Exactly, why look for an attorney who will misstate the law, when you can just pay one to.

Not a bad gig - if you are willing to sell out. Sorry, but my reputation among my colleagues is not for sale.

So, did you laugh at your colleague Ms. Lyon's distasteful, unprofessional, insulting comment about female prosecutors wearing strap-ons?

That comment was so totally inappropriate and blatantly sexist it needed to be exposed. You never even mentioned it your blog today and seemed upset or confused about Sheaffer calling Lyons unprofessional. Did you think her comment was funny or insulting to all women?

Not one penny of public money is used. But think about it, defense lawyers are prohibited from attending seminars put on by the Florida Prosecutors Association.

Plus, the last time I check, a prosecutor was not a protected class (i.e. gender, race, or age group). So those laws would not apply - even if public money was used.

Also, I forgot something...
When you say "prohibited", do you mean it's actually against the law or do you mean it's against the rules of the seminar? I mean, how does somebody lose their ability to practice over a seminar tape leak? Is it considered disclosure? Yes I'm being serious...I really don't know.

I wish I could thank you a thousand times for this!

Interesting you make that point. Mr. Sheaffer specifically advertised in the Orlando Magazine (if I remember the magazine correctly) that he only takes on something like 10 cases a year.

So how much do you think he charges charges those 10 clients.... Must be a pretty penny, that is for sure.
I'm not sure if you've been verified...sorry if you have...but what I'm reading doesn't become someone who wants to maintain a good reputation. Of course...this is JMHO

I don't know either Mr. Sheaffer or Mr. Hornsby personally, but I do have an opinion about this recent blog war.

As a retired educator with many years of working with many other professionals, one thing I have always done is speak in a respectful manner of my colleagues, regardless of my personal opinion. All of my colleagues share my level of education and deserve my respect due to a sense of professionalism.

What bothers me most is that Mr. Hornsby went after Mr. Sheaffer like a pit-bull. Mr. Sheaffer had his opinions and I would expect a lawyerly disagreement from Hornsby. In his first diatribe against Sheaffer, Hornsby lowered himself to the level of a name-calling bully.

Tattling is another example of immature behavior and Hornsby went as far as to toot his own Twitter-horn.

Kudos to Mr. Sheaffer for maintaining his professional attitude, even when voicing his own opinion in rather strong language.

I wish I could thank you twice for this well spoken thought!

I do find it interesting that on Hornsby's blog he does admit to being a legal analyst for WFTV until they aquired Shaeffer. Then his services were no longer required or asked for.

Could be that Mr. Hornsby has a personal axe to grind here.

I'm thinking it's more like a "social" organization.

This is a good old boys club of Defense Attorneys who stand up for their own...Lyon and Baez are one of their own........He is not being disbarred....He will not go anywhere in my opinion....This is like being asked to resign from the AMA if you criticize a physician and are a member...

Kind of like Cindy claiming that she cancelled on Oprah because of "integrity".

That's what my understanding was, also. Something else...I'm finding that most of these so-called seminars actually do receive public funding. I'm still trying to track down this particular one to see what kind of $ network they have set up to afford it. Where is it held? Is it in a college? If it is, colleges receive public funding, from state and otherwise. If it's in an arena, then...hmmm...

Mr. Hornsby, could you please tell us how these seminars are funded? I mean, do the criminal defense attorneys pay a fee to sign up, then the seminar leader pays whatever establishment to hold the seminar in that given facility? Or, is it held in a college & that college waives the "rent" so to speak? If so, couldn't that also be considered publicly funded?

Personally, I think anyone who thinks giving JB "advice" is a good thing (too much info may hurt him), shouldn't be lambasting other attorneys for doing their job...and doing it well IMO. I think BS's very well spoken and extremely knowledgeable. He speaks his mind...and he's entitled to. I don't think anyone is putting words into his mouth. They're his opinions and we as a free society can make up our own minds as to whether we agree or disagree.

Ms. Lyons has no problem throwing out crap videos about the exes of Kronk, but god forbid the truth about "her" be thrown out for the public to see. Now I understand her connection to KC. Birds of a feather...

BBM. Hmm, with all due respect, Mr. Hornsby, I have a feeling your reputation with your colleagues was sold out today.

Mr. Hornsby on his blog also says that the comments from Ms. lyon's were taken out of context, but when posters on his blog asked how female prosecutors wearing strap-**'s could be taken out of context, and in what way would that particular statement be considered professional in any context....well he kinda didn't respond to that.

Didn't Lyon say in those tapes released that she herself has sent in spies at those Pros. Seminars.

LOL - Really, if you want to know anything about me, just send me an email. I am your average joe, just with a law degree.

But you should know, everything on the Clerk's computer is nothing more than civil infractions. I would point out that my driver license says I am a safe driver though!!!

Now for the juicy stuff - I was arrested when I was 18, plead no contest, and completed 1 month of probation. Case was expunged. Shhhh.

Also, in Alachua County (while in law school no less) I was arrested for Open Container and Disorderly Conduct after the Florida Gators beat up on the Tennessee Volunteers. Charges were dismissed.

Since then I have had a few run-ins, but never arrested again.

Cheers!

p.s. You should look Roy M. Kronk on Monroe County, Florida Clerk of the Court website. Looks like he was writing bad checks about the same time his ex-wife was... Go figure.

Trust me, I don't want or need to know anything else about you. I know that you turned in a well respected attorney, not only that, but you made sure to inform the public about it on your forum. If "moral integrity" was your motive you would have had no reason to blog about it.

You made a comment about Mr. Scheaffer having to practice with his fellow defense attorneys in court, as if his actions will affect him in the legal community. I believe you are giving yourself too much credit. Mr. Scheaffer was well respected before you and will continue to be so. He wrote about a defense attorney that used vile comments to describe jurors and female prosecutors, those comments were very vile. I would not expect something like that from any professional. Mr. Scheaffer exposed Ms. Lyons for what she really is. I appreciated his comments on the matter and if you were a decent attorney, you would too. The fact that you have a problem with his comments tells me all I need to know about your "moral integrity".

If I was you I would be worried about YOUR future relationship with the legal community in Orlando, don't worry about Bill, he'll do just fine.

Thank God is right Bean...maybe we can find some nook or cranny here on WS to "store" this legal advice Andrea so freely provided. It seems to be a waste to not use such a powerful lecture from one of the pioneers in the field.
Maybe someone would be kind enough to transcribe the tapes for posterity. She hasn't copyrighted her words (she just may have if she was giving a lecture) has she?

Gosh...I just thought of something...can you imagine how rich CA would be if she had?

Right...but...if this is in fact a Florida Association, then it could help to kill his career in the State of Florida...kwim?
