"A written statement from the Portimao Department of the Faro Law Enforcement Agency (DIAP) reads: "As part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007, charges were brought against one person on Wednesday."

Christian B. wird als Verdächtiger angeklagt!

This should be confirmed by someone in here from Portugal?!

This means the abduction theory has officially been accepted by the Portuguese after saying there was no evidence of a break in.

Can't wait for Gonc's statement.

A man has been charged in Germany in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, a Portuguese prosecutor's office says.
9News understand charges were laid against the suspect at Portugal's request.
Portugal's 15-year limit on prosecutions meant there were just weeks left to charge the man, who has not been formally identified.

Suspect in Madeleine McCann case charged in Germany

"Uma declaração escrita do Departamento de Portimão da Agência de Aplicação da Lei de Faro (DIAP) diz: "No âmbito da investigação sobre as circunstâncias do desaparecimento de Madeleine McCann em 2007, as acusações foram feitas contra uma pessoa na quarta-feira."

Isso deve ser confirmado por alguém aqui de Portugal?!

So I guess if the Portuguese were to question CB they would have to share their files with his Lawyer.

It has been said that the BKA has not shared all their evidence with the Portuguese, so CB will only be questioned on what the Portuguese has.

Could get very interesting.

“ German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters confirmed to Sky News that it was "apparently only for formal reasons, to prevent a statute of limitations in Portugal". “

Madeleine McCann: Convicted child abuser Christian B becomes official suspect in disappearance
From the same article:
'Christian B has been informed he is now an "arguido" - a formal suspect - but has not been charged.'
So it looks as if the 'charged' part was just wishful thinking on the part of whatever media outlet first came up with it a few hours ago.
Still a significant development, though.

Madeleine McCann: Portuguese authorities declare formal suspect

A person has been declared an official suspect by Portuguese prosecutors investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

They did not name the person of interest but said they were acting on the request of German authorities.

On Thursday, a statement was issued by prosecutors in Faro, Algarve's main city, who said a person was made an "arguido" - which translates as "named suspect", "formal suspect" or "person of interest" - a day earlier.

It is the first time Portuguese prosecutors have identified an official suspect in the case since Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, were named suspects 15 years ago. They were later cleared.

On 3 May it will be 15 years since Madeleine was reported missing and under Portuguese law it would no longer be possible to declare someone a person of interest beyond this date. Declaring someone a person of interest is a necessary step to any criminal charges.

In its statement, though, Portugal's office of public prosecutions said that the move was not driven by timing, but by "strong indications" of the practice of a crime.
