He probably had her drink drugged and threatened her. He probably has kept her drugged all this time, which might explain why she appeared physically healthy, but her state of mind wasn't.
I have seen nothing about her state of mind. In the presser they said they wouldn't comment on her state of mind.

Most of these perps try to run ,hide, or barricade themselves, when they know they've been caught.Pena just opens the door with Olivia standing beside him.He really feels entitled.I can hear him telling the police, she wanted to come stay with me.The only word I can describe him is delusional.Just like the photos on his FB ,all those dressy clothes you would never know he was homeless most of the time.

This is my feeling of him too. She wanted to be with him there in his mind and she was "lucky" to get to spend time with such a casanova. (Barf!) I think in his mind this was not a kidnapping. Clearly he is not all there mentally. MOO

Delusional maybe. No mention in the presser that Olivia threw herself at the police when he opened the door. I would have expected some statement about her expressing her relief at being rescued.

IMO they left how they found her vague on purpose. We don't know if she was tied or chained up. We don't know if she was drugged. It has been several days, maybe he had not fed or given her water and she was severely dehydrated. Basically, she might not have been in any state to throw herself at the police. MOO

In the press conference PD made it clear that Olivia was held against her will. There is more information to come out. They don't want to jeopardize the investigation.

Dear Inspector Gidget,

Yes, I absolutely agree and I understand the need for them to keep the integrity of this investigation a high priority.

The police worked tirelessly until they located Olivia alive.

I'm not sure what the outcome may have been, had it taken another day. We just never really know - depending on the perpetrator's mindset, which could change - even hourly. Added to that - the potential "panic" could set in that he didn't want to be "caught" with her.

I join everyone in being so thankful that this young woman is back with her loving family. (Oh how I wish we could say this more often).

Wow! Not the news I was expecting at all...but so relieved to hear it.

I live nearby, and walk past the Faneuil Hall area daily on my way to work. There are a lot of homeless people that hang around Haymarket, which is about a block away. Many clearly have mental health issues. I don't usually feel unsafe, but this whole situation has made me a little uneasy.

I'm curious about the 40 minutes between leaving the bar and ending up at State/Congress. This is literally a 3 minute walk... Not sure we'll ever know what happened, but that is a lot of unaccounted for time.

Great job by the Boston PD on this one.

BBM

It is unlikely that she was outside for 40 minutes that wintry night when there are bars in the vicinity. They may have gone to get a drink, and she was drugged at that point. If she was drugged. Hopefully they have checked for video at different bars in the vicinity.

I asked my husband where inside the casino do you get in trouble for trespassing at a casino, and he told me you get charged with trespassing is you get banned from the casino and come back in. I feel so stupid thinking he went in an office. Wanna BET he was bugging women and it wasn't about gambling??

This is totally my thinking too... that he answered the door because he was living in a fantasy land that only existed in his mind. That poor girl must've been terrified.

Olivia is obviously a very smart girl, and probably saved her own life by having her wits about her the last few days. There is no doubt whatsoever that this creep had only bad things planned for her. Kudos to all who helped find her!

I believe LE spokesperson at presser responded to media inquiry that "OA was standing next to perp" (i.e., her location in the room when seen by police). MOO

‘She did not go along willingly;’ Victor Peña arrested on kidnapping charges after Olivia Ambrose found alive in Charlestown

Boston Police announced Victor Peña, 38, of Charlestown, has been charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of Olivia Ambrose, the 23-year-old woman who was found Tuesday afternoon.

In a press conference, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said authorities entered the home of Peña at 49 Walford Way, at the Bunker Hill Housing Development on Tuesday, where they found the suspect standing near Ambrose.

Police apprehended and arrested Peña, while Ambrose was taken to a local area hospital where she is under evaluation. Gross said the victim appears to be in good health, though added: “As for state of mind, I cannot attest to what state of mind.”

ETA: BBM for specific inquiries.

'Community policing’ led Boston police to door of Victor Peña, man charged in kidnapping of Olivia Ambrose

Boston Police searched homes, football fields, and dumpsters looking for Olivia Ambrose until a tip led them to Victor Peña’s apartment door on Walford Way in Charlestown Tuesday afternoon.

When police knocked on the 38-year-old Peña’s door, he opened it. There, police say Ambrose “standing” beside Peña, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said at a press conference on Tuesday night.

“We made entry into that apartment she was observed standing inside the apartment near the suspect. We eventually separated them,” Gross said, calling the city-wide search a collaborative effort.
