I love this Judge. He clearly wants this jury to find both MS & DM guilty of M1.

JMO

Right? So great.

You make a good point about Wm. being in the house, but I read that he had such a drinking problem that he was often in a drunken almost unconscious, or unconscious state. DM may have checked, and known that was the case. I have never watched a snuff film, nor do I want to, but I am speculating that they could also be films of something quick and quiet, like strangulation during sex, which would mean that MS may have filmed it, while DM killed her. They both really liked videos, and made several others that we have seen. I think they may have wanted a trophy copy of their first murder. In fact, DM might have just driven to the Camp and showed CN the film, and not risked driving the body around anymore than he had to. As you say, this is all just me imagining things, but I think these 2 are likely to have carried out such acts. IMO

Strangulation is not quiet. It is difficult, takes some strength and time, and usually there is a lot of thrashing etc.

Still makes no sense that he would feel the need to hide Laura from MS, then an hour later bring MS all in, whether she was deceased at that point or not. MOO

I think it was more hide MS from LB. Sneak attack.

“THRILL-SEEKING” MOTIVE — The Crown, who alleged Babcock was killed for being the odd woman out in a love triangle with Millard and his girlfriend, wanted to introduce a second motivation for Babcock’s killing — a “thrill seeking” motive that detailed Millard and Smich’s lengthy criminal behaviour leading up to the young woman’s disappearance and after. Prosecutors wanted to bring up alleged incidents over a two-and-a-half year period, dubbed “missions” by Millard, that included stealing plants, trailers, trafficking drugs and smuggling drugs into the country. Justice Michael Code, who presided over the trial, deemed it too prejudicial to the accused and ruled out anything referring to the pair’s “broader criminal conspiracy” that the two discussed at length in text messages.

Too bad.

That's an interesting theory, and knowing how sick and twisted DM is, it is very plausible. Except for the fact that there were possibly several people in the house at the time (MM was there, WM may have been there). If they took that opportunity to hurt her (I hope they didn't), then is there not a risk of someone who isn't in on the plan hearing the screaming? I think DM did it quick, and I think MS helped clean up afterwards. Depending on how they did it, there may have been a lot of mess to clean up.

Or perhaps they drugged her immediately, did some things to her, then killed her later in the night. I think that would be more plausible than hurting her while she was still conscious.
Now this might be possible, maybe didn't kill till early morning after vaping texts...

There was evidence of 16 prior "missions" carried out by the two men and their motley crew of hangers-on.

From May 2010 to January 2013, there was a spree of theft, mischief, arson, drug trafficking, robbery, among others — and the Crown wanted it all before the jury.

Proof, the prosecution argued, of a steady escalation of criminal activity and Millard's personality as a ringleader and thrill seeker.

But ultimately the so-called missions were not talked about in the courtroom. The judge ruled they didn't count because none of them resulted in criminal charges or convictions.

If they’d looked into Millard, they would have discovered that despite his privileged upbringing as the wealthy heir to a Canadian aviation dynasty, he had a history of running afoul of the law. In 2010, it ranged from the petty — he and Smich hurling a pumpkin from a moving car on a highway during Halloween — to the more serious: Lighting two cars on fire, and allegedly robbing a convenience store.

DM wanted to pimp LB, but she went into the business without him. Hm. Also, that text from DM to MS, “I’m down to merk people if it’s a big enough payoff” pretty much confirms what their true plans were. I wonder why that text was disallowed?

Also redacted was a text Millard sent Jan. 18, 2013 to a cousin inquiring about what he’d been up to. “Smuggling drugs killing hookers,” was his reply. Babcock had been working as an escort before she went missing.

omg
Demon and Satan – dman and say10
now their names make sense.

Before his arrest in the Bosma murder, Smich had told his girlfriend “it wasn’t the first time” that they’d burned a body and “it wasn’t the only body that they burned.”

There you have it...

I feel dopey that I never read "Dman and Say10" as Demon and Satan!!!!

So he wanted to pimp her, she refused? So he mad a plan to kill her instead.

Why is the judge saying things about the relationship between MS and DM? He is also saying that it was only after the angry text messages between CN and Laura that DM said he wanted to hurt Laura.
Is the judge giving his opinion about the accused?

He is expressing the view of the Crown. He will also express the view of the accused.

No matter how stupid the pet cremation business was, Millard told that to his IT buddy who later related the story to Millards uncle. That is solid evidence that Millard was floating this story to at least some people. We really don't have any evidence to support a theory that Millard confided to Smich that the incinerator was for humans, so technically the comments from Smich could go either way. Does he look happy in front of that machine? Sure he does, but it was just a dead body at that point and we don't know what Millard had promised him for his participation. Recording equipment? Cadillac? So is he smiling because he loves burning bodies or is he smiling because he just hit pay dirt?

It is good to read opposing viewpoints to my own, and I appreciate that you take the time to express them. However, “just a dead body”???? That ANYONE could remotely feel that way about participating in cremation of what was previously a living soul, animal or human, automatically shows to me that they are grotesquely involved from beginning to end.

I am having a difficult time fully expressing myself here. Sorry. I find it to be outrageous that anyone could possibly think of Laura or anyone as “just a dead body” ... what is our world coming to?

Total bullkrap. What kind of "pay-off" did he get out of Laura and Tim? Under 30K combined? Just another transparent attempt at rationalizing his desire to kill. He had all he needed to live a relatively luxurious life.

Never ceases to amaze me how sick fantasies can prevail over rational thinking.

Apparently she had 3K on her, and she left 1K of that behind at her parents home- IMHO, DM added that to his wallet. Money for propane, gas and more bullets. MOO

Hindsight my friend. Whether I believe him or not, its obvious that the people he told at the time did. It is plausible that Smich could have thought the machine was for animals until Millard confided that he killed Babcock and that he needed Smich's help to dispose of her. This could have been Millards way of edging Smich in to the Murder game. I'm sure he had no problems talking MS into the TB plan after the LB crime.

Re “it’s obvious that the people he told at the time did” ...

Is it obvious, though? Or did they purposefully have blinders on?

I wonder if this was part of the haul that MS referred to?
