Amharic ( an Ethiopian language). The religion never got much traction in NYC, but it is practiced today in Chicago. I think it is/was an attempt by some black people to shape an identity that was/is unique to their experience. I am all for people seeking to claim dignity in their lives. I just do not condone murdering police officers, ever. jmo

Long declared himself a sovereign citizen in records filed with the Jackson County Recorder of Deeds last year.

“No doubt at all,” said J.J. MacNab, an author who for two decades has been tracking anti-government extremists. “He’s 100 percent sovereign citizen.”

MacNab said he falls into the Moorish Sovereign category, more specifically the Washitaw Nation of Mu’urs.

This group believes that they are indigenous to the continent and therefore above all federal, state, and local laws,” said MacNab, who also is a fellow at George Washington University’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security. “These documents show Long’s attempt to separate his flesh and blood ‘indigenous’ self from his legal entity self.”

Sovereign citizens believe the government is corrupt and out of control and has no jurisdiction over them. Federal authorities consider the movement a domestic terror threat and it continues to swell, with violent incidents erupting on a regular basis.

Long filed the document with the Jackson County recorder in May 2015, saying he was with the United Washitaw de Dugdahmoundyah Mu’ur Nation, Mid-West Washita Tribes.

I am starting to beleive there is a lot of fantasy going on here!! Anyone heard when the stint on the dean lists happened - it would be interesting to see if that happened and under what name!!

When seeking a job - they tend not to hire someone who present themselves as Bob, and when their SSN is checked Bill comes back..................................

When they are talking about "he" whom are they talking about!!

Something is very cookey here imo..................

One wants to write a book under a different name, whatever (that to is ??) but

After completing an Associate’s degree in General Studies at Central Texas College, Cosmo then attended Clark Atlanta University to further his education. After a year and a half at Clark Atlanta as a dean’s list student, he had a spiritual revelation that resulted in him dropping out of college, selling his two cars, giving away all of his material possessions, packing two suitcases and journeying to Africa—his ancestral homeland.

These interesting versions of reality certainly resonate with some people and make some tremendously rich. Scientology. I know there is some planet stuff but too lazy to look it up.

Then there were those well to do people, that killed themselves. They were waiting for a space ship to take them away. You have
David Koresh proclaiming to be the sinful Jesus. I can go on and on.

Anway, it seems like some of these out there ideas slack off. There is a lull. I wonder if some of these extremeists will fade away soon?

There are those in the UP of Michigan who have all kinds of supplies to protect from the coming race war--'blacks coming,up from Detroit to take everything from everyone.

Then there are those who have huge troves of weapons to protect against the evil govt.

Obviously, there are lots of needy people, but not too many go off the deep end and start killing. It is hard to discern fromtheir rhetoric if they are going to go into a rage.

the "Waldo Heights" apartments address is the last known address of his family (the shooters family)

I wonder if the other murders of police officers played a part in today's gruesome killings ?

'Nope, because he knew that the FBI Counter Terrorism Unit special agents would be knocking on the doors of any group or organization that he has proclaimed allegiance to, or been affiliated with, imo..

A "former" house is unique no??

My guess is that may be his parents' house and he was living in an apartment.

"Former" maybe meaning "former address."

I didn't track that aspect very much today.

Which, of course, they will be doing anyway.

I'm edgy as ****

This is not a nice time to be newly widowed. I can't imagine what it must be like for all those who lost loved ones to terrors attacks and violence. I can't imagine what it must be like to be a spouse of a police officer in the US.

Sorry for the slight O/T but I realised I hadn't eaten because I had been following here all day. And went for a walk to get food. I was constantly looking over my shoulder and at faces of people I walked past. Even in my relatively quiet little hamlet I'm spooked and jumpy.

I'm a 'recovering' (work in progress) agoraphobic. Never has shutting myself away again felt more and more appealing, but I promised myself, and for my late DH I would not. Ugh
I've been working all day and just catching up here, but your post tugged at my heart deeply.

I cannot imagine what it feels like to lose ones spouse. I cannot imagine feeling that loss in these uncertain times. I wish for you peace and healing. Please don't let your fear get the best of you or the bad guys will win. I am sending you uplifting thoughts, strength, and well wishes Skibaboo.

(Btw, for some reason your WS name Skibaboo always makes me smile. I dunno why..)

Totally disagree. Earlier mods said keep it out until MSM made it clear there was a connection to officer related shootings.

It is all over MSM that he clearly declared that he had instsnse feelings about Sterling murder, and that people need to fight back.

If killing cops is not fighting back.....................its the core of the event IMO

The initiation of todays tragic events, any thread related to this , IMO , not discussing the role of unarmed AA being shot by LE in the past several weeks is not addressing what happened today, moo

That's like if the Secret Service arrested someone for trying to harm the president and he said he was mad about Benghazi - okay fine. But then you find out that the person was a longtime white supremacist. Still think it was really all about Benghazi? Or was Benghazi just the excuse he used to do what he wanted to do anyway?

These officers didn't earn what happened to them. They did not deserve this. Even when all of the facts come out on some of the cases that have been in the news lately, even if those facts show that BOTH of the two most recent cases the officers were 100% guilty, that will still not justify the killing of these innocent men. Not one iota. Nor the ones in Dallas or elsewhere. The only cause here is an ideology of hate, and of an intentional devaluing and dehumanizing of people in LE.

MANY people in minority communities feel VERY strongly about some of the most recent cases. They are not going around executing police officers because they know what I've just said to be true - they can't justify violence against innocent people. In almost every single case where a young black man has died, their families, who have actually lost someone they loved - have completely disavowed the violence. They do not want this. They do not accept that this represents any sort of justice for their loved ones. They see hate for what it is. Anyone who is claiming they are killing innocent cops to get 'justice' for young black men is doing that in direct opposition to the wishes of these men's own families.

Authorities have opened up the area in Baton Rouge where three law enforcement officers were shot and killed.
The ground behind the convenience store and a nearby beauty supply store was still wet Sunday, apparently from being washed down by authorities following the investigation.
An Associated Press photographer on the scene could see what appeared to be two large blood stains on the concrete pavement on either end of the wall of the beauty supply store.
What appeared to be three bullet holes pierced the back of the corrugated aluminum wall of the beauty supply store on one end while two bullet holes could be seen entering the wall at the other end of the building.
Three officers were killed in the Sunday morning shooting.
