You've posted a link to the Tapas bookings sheets - There was also separate staff messages book in which the receptionist wrote her note to justify why she had block booked the tables all week. This was not usually permitted, due to a limited number of tables at the Tapas restaurant.
I think the note was just a post it on this booking book. But as you can see the booking book had their names and flat numbers

This from Kate’s book... if it helps.

“To my horror, I saw that, no doubt in all innocence, the receptionist had added we wanted to eat close to our flats as we were leaving our young children alone there, checking on them intermittently.”

I was thinking a pencilled in annotation?

Apologies if already covered/ annoying to find, but do we have any other source than tabloids that CB had an OC connection? I’ve read about the book left open/ receptionist linked/ Silva etc but at the time that felt very much like tabloid hysteria and making links that weren’t there, particularly re: Silva. I’ve had a few weeks off though - is there a source?

It is not possible to have it because this CB case came after the files were open for public. There is nothing official yet about CB except the German prosecutor's and other official's words in the media.

Sure but I mean do we have anything attributed to anyone in an interview or is it all tabloid speculation? From what I remember, much of the “CB had an inside contact!” stuff started with the reveal of Silva’s (common) name and an unsubstantiated LinkedIn page. Then started speculation that the receptionist was also in on it, but I never read a source; an interview; a police quote to that end.

If CB was doing surveillance of the tourists how early that week might it have started?
If the man reported by female witness JW was CB, note the first occasion she saw him was 8am on Sunday 29th.

I think CB’s friends (eg MT) knew he burgled holiday lets and I presume that would include the Ocean Club ones.

I don’t remember anyone specifically saying he got info from a member of staff there, or anything to give him insider knowledge.

I am wondering why - I assume - CB never had children of his own, even by accident. Or did girlfriends get pregnant and he beat it out of them? Was there a self-aware part of him that recognised he was too sick for it? Even if he couldn’t maintain a relationship, it should have cropped up as a discussion or snippet somewhere.

Staff message books were/are fairly common in receptions, this allows the next receptionist on duty to check through the book to see what's happened that day, or what needs doing. I would imagine the book a missing page from the MC files due to data protection as presumably there would be other sensitive info regarding names, telephone numbers etc. GDPR wasn't as hot in 2007, so the book most probably was left on the counter as KM said.
To me it makes total sense to write the bookings on the sheet, then add a note to the staff messages book to justify why you have bent the rules.

KM's book..........
"It wasn’t until a year later, when I was combing through the Portuguese police files, that I discovered that the note requesting our block booking was written in a staff message book, which sat on a desk at the pool reception for most of the day. This book was by definition accessible to all staff and, albeit unintentionally, probably to guests and visitors, too. To my horror, I saw that, no doubt in all innocence and simply to explain why she was bending the rules a bit, the receptionist had added the reason for our request: we wanted to eat close to our apartments as we were leaving our young children alone there and checking on them intermittently. "

IMO I see no evidence CB had any inside information from any employee.
For burglaries there is no need, just watch the apartments, see people go out to dinner, burgle while they're out IMO.

Me neither. It was just reported a lot. I wasn’t sure if we’d had something more concrete on it recently.

FYI this was also posted earlier on this thread today and has been discussed extensively.

Police have identified the Ocean Club employee who passed the information on to Christian B, said the newspaper Correio de Manha.

Madeleine McCann: Suspect Christian B was 'tipped off by Praia da Luz hotel worker'

This was one of the ones I was thinking of. It was published a day or two after tabloids had decided that Silva was an inside man, which surely discredits this now? Since presumably he was the crooked insider speaking to the receptionist?

Not sure about naming the person but I find this published by The Times which is a pretty reliable source and is not a tabloid. They are quoting Hans Christian Walters, the German prosecutor. The emphasis, though, is on "may"...

Sky News then said the resort worker has been identified by police, quoting CM
Madeleine McCann: Suspect Christian B was 'tipped off by Praia da Luz hotel worker'

"The waiter, who has asked not to be identified, said the nightly routine was "set in stone", making it easy for a potential abductor to "choose the right moment to take the child".
He said the group made a "special arrangement" to book the same table at 8pm every night so they could sit outside, 50 metres from where their children lay sleeping.
He told how the arrangement was widely known about by workers at the restaurant, who thought it was strange that other holiday-makers had to queue for reservations at the popular tapas bar.
But he said he only realised after Madeleine's disappearance that the routine could have made all eight of the group's children vulnerable to a potential abductor.
He then added "The apartments are all quite close to the pool, but there are trees in between so you can't see them from the restaurant.
"Even though they were checking their children every 20 minutes or so there was still a lot of time they were left alone when someone could have gone in and taken them."
"When you think back now, because the routine was so set in stone every night, if somebody had been watching the group they would definitely have been able to work out what was going on and choose the right moment to take the child."
His eyewitness account of the group's behaviour is the first time anyone from inside the tapas bar has spoken publicly about the events of May 3.

P.J. POLICE FILES: TAPAS BOOKINGS

The article said at 8pm but it is 8.30 pm in the files / Tapas service book

Although not identified in this article , I would hazard a guess on saying this interview was given by Jose Baptista. I would swear I remember reading his wife Maria Fernandez who worked as a waitress in OC Millennium Restaurant using the term “ She was a lovely little blonde girl...just like an angel” or something very similar when she was referring to MM in her PJ witness statement, but I’ve checked and no longer says this. Please someone say they remember reading this in PJ files? Is it possible something’s could have been removed from pj files due to the investigation against CB? I am so convinced of reading this in PJ files, it’s driving me crazy.

I think I can remember a statement along those lines, Lyndaloo, from a lady who’d seen Madeleine by the pool area (during her normal holiday time). Can’t remember who said it, not necessarily staff though, maybe someone from upstairs apartment or wife of a tennis player.

Maria Fernandez works in The Ocean Club's other restaurant (the Millennium) and said ... Just a lovely little blonde girl". from the GM files

Thanks Jen perhaps another witness did say a similar thing but I’m still convinced MF was quoted as saying it.
Snowpea I don’t think I initially read it on GM Files but checking there makes me even more certain, I’m trying to find the Article shown on the Cover of The Sun newspaper (shown on GM files) of JB & MF on the front cover but can’t seem to find it anywhere, I feel a lot of news articles are missing but managed to find this one.

I seem to remember JB speaking to several newspapers away back possibly around 2007

TRIVIA: ... what if you could buy a compact home for $13,000 .... sleeps up to 6 .... master bedroom has queen size bed ... home is fully furnished , includes fridge , stove , microwave , 3pc bath , and fully air conditioned.

Sounds like a bargain right ? .... oh ... and by the way .... it also has an engine and wheels and you can move your complete home for 10 miles at the cost of only one gallon of fuel.

I speculate CB was thinking along those lines when he bought the allegro motorhome . Cheaper than rent ... and after living in the VW van it would seem like a mansion.

Not sure of RV prices in Europe but in Canada or USA an older Allegro goes for $12,000 to $14,000 ..... for a bit more you can get a washer and drier

I seem to remember all of these quoting the same article from the Correio de Manha. I wish I could speak Portuguese to read it and speak to its credibility.

Search for Foral, Algoz. Attached is a map showing the Villa Bianca where he lived in 2007 and later again in 2016.
