According to BBC documentary, there was limited air-play of diverse radio in Minneapolis back in the 70's. I believe it because one had to really search for it on the super-diverse east coast back then.

Minneapolis is on the map in a big way because of Prince - imo. He loved his city - and I love him for it.

I especially love it that he didn't flock to NY or CA but chose to remain in his home town. -Always loved that about him...

He is the artist who chose Minneapolis - for whatever reasons he has also highlighted a beautiful place to live, work, and be artistic in so many venues and ways...

Bless this man and to all in Minneapolis where the grief is felt on the ground... I heart you - you are is hometown heart, forever, and always...:heartbeat:

I don't want to be too much of a cheerleader for the place, but even if there were not diverse music on the radio (though I remember listening to world music in the late 70s, early 80s myself, on my clock radio in my bedroom!), there was an active and supportive environment for LIVE music in Minneapolis, as well as album music. Prince's dad was a musician, which leads me to believe it wasn't that hard for Prince to find musical inspirations while growing up.

But, I will let the matter go....and take a dip in Lake Minnetonka.

Thank you....and unless a will, trust or some directive is found about the music that was stored in the vault, his wishes for it will never be accomplished.

I think this is great - he seems to be even more energetic than usual. Love his sparkly outfit too.

Honestly no offense intended -

I was a jazz kid back in the day and I remember having to hunt down and search endlessly for the airtime for programming on the radio in 1970’s NYC!

Prince chose his hometown. For this, Prince was so unique - and my whole, entire, point over these last few posts is that I truly admire and love him for it...

ETA: -I was just relaying MSM -"According to BBC documentary, there was limited air-play of diverse radio in Minneapolis back in the 70's" .
That's unfortunate, I see the reference link I posted re BBC Documentary back up thread was taken down by Web Sheriff but that was the whole point...

I can't believe he didn't have a will - especially after winning back ownership of his music...
And I wonder what his wishes for the vault would have been ?

Eh, Madonna makes sense, they are of the same generation and were 1980s/MTV icons during the same era.

You know, Madonna has gotten her fair share of bad press lately – but she gave a beautiful tribute to Michael Jackson at the VMAs in 2009.

Madonna, MJ, and Prince are all the same age, and all made their mark at the same time in the 80’s… And here she is, the lone survivor of that MTV trilogy – I think she’ll do Prince proud…

How will anyone do a tribute worthy of Prince? -Such an impossible act to follow but I do think @ 7:54 Alicia Keys knocks ‘Adore’ out of the ballpark – Fantastic, and love Prince’s reaction to her! Priceless!!!

I cannot cope with award shows but I sure hope, in addition to Madonna, some of his nearest and dearest will be on tap to pay tribute to him as well…

Janelle Monet's performance of Lets Go Crazy was supercharged-out of this world. Prince was not smiling a whole lot though. Do you think he liked her rendition?

Ha! I love Janelle Monae and so does Prince - they did a great song featured on her latest album but I think he was cringing through this rendition of Let's Go Crazy. Something seemed off with the sound too.

--I do think Esperanza Spalding was gorgeous both in song and visually.

But Alicia Keys when she crawled up on the piano - omg I fell in love with her... Imo - Adore is one of his most beautiful ballads with that key change up that just melts my heart Every.Single.Time.

I like Adore a lot too..
But I still say The Beautiful Ones is seriously underrated ...

It never seemed to me that he was very down with her rendition ..lol

Get out the rotten tomatoes, but, Sheila E kinda struck a nerve with me by saying the music in the vault should not
Be released....Prince spoke many times about it being released when he was gone..

Self Deleted

Well, not sure what ^^^ “Self Deleted”^^^ means but it totally struck my funny bone this morning!

You know all these endless award shows with the same line ups, same kind of cookie cutter extravaganza performances - it is all so corporate and watered down - I can’t watch. Imo- the David Bowie tribute at the Grammys was a disaster. A puppet show with super snazzy computer graphics… And I like Gaga – esp. w/ Tony Bennett.

I thought why not have Prince’s musicians make a tribute? -Or, how about P-funk? Or how about the musicians he really admired; Clinton, Keys, Spalding, Mars, Monae, Staples, 3rdeyegirl?

Even though Prince and Madonna have worked together I do have my doubts – can Madonna resist making it about her? -Still, Madonna has personal history – and it is only a month after April, and it’s not like they can do an award show without a tribute, right?

‘Whatever’, just hoping it is not some kind of cringe-worthy pastiche interpretation tribute, and that Madonna can pull off something meaningful.

rtbm & bbm: you are absolutely right, Inthedetails. Prince had a very sophisticated musical upbringing - an early childhood education. You know, I was blown away watching his performance on the uploaded Montreaux Jazz concert - his musical fluidity is undoubtedly from his earliest exposure to jazz.

Also, want to say, kudos for being the cheerleader. While Minneapolis may have been somewhat of a mystery (imo) to larger creative hubs - east and west coasts - Minnesota is and was home to some of the greatest musicians and filmmakers, and home to the beloved Prairie Home Companion...

Prince knew that too...

...all imo...
