He wrote "Manic Monday"! Didn't know that, another great song.

And Sinéad O'Connor's great single, "Nothing Compares 2 U":

Yeah, the term gets overused -- but Prince really was a genius.

A very sad day.

R.I.P. Prince, a true musical genius. :rose:

Wow.....just wow! May he rest in peace. 57!!! Gosh - way too young, way too young. Needless to say, I am shocked at his early passing.

I don't know what his cause of death will turn out to be, but I just had a conversation with a good friend of mine who is 53. She has been sick for 3+ weeks now with a cough. Last time we talked by phone I said to her "You're still sick" and she answered "Yeah, I just can't seem to shake this." I gave her a speech about once you are over 50 you just cannot count on your body bouncing back and shaking things off like it used to. You need to go to the doctor. I know I probably insulted her somewhat by implying to her that 53 is "old(er)". But it is the truth.

Prince was supposedly in the hospital (?) on April 15 when his plane had to make an unscheduled landing due to his illness which was described by "his people" as the flu. And he played a concert that night. So he had recent medical attention. Who knows what killed him?

As for his music - it defined an era. I often wonder about today's youth and the music they are growing up and leading their lives to. Are they as affected as we were by the music? I try to listen to what my grandchildren like, because music always meant SO much to me. And even though I am old(er) now I have tried very hard to keep an open mind to what is "current". Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a whole lot to really, really like. Some of it I find to be just drivel, other stuff is "just okay". But there has been little that I've heard that really has struck me as being great.

Is anybody making any great music today? Who? Tell me please so that I can listen to it.

Indeed he was. A true legend. You don't get talent like Prince's from the 'x factor' they're just wannabes. Orchestrated puppets with computer voice overlays...
You don't find pure genius like Prince off a TV programme. He worked his way up. And earned the 'legend' title... how it should be

Very sad day. What a performer he was, I went to see him with my mom and it turned out to be the last concert we saw together because her dementia became much worse and we couldn't do those things anymore. When I think of Prince, I think of mom, so now both are in the same place. RIP.

He apparently died of an infection, if not the flu, then a secondary bacterial one.

Prince was truly a creative genius

This was the performance that placed him as one of the greatest guitar players of all times! Watch the end when he throws his guitar up in the air! Watch George Harris*n's face when he falls backwards off the stage & is caught by the audience.

RIP little guy--you're a legend & big in our hearts

Huge respect for Prince the musical genius. But even more respect for the man and his world view. I wish he would have been more outspoken. But his gift was music and boy did he deliver. RIP my brother

Van Jones (CNN Political Commentator) collaborated with Prince on many charity projects. VJ said that Prince paid for "gifts" that people would never know he paid for. Called Prince a humanitarian first & foremost. Prince did not speak about his good works. He did not want others to know he was behind the anonymous gifts:

Yeah, did he deliver!

One of my favorite Prince songs for the great Chaka Khan with Stevie Wonder on harmonica.

50 to 55 thousand people die every year from complications from the flu. RIP Prince.
