Lawyer Of The Day: Mr. Baez

So I had to click on his website and what a hypocrite! He was questioning the "cache" analysis guy as to the website of his company saying he was a witness for this case when JB has a big photo if him on Larry King discussing this exact case. Ugh makes me I'll he jus seems so slimy

JB is clueless, but he tries to hide it when he questions the SA's expert witnesses. He also lacks the ability needed to defend himself, and will be blaming others when he loses this case. Fortunately he sure isn't shy of cameras and the opportunity to perform his puffed peacock strut. Hope this is the end of his career.

He has the same delivery for every cross.

BAEZ: "YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IF YOU ARE A CHEMIST DO YOU?"
WITNESS: "huh?"
BAEZ: "YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IF YOU COMMITTED SUICIDE LAST YEAR DO YOU?"

BAEZ: "ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL THIS JURY (point to them lovingly) THAT THIS WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE DUCT TAPE WAS ALL OVER HER HEAD, SHE WAS WRAPPED IN A PLASTIC BAG, TOSSED IN THE WOODS, SHE DECAYED AND THEN WAS PARTIALLY EATEN BY ANIMALS?"

BAEZ: "OK THEN! I HAVE NOTHING FURTHER YOUR HONOR, THE STATE RESTS!"
HHJP: "YOU ARE THE DEFENSE"

In May of 2009 the Orlando Sentinel did a scathing 2 part expose' on Baez which is no longer in their archives. Baez had a fit and claimed they were prejudiced against Hispanic Lawyers!

He is a Bar member in good standing, his office spokeswoman reminded the Orlando Sentinel in a prepared statement. She also questioned the motives behind the newspaper story.

"Based on your questions and actions," she wrote, "this profile you are writing has nothing to do with Jose Baez's representation of Casey Anthony and appears to be a sensationalist persecution of a Hispanic lawyer who has been targeted by a newspaper lucky to find itself at the center of a national story."


I wonder how lucky he's feeling right about now?

I wonder since Jose Biaz opened the door by asking Dr. Haskell how much he had been paid by the state and he appears to be going down the road of "Sad Panda" look at us we have and indigent client and can't afford all of these high profile experts; can the state then bring out the fact of all of the high profile experts who have passed through the swinging doors of the defense, ie: LKB, AL, HL..etc?

I don't think this is funny, really. True, yes, but frightening. Every accused person deserves the right to a fair trial with the best possible defense. I believe ICA is guilty of pre-meditated murder, and IMO even the best defense lawyer around would not be able to get the jury to find her not guilty. But Jose Baez is incompetent, to the point that it hurts our system of justice. And so, like so many others have said, ICA will probably be able to get a new trial based on the poor defense.

Definitely not a funny event.. However this defendant chose him on purpose and as she said she had an additional 3 verification's from other inmates and she could have changed all along as her family implored her to do. She did not, this is who she wanted to have and she got him. I do think he is doing the best he can with what he has to work with, and with the limited experience that he has. He has 4 seasoned Attorney's with him and he still chooses to lead this team.

Even funnier is that his home page is the only page you can view. Every single link on his site is broken. You would think that if you were the primary defense attorney in the biggest trial in the country, you would make sure your website worked.

Thing is,ICA has 5 attorney's ,as HHJP pointed out in court the other day.

Every time I think about this I have the same reflex reaction - you know the one where you automatically tilt your head in puzzlement, have an ever so slight smile on one corner of your mouth, take a moderately deep breath and blow it out through pursed lips, while executing the mandatory rolling of the eyes, as you slowly shake your head in disbelief (and it is sometimes accompanied by the scratching of the head :waitasec... it's the same reaction I have when I see anyone who has just embarrassed themselves (but doesn't know it) or is about to do something really stupid (and doesn't realize it yet)

I guess I can see one over confident/under competent lawyer coming up with the strategy given in the opening statement or making the blunders we have seen in this case. But a whole team of them? How can it be that the DT and those who once were part of the DT (or consultants) are the only ones that don't see how absurd this defense is? It isn't just JB and I just can't see how these other attorneys can be involved in or associated with what appears to me to be a big embarrassment.

It's my understanding that at least in the state of FL, an attorney must meet special qualifications in order to qualify to defend a DP case. I can't imagine how JB would meet these specifics. Perhaps only one of the team needs to meet these requirements. (Posted question in verified attorneys thread as well.)

Who wants to bet on Monday we get another "Motion for Mistrial" because "somebody wrote a disparaging article about me over the weekend, and people were making fun of me", is what Jose will say??? IMO, MOO, etc
