Details of Disappearance
Vaughn was last seen at her home in Natchitoches, Louisiana on November 3, 1993. She left driving a white 1978 Honda with California license plates. She has never been heard from again.

On multiple occasions prior to her disappearance, Vaughn threatened to drive her car into the Cain River so her body would never be found. Authorities searched a thirty-mile section of the river 2007, but didn't find Vaughn's vehicle or her body. Few details are available in her case.

Remains of Louisiana woman missing since 1993 believed to have been found

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office believes they found the body of Kara Vaughn, who was reported missing by her family back on November 3, 1993. She was 40 years old at that time.

NPSO received information back then that she may have driven her vehicle off into the Cane River, which is south of Natchitoches. The investigation unit was unsure about the exact location, and she was unable to be located.

However, a few weeks ago, the sheriff’s office received information from a fisherman that a vehicle was spotted in the river.

On March 12, 2021, the sheriff’s office dive team searched the river, and by March 15, the dive team, along with the Calcasieu Parish marine unit, found a Honda Civic, the same vehicle that Vaughn was reported missing in.

The car and the remains were found in the Cane River.

According to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Tony Moran, dive teams from NPSO and Calcaciseu Parish removed the remains believed to be those of 40-year-old Kara Vaughn just before 10 a.m. Monday from the white 1978 Honda Civic she was driving at the time of her disappearance in November 1993.

Moran says the break in the case came about three weeks ago when a fisherman reported seeing what appeared to be a vehicle submerged in 10 to 12 feet of water in the river north of the Shell Beach Bridge.

The remains will be taken to the LSU FACES Lab in Baton Rouge for DNA analysis and the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct a dental records comparison to confirm they belong to Vaughn. Moran said divers also found Vaughn’s identification and other documents that belonged to her in the car, which was found with the windows rolled up.

Also amazing :

A laminated identification card and photograph of Kara Vaughn and other documents were found inside the vehicle in surprisingly legible condition.
Divers then began the process of methodically extracting the remains from the vehicle with dignity bringing them to shore for evidence collection.
