I know. And it annoys the piss out of me. Most LE never want PI's involved in a case either. Precisely the reason why some cases never get solved IMO. Because LE doesn't want anyone helping. If they don't find the perp...oh well. Stick it in the cold case files. It's off to write more traffic tickets and investigate hundreds of other crimes. I just think its stupid. LE doesn't have the resources to focus 100% on a case like this.

I look at it like this. LE is here for general law enforcement, to product the public and investigate all crimes to a certain extent before moving on to one of the other hundreds of crimes they deal with.

LE is like the general practioner/walk in clinic of investigations. And PI's/organizations like TES are the out of town specialists. Who do you really want to go see when you have cancer? University Medical Clinic or M.D. Anderson in Texas?

Luv your way of thinking A.C.I., and truly apreciate your diligence in this case. Fortunately, things they are a changin.. LEAs are simply overwhelmed and many are beginning to utilize these available/valuable resources such as TES, PIs, & the media, due to this and budgetary constraints, etc.

My neighboring houses are within 10 feet of my house. I have an 8 ft wooden privacy fence. If I were the perp I would go to local home depot on Saturday morning for concrete mix and mulch. My neighbors would not think it out of the ordinary for me to haul that into my back yard and then hear music and shoveling all day long. They couldn't see me burying a body in broad daylight and probably wouldn't read too much into my newly paved garden path. People in older neighborhoods with a bit of cash are always working on home improvement projects. I would also feel better knowing I had control over who goes in and out of my yard. Hunters won't stumble across the body which probably has my DNA on it.

It is constant home improvements in the brashear, st. john, dunreath area, it's crazy!

I don't know... The key is why she wasn't on the 216 footage, or maybe if somehow she WAS, and this was discovered AFTER the early press conference, and LE just decided to keep ot to their vest. I don't think we've been given all the cam info that LE has, and I'm not willing to rule out that she made it farther down St. Landry than people think.

There's something going on here that I can't put my finger on... and it's the key, of course to what her actual route was.

If the truck had a large sticker on the rear window (as some have guessed from the LCG shot), the camera at 216 would catch it b/c of the angle as it went past it. Maybe LE doesn't want it disclosed that they have a good ID point on the truck so that the perp doesn't shed it?

LE said that they thought the bike was "put" into the water, not dropped, because there is no where for a vehicle to pull over off the road on that bridge and get out and toss the bike over.

I didn't mean dropped from the bridge. I mean dropped from the edge. Anybody that's been there knows there is a large drop from the bank to the water. I'll edit my comment because it is confusing.

Maybe the old perv later regretted letting that girl go....and moved on to bigger "thrills".

Maybe. But I would think he would have trolled for a victim in a different town, since he knew he had picked up and released another girl recently, and shared his secret with her. If it was the same guy, wouldn't he change trucks or towns, before looking for a victim to kill?

but if this was a trial run, why would he let an eye witness out of his truck, and then tell her he liked to troll the streets for pretty girls?

I think he is just an old perv looking for trouble and willing to pay for it. But he does not seem aggressive enough or violent enough to kidnap and rape and kill a young student, imo.

Why would he even think to pick up a young woman bicyclist, and solicit her for prostitution?

I find it outrageous that people are giving a pass to this guy.

Actually, in my eyes, this old perv in the pick up is one of the ONLY people I would clear of this crime. He had a pretty girl in his truck and he let her out, safely.

It's harder to pull something like that off during the day, I would think. Maybe this time around he was more confident... liquid courage? Less onlookers? An injured target?

With absoluetly no disrepect, I disagree. If the man had offered her a ride hoping he would "score", but maybe too many people were around that saw her get into his vehicle, so he chickened out on taking things any further than just asking for sex.

What I am trying to say, is I would not doubt for one minute that this type of "perp" would keep trying + trying until the perfect situation came along where he would take matters into a much worse forcible situation, rather than using his normal "ruse" of offering rides and trying to buy sex.

Eh... he could be a bit "off," both mentally and socially.

Not that I think it was dropped, but isn't there a 8-10 ft shoulder on that bridge?

I had thought the same thing!

According to the mother of the victim, just as she was getting out of his truck, she mentioned to him that she was broke and needed a job. So he reportedly offered her 80 bucks for sex. MAYBE he thought she was hinting something and
offered her $ because he thought she MIGHT be a working girl. She did get into a strangers truck so maybe he wondered if she was working at the time.

I am giving 'a pass' only in the sense that I don't believe he is the most likely suspect in Mickey's case. I don't think this old guy is aggressive or violent enough to have kidnapped and killed her. JMO

Ooooh...not tsk tsk here, buut my spouse has a med practice here. That being said, & since I don't use my name, if I needed an oncologist I would go to MD Anderson. It's all in the volume you see..if I were in an accident in nola, I'd want the LSU Charity. You'd want a major trauma center, b/c they see more cases than a teeny town hospital. Not just MO

Thats what I meant. If it was something serious (ie cancer) you wouldn't want to go to the free clinic. You'd be going to the specialist. And this Mickey Shunick case (and any other missing person case for that matter) is serious. It requires Specialists (TES, PI's, Batman). Where as any other incident (regular crimes) are perfectly ok to be treated by the regular docs at UMC (the police)

In a case like this, its Dr. Cliff Huxtable's basement practice versus mother **** Dr. Gregory House! ;)

Ok, all done with the doctor analogies :D

Actually that's what was bothering me so much the other night, so I asked ACI to go out to the bus parking lot straight across from Cherry, that would have been a perfect place to bump and run. What do you think?

If she made it to the bus parking lot, she would have lost the truck by then b/c it was after the road is blocked for traffic (at least the lot I'm thinking of).

I checked University where Cherry intersects and there is Rayne St. Bank on the corner of Lafayette and University. It has cameras in the drive thru and another on the left front of the building. But the angles don't look like they could capture vehicles on University. But maybe they might or maybe they have another camera I didn't see.

Another route she could have tried to lose him would be down Dunreath at St. Mary. The road ends but a bike could get around it. But unlikely b/c if that was her plan she could have gone to the end of Brashear and jumped the curb. She wouldn't have to stop to do it. She could take the sidewalk and that goes past it.

Did this girl report the incident to LE?

No. Then when the MS case hit news 2 months later, she apparently tried to call the tip line, couldn't get through, and called KATC.

Curious how the use of this stuff causes others to bite people in the face, like a dog!?

didnt some college student just cut himself open and start taking out his insides?
My son showed me that one!

IDK. The major thing that makes me think it probably isn't this guy is the time. The other girl was picked up at 2 in the afternoon. Unless he went home and planned out an entirely different scenario, maybe hoping to encounter an intoxicated girl walking/riding a bike at closing time?
