I know how you feel I'm sure we all do. We just all became despondent and thought the plane had vanished for good never to be seen again & suddenly this possible breakthrough. It isn't happy excitement just a sense of relief that finally we may know something after over a year of theory after theory. Unfortunately this discovery if it is the plane won't give many answers ok the plane crashed and ended up in the sea in bits but where are the passengers & crew? How did it end up in the sea? Where is the rest of the plane? Does this piece of debris show signs of an explosion etc?

P.s nice to see all of you here again thanks for your posts and updates.

I totally agree.
This possible plane debris will only answer part of the questions we all have here.
It would be nice to know the answers to your above questions.

Don't know if this link has been posted yet, but The Guardian is having rolling updates. According to the Malaysian minister, it is "almost certainly" from the 777. It appears to be a 777 "flaperon" and MH 370 is the only missing 777 in the world. This is very exciting to me, as someone who followed this case for months and always wanted to see this mystery solved.

Like you, I have always wanted to see this mystery solved too.
This is HUGE news!
I just read a another post that says a badly damaged suitcase has been recovered too!
I honestly think this wing piece and suitcase belong to MH370 :please:

If anyone knows how to find out the weight of a flaperon that would be interesting! I cant find it online! In the video its like 5 people not struggling!

The (weather?) guy on CNN just showed a model of the Indian Ocean gyre. He said the debris could have come from one of three places: Indonesia, Australia, or.....
wait for it......the Maldives.

Breaking news per CNN....debris part number corresponds to a 777.

Sounds like it's official.

COMPOSITION: Aluminum: majority of structure including a lightweight 7055 alloy used on the upper wing skin and stringers
Composites account for 9% of structural weight, including

Carbon fiber & carbon fiber reinforced plastic: used on portions of the tail including the tailfin and elevators, wing trailing edge control surfaces, engine nacelles, landing gear doors

Hybrid composites: floor beams, flap track fairings, and wing/fuselage junction fairings

Glass fiber: nose radome, engine pylon parts, portions of the wings and tail

I worked on F/A-18s in the Marine Corps for 5 years, and I seem to remember all of those materials being fairly lightweight. Obviously aluminum.

Sorry to be a thread hog, but I just had a thought. I wonder if they could tell from the sea life that has attached itself to the debris, what part of the ocean it has been in?

If this is authentic they ought to be able , to some degree learn some signfigant info. The stressers, g forces etc will tell them how it sheared off. Think of a soup ladel , sort of ! If the flap was extended at impacted , g forces would be different then if it was retracted. That is signifgant, But in underwing engine mounting typically the engine gets clobbered and detaches in ditching. They ought to be able to determine if it was retracted or extended at impact.

Yes, I'm aware of that. It does appear so far to belong to a 777.

One of the experts from CNN mentioned that this part wouldn't be painted the way it's though. :dunno:

Praying this is from MH370! So relieved to see this.

Wow. I had started to think this wasn't going to be solved in my lifetime. Hopefully this is the impetus they need to find the rest of the plane and maybe get some answers for the families who were left wondering.

Just speculating:

That is my biggest red flag. I dont know much about barnicles - but I would think something that had been in and ocean that long would have more growth than this item. It may be from the plane, but as some of you know, I think the plane was flown to Garcia base, for the FreeScale employees, and the tremendous amount of info aboard regarding drones.

I will find the link in abit - but the base ordered a large cargo ship on the 31st of March. I think that was to dump parts of the aircraft in the ocean But they did not expect the intense coverage, and the amount of searchers etc. If they got caught with parts of 777 on the ship boy oh boy international scandel - so they had to wait before they threw debris in just speculating

Sad thing to consider, the flaperon was discovered by workers who patrol the Island for clean up. They could have been finding debris for months and not realized it was related to this until finding the flaperon. I really pray that this is MH370 and will bring some closure to the families of those lost. I can only imagine what they are living and reliving today.

OK wait...a coincidence?

That being said, if this is from the MH370 too...what is happening that is causing this debris to show up now?

There are mysteries and miracles that happen every day. I think it is beautiful that this piece was found on or near an island named La Reunion. Maybe loved ones prayers have been answered and even though the remains of their loved ones may never be recovered there has been a "reunion" of sorts. Hopefully this will help those grieving move more easily through their grief. I hope so anyway.

I like the way you think, Isabelle.

Its really time to let go of the silly Diego Garcia theory. MH370 crashed into the ocean and this piece is clearly part of the wreckage. Both of the numbers released from it match the 777 manual exactly. The only thing up for debate at this point is why it crashed.

If this is it then it would help to confirm that they are searching the right area, which would mean it's just a matter of time until they find the rest of it.

It unfortunately doesn't help much with narrowing down the existing massive search areas but finally finding something is probably a much needed morale boost for the crews that have been searching all this time.

WHAT? Omg I thought I read yesterday the number on the wing (or whatever it is) did not match.

They are saying they are 99% certain it came from a 777. And since MH370 is the only missing 777 in the world, it has to be from it.

This is all per CNN, which I am watching live.
