I've been up all night, and I've only read a few pages of this thread. First, my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends. Secondly, to my knowledge, we don't have a mafia in Bay St. Louis, not even in relationship to the casinos. I could be wrong considering I moved east to Goula seven years ago. Things could be different now.

I was wondering what people thought of this
https://www.facebook.com/groups/373796409350809/, mainly the post from Kerry Wolf. I've got friends that live close to Uptown so I'll be calling and asking about the talk later. Anyone think there is truth to the talk?

Organized crime goes far beyond the traditional mafia. Today, there are Mexican drug cartels in many cities, street gangs, irish mobsters, Italian mobsters and regular old white dudes cooking the books at Enron, etc. There might not be much of it in Bay St. Louis. But, in New Orleans, organized crime has deep roots. Check out this link for some history.

This is Jaren's (pronounced J(air) en) adopted mother. First, thanks to everyone for your comments and points of view. Yes, Jaren did have a hard life, but dealt with it with dignity and strength. She came into my life when she was 16 and lists me as her mother, and I'm very proud of that REGARDLESS of her lifestyle. She has a mother, a father, a brother and a little girl and a boyfriend who loved her very much. Her boyfriend IS NOT considered a suspect in her death. Also my children considered her their sister and that will never change. This is a public forum and I understand completely that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But some of the things I have been reading for the past few days is just plain ****. No one on this forum knows anything about the what NOPD Homicide Division nor the Hancock Cty Sheriff's Office is doing to bring this murderer to justice. And yes, she was a stripper and yes Hillary was one of her friends who was found dead two months ago and yes they did work at the same club. Remember, it's an ongoing investigation and there's a lot that her family knows but the news reports don't. I can't change anyone's opinion but I can ask that you be more respectful of the things you say about her. Someone else may stumble across this website and she the hurtful things that I saw. Remember, she does have a daughter that one day will be able to google her mother and surely don't want to answer that child's questions as to why people could say those things about her mother! All I'm asking for is respect for my beautiful angel, Jaren

In some of the new articles there is some mention of her clothing being found too.
Wonder what others' thoughts are on this? It sticks out like a sore thumb to me.
I'm not trying to be gruesome, but it seems that body parts and clothing wouldn't be able to stay together for long in the water. But they were also found (presumably) nearby? That to me, makes it even more likely that the body was disposed of nearby where it was found.
Sorry if I'm not making much since, this case is wearing me down but I think Jaren deserves at least a few weary souls.

My deepest condolences to Jaren's family and friends.

Sweetly1 I am sorry for yours and your family's loss. I do hope the police find this person quickly and bring this person to justice before he can hurt anyone else. From the pictures she was a beautiful soul and I am glad she had people in her life who loved her unconditionally. Her profession or her choices do not matter to me. Their only benefit to discussion is some lifestyle choices brings more risk and exposure to more people and sometimes more unsavory characters. I cannot imagine your pain and hope you are able to find peace.

Sweetly1, again I will say I am sorry and steaming mad about this. No matter her background she never ever deserved this. NO ONE DOES!! I am glad there is media attention to her case, and unfortunately that sometimes brings about wild speculation and details into one's life that is deconstructed to find the truth. That is all we here want, to find the truth. Love, hugs and prayers to your family. I will tread lightly with respect to you.

Just had to add....that group(s) (Irish organized crime) has been around for a while and possibly has a longer history in the US than Sicilian organized crime as the Irish came to the US en masse before the Italians/Sicilians. Every ethnic group has or has had an organized crime group(s) that may or may not still be active today, not just the Italians/Sicilians - they just get the good movies and tv shows made about them. There have also been Jewish organized crime rings, Russian organized crime rings, etc throughout US/World history. Organized crime isn't limited to one group (which I think is the point you were trying to make). And yes, NOLA has had long-running links to organized crime.

Anyone know anything about the murder of the prostitute Destiney in a
warehouse mentioned by commenter in this link? Commenter wondered if it could be tied to Jaren' s killer.

I think maybe Destiny could be the stage name used by Bourbon Street dancer Angela Erin Ball, who was found dead in an abandoned building on Canal Street in NOLA. Her death was ruled a homicide and is listed as a cold case at nola.gov (you can find it by googling).

I'd hate to think these two deaths are related and we have a guy(s) preying on dancers in NOLA.

Here's a nola.com link about her:
http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2009/08/stripper_came_to_new_orleans_f.html

I'd like to add I cannot find anything to suggest Jaren's co-worker Hillary Moulder, who died in March, was killed. I cannot find her COD at all. And the fact that she was found in her own apartment makes it seem like it's unrelated, to me, anyway. Weird that Hillary was from Bay St. Louis (per BSL newspaper's obit) and Jaren's remains washed ashore there. But I'm thinking that was a coincidence.

GULP! How sad!

Speaking of organized crime, ahem, do a little research into property/business/club owners on/around Bourbon St. and it almost becomes obvious why so many of the crimes against these young women, and men, are unsolved. Just saying....imho.

So very sorry sweetly1, thank you for sharing who Jaren was with us.

I have lots of reading to do today to catch up, but just wanted to post this latest news clip from FOX...they are still reporting that BF was last to see her when she left to get a cab! What is the matter with the media...they can't get anything straight!

Lockhart was last seen late Tuesday night taking a cab from a motel in New Orleans to the Bourbon St. nightclub where she worked. Her boyfriend called police when he was unable to contact her and grew concerned.

Good luck finding anywhere in NYC for $1,500 a month.

And while housing in New Orleans isn't as cheap as it is in most other places, $1,500 a month for that particular piece of housing is steep. The hotel owners should be ashamed of themselves.

That's what I was saying - a flea bag roach motel $1,500 is criminal! You may pay that in NYC for a similar nasty dwelling - going up considerably from there if you want a semi-inhabitable place, which this hotel was clearly not!

Hello, sweetly1

Please accept my condolences on your loss. I can't pretend to understand how horrific this past week has been for you.

I hope you and your family find comfort in each other and the child Jaren left behind.

Peace be with you

Please do not post this in the media thread. And do not quote from it. That goes for everyone. I'm still reading, but this appears to be a blog. If you quote from it, and I pull the link, I'll also have to pull your posts.

ETA: After further review, the link is not allowed. Sorry, resqx.

I was wondering what people thought of this
https://www.facebook.com/groups/373796409350809/, mainly the post from Kerry Wolf. I've got friends that live close to Uptown so I'll be calling and asking about the talk later. Anyone think there is truth to the talk?

I live Uptown, and there's no one missing here, much less "young, easily persuaded blondes," as KW states. There were two random assaults on women earlier in the year, but the attacker was arrested and is currently incarcerated:

http://uptownmessenger.com/2012/04/...ark-jogger-to-undergo-psychiatric-evaluation/

In any case, suggesting that women dye their hair some random color to discourage attackers smacks of hysteria. It's a pointless and naive action at best, and damaging to believe at worst. Despite rumors to the contrary, Ted Bundy and David Berkowitz didn't turn their noses up at victims who lacked their supposedly-preferred hairstyles.

Though if women really want to avoid situations that might result in death, there are a few things they can do:

1. Pick a non-violent romantic partner.
2. Don't live a high-risk lifestyle or engage in high-risk behavior.
3. Don't spend time with people who live high-risk lifestyles or engage in high-risk behavior.

Those options aren't as dramatic as a salon makeover, but at least they provide some actual security instead of a false sense of it. And for the record, I'm a blonde.
