GUILTY MA - Three Pittsfield men slain over Hells Angels assault case, 28 Aug 2011

I wonder why they want to wait until Monday, you know it's going to be life with no parole.

I really think this guy got a bad deal. Seems like he got a bad deal doing 7 years in Maine too. I never understood that either. He was just there, didn't really do anything, even the two girls said that in court.

I'll have to read up on that one, I saw a small bit about it and that he spent 7.5 years for it but don't know much of the particulars. People really do judge a book by its cover, regardless of what they say, huh?

Tonight I saw a news blurp on the guilty verdict with a photo of Veiovis. I was intrigued by his appearance; thinking to myself, this awful man who seems to want to look like Satan, was once an infant, completely innocent. How does life go so wrong for someone, what's the pivot point?

My preconceived notion was that this guy must have had a horrible childhood. But after doing some net surfing, I found quite the opposite.

I read his Mother's obit, she passed away in November 2012. Her career was in social services, she was said to have helped many abused children throughout the years. His Father, spent 30 years as a probation officer. He has two sisters, who seem like very nice people (fb pages). The Press Herald story linked above gives a glimpse into his past, and the help his family tried to get him. But I can't help but wonder, with two parents in the fields they were in, how did he slip through the cracks? Or did he?

He claims to be adopted. I don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, maybe the damage had already been done.

Here is another interesting article. Veiovis wrote a letter to the Berkshire Eagle in 2011 from jail. There is a copy of the letter. Check out his handwriting.

... " in a terse postscript, Veiovis expressed sorrow to the families of the victims in a triple murder case he has been charged in. "I would like to express my sincere condolences to the families involved in this tragic case. The deceased are not the only victims here," Veiovis stated in the postscript.

Thanks Esse, I'd read the letter contents before but hadn't seen the .pdf, that's some very interesting-looking script. Seems like he's been diagnosed with almost every personality disorder out there, makes me wonder if he's being treated/medicated while in jail.

US 'devil horns' killer threatens jury after triple murder conviction

A US man with "devil's horns" implanted in his forehead lashed out at the jury after being convicted of a brutal triple murder - but the killer's lawyer says the outburst was "understandable".

Massachusetts man Caius Veiovis, 34, was found guilty of three counts of murder, intimidation of a witness, and kidnapping.

He considers himself a victim? Of what I wonder?

The youngest sister was adopted from Russia.

Not nice of me, but it is always rewarding when wanna be toughies get in trouble over their projected personality's behaviour.

Caius Veiovis maintains innocence during sentencing to 3 consecutive terms of life in prison

"Let me make this clear, my hand wasn't in this," Veiovis said as he read a prepared statement. He said he will not "hang my head and beg for mercy." "You condemn an innocent man and I will appeal this," Veiovis said.

Veiovis said Capeless offered him the opportunity to plea conspiracy after the fact, with a sentence of seven years.

From the same article comes this interesting quote from Veiovis' lawyer:

Asked by a television reporter if he believed what his client said in court about being innocent, Reardon said, "It's not a question of what I believe. I'm a lawyer. I don't know what actually happened. What I believe is under the law the evidence was insufficient to convict him."

I was going to post, but changed my mind.

Darn, I forgot all about the sentencing, on my way to the live blog to read the details, thanks for the article Esse.

Supreme Judicial Court to rule on triple murder

Veiovis has always maintained his innocence in the three slayings.

"My hand was not in this," he said at his sentencing.

Curhan said the only way investigators learned there was a third person involved in the murders was because Hall said there was such a participant, but he never identified Veiovis as that person.

A witness in the case, who was also later charged as an accomplice for providing the excavator used to bury the victims' dismembered corpses, said Hall identified someone else besides Veiovis as the third participant in the crime.
