The sensational news came by email on Wednesday. The Braunschweig Regional Court announced: The arrest warrant in the trial against Christian B. has been lifted at the request of the defense . He is currently facing charges of three counts of rape and two counts of child abuse. The lifting of his arrest warrant does not mean that he will walk out of court a free man.

Is this via the Isobel tweet ?

No this is from July, the tweet you refer to is her usual nonsense, the trial continued to day.See here.

Following the trial loosely and this case tangentially --

When LE discovered the burn pit and then the dead dig and then the trove of digital evidence, please tell me they didn't stop digging. Please tell me they excavated that pit clear through to magma. Perfect decoy to bury a dead animal many feet about a body... guessing he never expected the trove to be unearthed so I have to wonder what else he may have buried there, pony deeper.

Timeline-wise could MM be there?

JMO

Meg, I would love to say, don't worry, LE knew what they were doing...but then we found out some evidence may have been (or was?) illegally collected. JMO.

It's also just my opinion that if he took her, he would not have brought her all the way to Germany. He was known to spend time near the reservoir in Portugal. It was rather secluded there... Note I am not following this case "closely" either.

Although from the other case this mentions mm, it also says his lover was with him, obviously we don't know if true, but who would it be?

Wasn't that the teenage girl on vacation with her parents? "Lover". Don't know the law about age of consent.

I think it's been confirmed it was the week before or after, that he is was with the young German girl who was on holiday with her parents.

Different case .. but progress in the Morgan Nick investigation announced today .
Suspect confirmed , who had been on radar for some time , after modern DNA analysis on a hair from a vehicle that had even changed hands a few times since abduction in 1995 .

Makes one hope that police could get a similar breakthrough for MM .

Hoping the development leads to further clarity regarding Morgan’s fate for her family .

Today he was acquitted of all of those 5 charges.

So bringing discussion of the MM case here.

Why do we think they declared CB as their suspect in the MM case years ago yet have not charged him?

Was it simply a lack of professionalism and experience?

Did they really believe they were on the verge of charging him?

Did they have a very significant piece of evidence that they now can't legally use? (Not a witness nor a book of writings but something that the defense couldn't claim is just fantasy?)

Did they believe that naming CB would probably lead to her remains?

Did they think accusing him was the only way to get cooperation from the Portuguese authorities?

Something else?

Frightening verdict.

Perhaps these cases, tried together, were the test cast.

MM case, same sketchy witness, same limited evidence, and IMO same inadmissible pot -- spoiled fruit from the firepit find, discovered sans warrant. I think there is sufficient (and dastardly) evidence to conclude he had her, he damaged her and she couldn't and didn't survive. Whether they'd enough evidence to convict? As we just saw, sometimes there just isn't.

It would be a travesty if this man is allowed to offend again, in any country.

@Megnut Are you saying you think they have very convincing evidence that would probably lead to conviction if it hadn't been thrown out, but since they can't use it, they are stuck?

I don't know. Just theorizing they have something that they might not be able to use or it's just not solid enough. Say fibers from the same dye lot as MM's pj's but no way to prove-prove they're from hers. Combined with images/drawings that paint the ugly picture. Enough to convince her parents, a harder sale for conviction.

Today I feel for victims and their families who have to feel silenced.

I suspect they have a confession witness, so they believe they know what happened, and they thought they'd be able to get the hard evidence. But they never found enough hard evidence.

A no body case is going to be super difficult without forensics IMO. Even if they have some physical evidence to support their theory of the case, they have to be able to rule out all the other theories of the case as reasonable possibilities. That is challenging.
