Another inconsistency: We teach kids to ask "Which of these things doesn't belong with the others?" Looking in that "crafts" box, the thing that jumps out at me is that Paragliding certificate. It apparently has nothing to do with creating or maintaining a new identity. Why did she keep it in that box? If it had sentimental value she could have kept it in her other file cabinet. Why did she keep it in her false identity box? I can't help but believe that this is a major clue if we just knew how to read it.

While searching for strip club owners/managers in the Dallas area, I also did some searches using their names and "parachuting"... thinking I might find someone who shared this hobby with her.

'Could be the unknown boyfriend was a paragliding enthusiast?

IMHO we shouldn't read too much into the stripper angle.

1. The only info that she was a stripper came from an ex-boyfriend. The ladies on this forum would probably be skeptical of this info for that reason alone, and so would I. How long was he her boyfriend? This info came b4 her S/L application (because she used ex boyfriend as a reference on that application). I get the impression from the article that the ex didn't know her very well.

2. Girls can strip for a brief time and come back when they need money, and a lot of college girls do it, but it seems like a risky profession for someone who is trying to fly under the radar. Strippers often worry that hey will be seen by someone they know, or that their families know. Particularly since Dallas is such a major airline hub, with people from all over the country flooding through. I would think she would be very concerned about being recognized.

You make a good point, the info did come from an ex-bf, however I believe Velling would have omitted it if he didn't give it some merit. Despite my "Fred&Edna" name, I am a "lady" on this forum ;) (Fred is my dog, but Edna is not my real name)

It always good to have new people here with new thoughts and ideas... keep 'em coming!

I think that at this point Velling is stumped, and although I'm sure he's holding back some info (LE always does), I think he is sharing most of his leads in the hope that somebody will recognize something, or make a connection that he hasn't made (which seems to have happened several times here on websleuth). I think if he had any more info on the stripping angle he would have disclosed it. Velling doesn't seem to have come up with much in the way of friends, etc. She seems to have been a loner. I think he heard "stripper", thought "that's interesting", but the lead never went anywhere, probably because she only did it for a short time to make ends meet. Stripping isn't for everyone, plus it's a darned good way to get recognized.

Nothing personal. I'm sure that your ex-boyfriends have nothing but good things to say about you.

Falling asleep, so hope this is coherent.

I think he said dancer, there's a difference between dancer and stripper. That's not saying she didn't strip. If she knew club managers, she may have been able to pickup work on her terms, sick call or asking if they could use her that evening that way she wasn't at one club too long. If she was good, she won't need to work a lot, tips would be generous in right places. Perhaps her family and family friends didn't partake in gentlemen clubs or rarely went to TX. She may have been a legit escort or not so legit. Any of the above could conceivably be paid under table or NJ SSN.

As far as ex-boyfriend, all that I remember he said was she danced and had major issues. I'd love to know what those issues were.

'Night all. :eek:fftobed:

BBM I don't even want to think about what some of my ex-bf's might say about me, lol

However, I feel certain none of them would tell an investigator I was a dancer at a gentlemen's club in an effort to portray me in a negative light. If, in fact, that was my past.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see the information as disparaging to her character... it just seems a fact of her life. (maybe small... and maybe only for a short time but we have only a very few good leads at this time)

I have no information about her ex boyfriend, his character, or their relationship. I don't doubt that he said he thought she was dancing or that she had problems. It sounds to me like he didn't know her very well, just some chick he met in class. I just don't think she was a stripper for any extended period because of the chances of being recognized. I could always be wrong. It just seems to me that a lot of the theories I read here have some sort of stripper angle to them, and I'm just saying that we shouldn't read too much into a single uncorroborated comment from a source of unknown reliability.

So, what angle is worth working on?

I think it's highly likely that she was involved in the sex/flesh trade on some level. You don't get bolt-ons for no reason. She also likely had no money trail for the years of 88 and her college days.

I agree that the breast augmentation may have been related to stripping. She may have been stripping off and on to pay bills b4 she got her degree (possibly after). However stripping is what you call a "public" profession. I find it significant that none of the girls she worked with, nor any managers, waitresses, etc have come forward (not to mention former customers). She may have stripped up to the day she met Blake, for all I know. But there's not much evidence of it, that I have seen.

I had a long drive today and did some 'free thinking' about this. Bear with me...I am Canadian.

1) Hypothetically, I want to disappear today. Leave my Prairies and go to Toronto? No....still too risky. Quebec maybe, because the language barrier creates a sort of border to familiarity/foreignness (maybe English is her 2nd language). Should I go to the States? Absolutely. Drive west, then south. "Go hard or go home."

2) She doesn't appear to be a waitress type (common job for young adult), nor does she appear to be a housekeeper. Nanny? Maybe. Personal assistant? Absolutely. Maybe she was an assistant to someone in the film/screen industry and had access to names/phone numbers/travel/skimming assets/letterheads/etc.

Gut instincts say that I hit the nail on the head.

3) "Failed Stockbroker"? For someone who can fabricate a whole new past, why not say "Successful Stockbroker"?

She doesn't strike me as the stripper type, either. She looks awkward and boxy in her photos, and somehow self-conscious. I do not mean any insult or offense--but her height and "matronly" appearance just don't scream topless dancer.

Of course it takes all kinds, and we don't know where she worked, if she did, as a dancer. Dallas was home to the "high end" topless bar, as was Houston, especially during the 80's oil boom. I knew girls who made thousands per night at Rick's in Houston. The money spikes and plummets along with the local economy, so I'd say FLEK in the 1990's would make $100-$150 per night.

The problem here is that NOBODY knew "Lori Kennedy Ruff"--she was lying about her very identity. I got the impression that her husband was a quiet, non-confrontational type who didn't ask any questions--everyone else in their life DID ask questions and thought that there was something very wrong with the woman.

Imagine finding out your spouse was a total fabrication? It's dishonest, cruel and hurtful to find out that you don't know your wife at all. The entire relationship was based on her lies.

Stripping is such a high-turnover, anonymous sort of existence--after a few years, either the club you worked at is going to be closed, under new management, etc., and it will be all new girls working there. Using a stage name, being transient and not working a schedule all work to make it a largely anonymous lifestyle.

I don't see her as a stripper either? Maybe she bartended or waited tables at a strip club? Or perhaps maybe was some sort of fetish dancer? Most dancers are tall but she strikes me as kind of gangly and awkward. I think she's pretty but not stripper material.

"Dancing" and "Dancer" are used in Texas to describe "stripper"--there's probably a term for each state! At least in Dallas & Houston in the '90's it was the case.

A lot of dancers (which really is a much more respectful term than "stripper") start as waitresses then start dancing when they see how much money they can make. Lots of college girls dance to make ends meet. Lots of dancers get breast augmentation. A lot of dancers do it for a couple of days/weeks and decide that it's not for them. Who knows?

I know a number of dancers, strippers and AVN winning *advertiser censored* stars, looks can be deceiving. Actually, I had a friend get miffed at me 2 weeks ago when he said he may consider doing another movie. I said geriatric *advertiser censored*, as he's 40ish. OMG, his reaction! LOL We then agreed that men do hold up better than women in industry.

IF she worked at a club that was NOT considered upscale then ability and talent would not be big requirements. If a person is young, has the "goods" and can at least move... then they could be hired.

Most of the photos I've seen of LEKR were taken during the time she was married. She may not have looked so matronly during her college years.

If you take a look at this photo (thought to be taken in 1997) still not a "hottie" but it's a better possibility (imo). She's tan, looks healthier and actually appears maybe more confident.

That reminded me of a conversation I had many years ago. A friend and I were discuss "the cliques" and he said you know so and so was a dancer in Vegas. I said no way, she's way too short, he counter with not all the clubs are on the strip. He had me there.

The photo I like of her is Idaho ID, but can see her dancing in passport pix letting her hair go wild.

I think the younger pics of her show a very beautiful woman. JMO
