Sunday, March 09, 09:30 AM MYT +0800 Malaysia Airlines MH370 Flight Incident - 7th Media Statement

http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/my/en/site/dark-site.html

Rescuers are looking at the possibility that the plane could have turned back, "which could mean that the aircraft could be elsewhere," acting Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein said at a briefing on the flight.

---------------------------

"I can confirm that there was an oil slick, no debris,"
Mr. Hishamuddin said, adding that Vietnamese authorities are on site to verify whether there is any jet fuel on the sea surface.

--------------------------

A European security official said it wasn't uncommon for passengers to board flights using stolen passports.

-------------------------

Malaysia is also expanding the search for Flight MH370 to the Strait of Malacca, which separates peninsular Malaysia from the Indonesian island of Sumatra, to the west.

BBM. Well, that's just fabulous! (the red part)

Possible debris sightings.

http://www.scmp.com/frontpage/international

Photographs purporting to show debris in the sea in the area where the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 lost contact have been posted on Chinese social media.

Radar tracking a missing Malaysia Airlines flight indicated that it may have turned back from its scheduled route to Beijing before disappearing, and Malaysian rescue teams have expanded their search to the country’s western coast, Malaysian military officials said on Sunday.

Hi Derryn,

Thanks for the informative posts. My old boss flew a f-111 "sparkvark" in the first gulf war, he spoke highly of it.

Also, I had no idea there were SOSUS arrays anywhere other than the north Atlantic.

With this incident happening during the night, many passengers were probably sleeping and wouldn't have noticed anything out their windows. If this had happened during the day, there would more than likely have been reports of an aircraft either blowing up or suddenly dropping.

But in a distance and a catastrophic explosion wouldnt it be easier to see in the dark, maybe? I'm a asuming there are no reports of sightings. Don't know about military exercises but even in the South China Sea I can't believe a plane can just fall out of the sky and no one sees a thing

Would love to have a peek at these videos and see if any of the passengers might be Ibrahim al-Asiri from the Homeland Security warning in February.

That's fascinating. I don't think he would be the one to go on the mission.

Would pay to see that!

I'm assuming it will hit the media soon.

The first person to yell jinx gets owed the coke. So close your pie hole until you get her a coke. A real one, not a picture. So you can't post until that happens. :floorlaugh:

Okay come on... what is that even a picture of?

My first thought was the movie "Tangled" and the flying lanterns. :twocents:

Coke is a dirty word in our house. Like canned beer. I cannot buy either. It's a sin. :scared: :floorlaugh:

I agree. Which is why I find this incident so weird...
NO one heard or saw ANYTHING?

Hoping against all odds that the plane just turned back and it somehow never made any contact with ATC for some reason. But I'm not holding my breath on that scenario...

This looks more to me like a pic out of an airplane window high above a city. Not debris in water?? <modsnip>

If there was an explosion I find it hard to believe no one saw it. When TWA Flight 800 exploded at least three airplanes contacted ATC right away to state they'd seen an explosion. There seems to be a lot of planes in that area.

By the same token, if someone took control and took it into a nosedive, I think someone would've reported a jumbo jet plummeting.

If there was a turnback, then I don't think the pilots were under control at that time. They would've radioed in the reason for the turnback, wouldn't they?

Since no large chunks of debris have been found, I think there was an explosion in the air: the debris isn't just scattered at a point of impact with the water but scattered over many miles - and there probably aren't very large pieces left. :(

If this was an act of terrorism, it does seem like a group would've stepped forward. I wonder if it's terrorist wannabe's who aren't tied to a larger organization?

Or, I wonder if the plane went down to take out a specific passenger? That's another angle.

I have a hard time believing that that is debris in the sea (hehe, I rhymed). It looks like lights to me.

Is it possible that the plane just plummeted into the sea as a whole and there wouldn't be much debris and the plane would remain mostly in tact just sunken? Just curious.
