This could be eerily reminiscent of Air France 447. :sigh:

He said the suspected oil spills have moved 80 kilometers southwest from where they were originally spotted Saturday, adding that no new suspected trace of the Boeing 777 has been found.

Defense Radar Detected Possible Turn-Back of Missing Malaysian Jet

Malaysia's defense force radar detected that the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 may have "turned back" from its original course, the nation's air force chief said.

Apologies, MsF :blushing:

It's okay, since I've posted about a million times in this thread, you had a 50/50 chance of being right! :seeya:

Bumping this post about the meteorite, didn't come from me!

There are some reports now from Chinese media that the plane has been found 100 KM north of Ho Chi Minh. According to the report from witnesses it looked like a meteorite coming down. The place has a dense jungle and difficult access.

Just seen the above posted on the airliners message board I hope it isn't true that it came down like a meteorite.

That seems like a long way from where all contact was lost - and it reportedly dropped off the radar: just before crossing over into Vietnam. I guess it's possible, but it sure seems like a long way to go and not be on radar and not crash if having trouble - and no radio contact.

snipped from article I posted above.

But on Sunday, Malaysia’s defense minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, added a confusing twist, saying the plane might have gone down west of the Malaysian peninsula. “We are looking at the possibility of an aircraft air turnback,” he said without elaborating whether the plane might have changed course for mechanical reasons or a hijacking, or why the authorities suspected the plane might have reversed course.

I remember in Elisa Lam's case, the Chinese media was amazingly superior in all aspects. jmo
Do we have any links here to Chinese media? TIA.

FIVE passengers did not board? I see their luggage was removed - but still - that's quite a few not to board after checking luggage. And add to it that they are now looking at four passengers boarding with fake passports/ID.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that most flights don't have such a high amount of suspicious activity among the passengers.

Five passengers booked on the flight did not board, he added. Their luggage was consequently removed.

I will say that there are a ton of reasons that someone might board an airplane with a false passport that have nothing to do with terrorism, and likewise there are a ton of reasons that an airplane can go down that have nothing to do with terrorism. I have no idea how this will play out, but nobody has claimed responsibility so far (and so far as we know), but it could well be jumping the gun (ahem) to presume that this was an act of terrorism.

Not sure what to make of this, snipped from http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26502843 :

Does 'booked on the flight' mean -
- 5 pa's who booked flight, purchased tix, checked luggage, and checked in at gate/got boarding passes at gate, but did not board? If so, seems hinky.
OR
- 5 pa's booked flight, purchased tix, intended to take that flight, but maybe for 4, their meetings ran late and 4 decided to catch next flight?
(so there was no luggage to remove for 4, but only one?) If so, not quite so hinky.

So much technology providing so few answers as of now. :moo:

Regarding the passports not being flagged by Interpol, I read one article that stated a Chinese national is one of the add'l folks reporting a passport used (stolen?) but they were not on the plane. In that incident, the name was on the passport, but the passport number did not match the original passport. So the number wouldn't have been flagged in a database, I reckon.

5 pax not boarding could be 1 family who missed the flight or chose not to travel or whatever.

A passenger who boards and then gets off, missing his flight,(leaving his carry-on IED on the plane) would be more interesting.

" Malaysia Airlines code-share partner, China Southern Airlines, sold seven tickets for Flight MH370 that took off early Saturday morning.

Four of the tickets were sold to those using stolen passports and those whose identities cannot be verified with the issuing authorities.

It is also not known how they managed to get visas for China despite using such passports. – March 9, 2014."
