Here are several nice stories and videos with interviews about the private, invitation-only memorial for Prince held at his local Kingdom Hall. Prince had been one of Jehovah's Witnesses since 2003 and was clearly loved by his congregation. No press was allowed, but others besides Jehovah's Witnesses were in attendance, including some celebrities, his bodyguard Romeo and personal assistant, and even neighbors who happened to walk by and were invited in. Two songs were sung, a talk was given about Prince and his spiritual activities and hope, and Larry Graham was interviewed briefly. About 450 attended.

On the back of the program was a quote from the Prince song "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed" from his 2006 album "3121":

"If I were to ever write down my life story, I could say with all the fame and glory, I was just a piece of clay in need of the potter's hand."

This line reminds me of Isaiah 64:8 and certainly shows Prince's humility--
But now, O Jehovah, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are our Potter; We are all the work of your hand.

Shoulda just named him King ....

Elvis Presley was the King of "Rock and Roll"
Michael Jackson was the King of "Pop"
And, Prince with his birth name was, well just Prince...

While I agree with the elevation sentiment, I think even Prince knew he was far and away in some other stratosphere and never needed a definition, musicially or otherwise. The more I read about him, I can see why he chose to live and work in Minnesota, out of the glaring spotlight... And safe in the arms of Minneapolis.

I often wonder how geniuses cope? In that respect, I think he felt isolated.

And, yes, I'm still crying too. I ask myself how is this possible? I can only think that the memories Prince created through his music have left such an indelible impression that the subterranean experience is calling on my memory. From my late 20's on, his music is etched in my soul and millions of others too...

There was a similar experience when Elvis died a generation before. There, in one man embodied the dreams of millions.

The same is written about Mozart, too.

It is so interesting how one can be so affected by a song, or a body of work, and the man himself...

I saw Chaka Khan & Rufus at an amazingly small venue in the early 90's... Tell me something good, a Prince song, was gold. She is, and will always be, one of the most memorable, fantastic, and beautiful artists/performers ever, Imo.

It is blowing my mind how it has affected myself and so many others ...

Do you think we took him for granted?. Like out of sight out of mind?

Imo - aw that is a great hindsight Q, but no I don't think anyone ever took him for granted, and I think that is why it is so heartbreaking to lose Prince. What a huge empty space there is in the world is without him.

Anytime he performed or started something new there was always anticipation and excitement. No one else did that the way he did. May not have been able to keep track of all that he did but the loss is so very profound. I am thinking today about how incredibly difficult this must be for those who knew and loved him.

I think maybe we took for granted we'd have him a lot longer.
It's overwhelming to go back through his catalogue now that he's gone .And all the unreleased stuff that's floating around ...
Then there is that persona and the privacy he established and now we are seeing and hearing never before footage ...
It's wild because he's only human after all..or was he ?
I miss him !

Check out the radio show I posted , there's a player right on that page .Its the bomb , and I only have an iPad right now . Trying to figure out how to capture it .....it's that good !

This has got to be THE most epic tribute yet...
4 hours of jamming and some commentary ...
And a killer uncut, pristine version of Purple Rain ...as first played at First Street...
It's suppose to come down soon, ...
Don't miss it ...
