I also heard KLM and Malysian Air still hoping to 'facilitate' relatives travelling to Ukraine, if they wish to, and if it's possible!

No!

Dumb idea .. I thought it was a bad idea when they did it for MH370 too .. what on earth is the point. A) It's a war zone B) Some things are better not seen C) WHY???

Ukrainian Su-25 fighter detected in close approach to MH17 before crash - Moscow

The Russian military detected a Ukrainian SU-25 fighter jet gaining height towards the MH17 Boeing on the day of the catastrophe.
Kiev must explain why the military jet was tracking the passenger airplane, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"[We] would like to get an explanation as to why the military jet was flying along a civil aviation corridor at almost the same time and at the same level as a passenger plane,” he stated.

I don't like game playing! This is what they are doing. I pray no harm comes to the Malay official.

I agree. Why? Because they feel they can. IMO. Again jumping off your post. I guess I'm ready to chime in now.

What a crock! Why all the mystery? Do these people really think the world is stupid?!

The resolution, unanimously passed, calls for for an independent investigation and full access to the site. Julie Bishop, Australia's ambassador to the UN, describes the resolution:

"Armed groups in control of the crash site provide safe access immedately to allow for the recovery of the bodies. These armed groups top any actions that compromise the integrity of the crash site. There must be a ceasefire in the immediate area around the site.

"Russia must use its influrnce [among] separatist [groups] to ensure this. [Russia] must use its influence to bring the conflict in east Ukraine to an end."

Well Noah Sneider, journo who appears to be tweeting from a position of some danger, says the moment the train left, two jet fighters flew over and dropped bombs nearby. So maybe it's safer if train route destination was not announced?

Thank you, I think that perfectly illustrates the complexities of the situation for all involved over there.

There is a fundamental distrust between the groups over there and I think fear plays a major part in the strategy adopted in dealing with the crash site. I think this distrust and fear is the reason why people were kept away from the scene, why there was so much security and why the locations of the bodies are kept secret.

There's a Channel 4 dispatches documentary (uk) on right now called Murder in the Sky. I haven't seen it and doubt it has much more detail than these threads on WS but might try and get it on 4od tomorrow.

UN meet in New York. US Ambassador talking.

20:35: She says separatists have carted away evidence and damaging the wreckage.
20:34: Samantha Power, the US ambassador to the UN, says "we are not only outraged at the attack itself, we are horrified and enraged by what has happened since", including the obstruction of the investigation.
