I don't have a link but apparently the malaysians are now admitting they have radar showing several blips instead of one, all going as far as indonesia which is where their search area stops. They need indonesia to start searching their over land radar i think

I posted this 10 mins ago:

Indonesia and Thailand have said their militaries detected no sign of any unusual aircraft in their airspace.

Malaysia has asked India for help in tracing the aircraft and New Delhi’s coastguard planes have joined the search.

I agree. In my head I'm imagining a bunch of business men sitting at a table shaking their heads and saying, "Nope. Not true" over and over like a bunch of ornery toddlers.

I'm seeing flashbacks to Baghdad Bob - the "Information" Minister of Iraq - and some of his famous quotes: "There are no American infidels in Iraq" and "We have them surrounded in their tanks". Totally incompatible statements.

I'm sure we are all hoping for some really solid news today!!:please:

From SMH:

"Police investigating the backgrounds of all 239 people aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines flight are paying “special attention” to a 35 year-old Chinese Uighur man who undertook flight simulation training, according to a report in a leading Malay language newspaper in Kuala Lumpur"

"(CNN) -- Yet another conflicting storyline emerged overnight in the perplexing disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 nearly six days ago.

After search crews failed to find any trace of debris suggested by Chinese satellite photographs, Malaysian officials on Thursday denied a newspaper report that suggested the plane may have kept flying for four hours after its last reported contact.

The officials acknowledged the search for the jetliner, which disappeared early Saturday, is becoming harder and harder.

The report from The Wall Street Journal said U.S. aviation investigators and national security officials were basing their belief that the missing plane kept flying on data automatically transmitted to the ground from the passenger jet's engines.

But Malaysia's acting Transportation Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said at a news conference that the report, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter, was "inaccurate."

Maybe he chatted with the co-pilot prior to takeoff (or at the airport) and got himself a seat in the cockpit, ala Jonti Roos.

"Malaysian authorities said on Thursday there was no evidence that a jetliner missing for almost six days flew for hours after losing contact with air traffic controllers and continued to transmit technical data.

The Wall Street Journal said that U.S. aviation investigators and national security officials believed the Boeing 777 flew for a total of five hours, based on data automatically downloaded and sent to the ground from its Rolls-Royce Trent engines as part of a standard monitoring program"

My scenario of the hijack: Plane already landed somewhere. Demands are made to the M' sian government but one that may ultimately result in collapse of the M'sia government. Not monetary demand but something that may result in people revolt n chaos. So they are probably buying time now hence all the delay n ambiguity.

If you follow M'sia politic closely you would know what happens to the opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in court A DAY before the hijack. Clue Anwar Ibrahim Sodomy II Trial

Amazing. I read about it here after seeing your post: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anwar_Ibrahim_sodomy_trials"]Anwar Ibrahim sodomy trials - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

I think your theory is very very possible. But what stood out so much when reading? The deeply entrenched corruption in the Malaysian gov't - I mean, it was obvious that the gov't was falsifying evidence. Head is spinning now! :scared:

Flew for 5 hours or was running for 5 hours? Big difference to me.

The only person who can tell is Rolls Royce, and they are being extremely quite - publicly.

bbm - How can they state that a monitoring system that automatically sends data = NO EVIDENCE ????
imho - this is the best kind of evidence - no human tinkering involved - can't imagine the frustration of the U.S. representatives that are over there trying to help amidst all this confusion....

In other aviation/terroristic news:

Two Arab airlines have been named as the first to screen passengers against Interpol’s vast database of lost and stolen travel documents, amid an ongoing search for a Malaysia Airlines jet.

The international police organization said on Tuesday it would allow Qatar Airways and Air Arabia to search its databases to verify passengers’ details, AP reported.

Air Arabia later denied knowledge of such a plan, a spokesperson told Al Arabiya News.

Interpol’s database was previously only searchable by national authorities such as border police. But the test could see the police agency open up its database to more airlines and private-sector companies.
Despite the database being available to authorities to search, AP reported that only a handful of countries actively use it - primarily the United States, Britain and the United Arab Emirates.

So if we return to day 1, didn't initial reports indicate the plane had actually landed somewhere in china...? Maybe we really ARE back at the beginning.

My theory for the past few days is that this is a huge cover up by the Malaysian govt. Either 1) because their military accidentally shot the plane down or 2) ongoing or failed hostage/hijacking negotiations.

Going along with John51's theory, I'd like to add these quotes - from the BBC the day before the hijacking - about Anwar Ibrahim:

...."More than half a century after independence, we don't want poor Malays to be marginalised or Chinese to feel discriminated and Indians ignored”...

The three-party opposition comprised Mr Anwar's multi-racial party, a secular Chinese-majority party and a conservative party of Muslim Malays.

so, if RR can remotely monitor engine systems, shouldn't there be data whether or not the engine shut down properly (aka, landed) vs. an abrupt shutdown (aka, crash/explosion)?

I apologize that I am so far behind... Am catching up... And this may have been addressed...

but Redheadedgal has a great point here (IMO)...

seems RR would be able to discern what condition the engine was in until it stopped...

Explosion versus landing versus ???

U.S. counterterrorism officials are pursuing the possibility that a pilot or someone else on board the plane may have diverted it toward an undisclosed location after intentionally turning off the jetliner's transponders to avoid radar detection, the Journal reported, said citing one person tracking the probe.

The latest revelations come as numerous leads encountered in the search for the aircraft that began six days ago failed to provide clues on where the plane might be.

Rolls-Royce data suggests missing Malaysia flight was in air for four hours after disappearing

But new data transmitted from the two Trent 800 engines shows the plane flew for some five hours in total meaning it could have travelled more than 2,500 miles than thought.

In that time it could have reached as far north as the India/Pakistan border or as far south as North West Australia, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Wall Street Journal the engine data is now being analysed to track the plane's flight path after the transponders stopped working.
