True. Think of us as public servants. We're asking the good questions.
It's up to the people in authority to consider all the angles and solve the case. I hope, but am not confident (ie Casey Anthony) that they do.

Can you think of something pithy for 'maybe'?

If maybe were a _______, we'd all be _______.

If maybe were a baby, we'd all be...pregnant :floorlaugh:

Tommy Longo hasn't been mayor for several years - article is old. No way it's 12,000 ft long - it's approx 1000 ft over water. Area isn't as secluded as many other places on Waveland coast. People fish there most nights. I would say that it would be unusual for the pier to be completely empty. But, when you're night fishing, you usually have a cooler that you're dragging/rolling to end of pier. At the end are the "shark fishermen". Often people are dumping large fish they've caught back into the Gulf so if no one is else there, it would be easy and not usual to drop contents of cooler off the end. We've seen some very large stingrays (10+ ft) under the lights - pier is lit for night fishing, attracting the fish to area.

Everyone talking about dropping contents off beaches in the area, especially around Long Beach and the Pass - it's just not feasible. Beaches are wide in Waveland and BSL and even wider in the Pass and LB. You would have to walk out 40-50 yards in Waveland and at night, you'd walk forever to even get to water above your ankles. That's why people are out floundering most nights.

Much more likely that Jaren was dropped off end of G-L Pier, concrete pier in Clermont Harbor (think it's called Am. Legion Pier), around Silver Slipper or back by Bordages (Lakeshore). Or, around marsh areas by piers and across from Bucaneer Park (or back part of Bucaneer which has water that eads out to Gulf).

There's also area where Beach Blvd ends by Hollywood Casino. So many secluded areas but beaches aren't a possibility - no water close by at night and too much activity during the day.

The article is from 2010, after the pier was built. This was when they had the ribbon cutting for the new Garfield Ladner pier, so Tommy Longo was Mayor when this took place.

WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - A multi-million dollar pier in Waveland is now open to the public. The ribbon cutting and opening ceremony for the Garfield Ladner Memorial Pier was held Saturday. Mayor Tommy Longo said this is a milestone in Waveland's recovery.

As the ribbon is cut children anxiously hold their fishing poles waiting to be the first to reel in a big catch.

Mayor Longo said, "This is a tremendous milestone in the rebuilding effort in the heart and soul of the community."

The 12,000 foot pier is one of the longest on the gulf coast and is named after a former mayor who served the community for more than 30 years.

I'm so glad there is new info being broadcasted. LE stated that the tips coming in were less frequent (in so many words). Keeping it in the media is what is going to keep this case moving forward IMO.

Updates are coming from Biloxi and Bay St. Louis and for some reason Baton Rouge, but new info in NOLA is scarce in spite of the fact that the last place Jaren was seen, as far as we know, was the French Quarter and the last two seen with her were known to have worked in the FQ.

With Hancock County MS officials still leading the investigation, does that mean MS is the presumed location of the murder? If it is possible that she was murdered in LA, wouldn't there be more info coming from the NOPD or St. Tammany PD? I'm just surprised with Jaren's connection to Hillary Moulder, one of our local investigative reporters hasn't started his own report on these two suspicious deaths.

Add Brandon Lavergne's visit to a local Jefferson Parish hospital less than 24 hours after he murdered Mickey Shunick, and someone in charge should really look into the RSO program in LA because it is obviously not working!

I watched the news out of NOLA also and they had no new reports.
I vote Lee Zurick for the investigative reporting. Lol

I think I need some tech help. Great pic of the pier but it is so big it is squeazing the posts on this page. Do I have to change a setting on my tablet to view posts in normal size?

No, you just have to alert for mod to come fix the margins. LOL

No big deal, Vann. It happens all the time. Images wider than 800px will blow the margins. The optimum size for viewing in this format is about 640px. Images wider than 800 have to be uploaded as attachments by clicking the paper clip icon in the edit box. You can upload directly from your computer, or from a url. The pier photo was too large to upload, so I saved it to my computer and resized it.

WGNO is doing a pretty good job of keeping the case in the news. They did another piece tonight.

This really gripes me. The fact that film companies and Hollywood types have limited cooperation with police investigations just kills me. Although I am grateful that they pick our city and our state to film in, they have such a sense of entitlement when they block off streets or inconvenience people. The fact that are resistant to giving up unedited footage just speaks to the kind of money-grubbing that they're all about. It stinks. esp. because in this case we are talking about someone's life here. Screw your copyright laws.

Who doesn't want to give up footage? Something we should know? I'm confused. :waitasec:

Thanks is not enough. Not the best way for a new network show to make BFFs forever with their core audience. ABC :slap:

Given the propensity of network news and their shameless self promotion tactics, I'm a little surprised ABC hasn't done anything to publicize this case because at the same time it would promote Final Witness. It would seem Good Morning America at the very least could mention the story and even include "as seen on FW..." "life imitating tv" etc angles. GMA has Nancy Grace and Dan Abrams on talking about homicide or missing persons cases a couple of times a week at least. Seems like it would be a natural fit. It is curious why ABC hasn’t and FW won’t turn over the unedited footage.

On a side note, I watched FW again last night and watching MAS made my skin crawl.

I would think that anyone who works or spends time in the Quarter is aware of the cameras in the clubs and on the street. TS worked as a bouncer at a couple of the clubs, so he definitely knew about the surveillance cameras.

:welcome5:

Thank you for clarifing.

And, thanks to you, SmoothOperator and to all who have been welcoming. :)

I'm reading the Times-Picayune with my first cup of coffee and I don't see anything about Brandon Lavergne being indicted in the death of Mickey Shunick and another unsolved death, which should have made the front page IMO, and there isn't anything about Jaren's phone records, unless it is hidden on a page with a bunch of ads. WWLTV did report on both on this morning's news. If Jaren's case is somehow connected to the FQ/MS Coast escort business, I can understand there might be some local pressure to keep it hush, but there should definitely be more focus on how both of these murders involve RSOs who were able to manipulate the program.

Yeah, I read the someTimes Picayune this morning too and was disappointed. Heard a rumor (or maybe just a wish or desire) that WWL take over in some capacity as a daily news provider after TP does their three day a week thing. Hope that happens as I think they more reliably cover what the city is interested in.

I posted a comment on ABC Final Witness website under the Graveyard Love comment section asking them why they haven't turned over the footage. I think public pressure and exposure might have an influence on them. It's a small step and not very visible but doing what i can...
