Wonder what is in the airport security tapes that is sealed.

I hope so. In the mean time has anyone got a MASSIVE metal detector?!

3 weeks later and just as I felt on day 1, I still can't quite believe they lost a plane. I know aircraft have gone missing before but in this day and age it's just mad.

Hubby has one, like they use on Diggers?

It would be amazing if something good could come out of this tragedy.

China is suffering a shortage of women after three decades of the single child policy. All those preferred boys are growing up but they can't find any brides, whoopsie.

is this the new or old search field.

It seems to me they said they were abandoning the first search field. I got the impression that the data bit they got re speed just refined inmarsats equation with a new speed plugged in which would then give it its northerly new point. It was a group of inmarsat, ntsb aaib and a bunch of others that worked on refining it. CNN was making assumptions that i did not get from the press conference at all that its all wild guesses etc.

It's the new search field. Encouraging.

Malaysia Airlines to give psych tests to new pilots per CNN..... what about the current pilots?

The search crews are probably just exasperated. Hope they hang in there and are not burned out. Must be terribly frustrating for them too.

Lol. I have a cat who wakes me up every morning with a wet nose swiped across my face. I've learned to shut my mouth quickly.......eeeww!!

Malaysian DCA: Boeing examined performance of #MH370 after take-off to refine conclusions over aircraft's speed.

This is interesting. There has been some speculation in these threads that Boeing or Rolls Royce could have gotten some of the extra performance data from those ACARS "handshakes" - the data that MAL didn't subscribe to. Of course, with the pending lawsuits Boeing and/or Rolls Royce wouldn't be very vocal about it.

Our fav oceanographer says if the plane ended up in this new search area the 3 satellite images would have to be false leads. 1/2

2/2 or vice versa. His quote: "There is absolutely no connection, in terms of the debris between the two locations which are 1000 km apart."

NZ planes spots debris in new search area, BBC newsflash on phone

A Royal New Zealand Air Force Orion surveillance plane has found debris in a new search area identified by Australian authorities as the likely place where Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 crashed. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority tweeted that the debris had yet to be positively identified as the remnants of the aircraft, with vessels heading to the area tasked with confirming its nature on Saturday.

A New Zealand air force P-3 patrol plane has spotted "objects" in the new Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 search area, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said Friday. The plane is returning to Perth and the agency is awaiting images of the discovery for analysis.

Missing Malaysia Airlines jet: AirAsia pilot suspended for claiming Kuala Lumpur is 'hiding facts'

http://www.watoday.com.au/world/mis...la-lumpur-is-hiding-facts-20140328-zqnzf.html

“The supposed debris…isn’t even confirmed to be from the plane yet! Show us the proof and then tell us MH370 has crashed,” wrote the pilot from the Kuala Lumpur-based airline.
“Till then stop hiding the facts! It’s obvious even to a blind man that there are tons of info the government definitely knows and isn’t sharing yet!,” he wrote.

News of the letter comes as a committee set up by relatives of the 153 Chinese passengers has begun discussions with lawyers about a potential lawsuit against Malaysia Airlines, a move that the family members have hotly debated among themselves.

“We question Malaysia’s motivations in misleading and delaying so as to miss the best moment to find MH370,’’ the relatives wrote in the letter to special envoy Zhang Yesui on Thursday, blasting Kuala Lumpur’s behaviour as “irresponsible’’ and “inhumane’’.

“We earnestly request that China establish an investigation office into MH370,’’ the letter states, also urging “an effective communication system between the relatives and the government’’.

PLANE FLEW FASTER, CRASHED SOONER THAN THOUGHT

Australia is no longer convinced the satellite images that supposedly depicted debris fields in the southern Indian Ocean are bits of floating plane fuselage or flotsam associated with the wreck of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

A senior source close to the search said it had cooled on its belief that a debris field of 122 objects was related to plane wreckage. The source also said that reports a Thai satellite had located a separate debris field of some 300 objects were not being treated as credible by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority or the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Map of today's new search area:

The new search area is based on satellite ping data PLUS new info from data analysts that MH-370 used up more fuel earlier than previously thought. Upon reviewing Thai/Malay radar data of MH-370 from 1:21-2:15am, they found the plane was traveling faster than thought (and so burned more fuel).

Thus it (possibly) ran out of fuel earlier than they believed and started gliding earlier than believed. So it (possibly) crashed closer to 8:11am than earlier projections. So at 8:11am and thereafter, it was (possibly) moving on a slower, lower, more northeasterly track than previously expected (yellow 400knot line on new search map rather than orange/pink 469-475knot lines).

The new search area is still consistent with the HUGE satellite ping arc projections, so they have NOT abandoned that evidence yet:

The sightings would need to be confirmed by ship, which was not expected until Saturday, AMSA said in its official twitter feed.

They may also be better for taking satellite images, he said. The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation has directed satellites to capture images of the new zone.

Hishammuddin said Malaysian authorities will look into the "possibility of deep-sea search and salvage" after that time [flight data recorder's locator beacon stops pinging].
