Really, I think if people don't get out now, there may be a situation where the world's left with trying to figure out how to retrieve their living journalists and investigators, not just deceased passengers.

Power on the train was out overnight. Supposedly back on today but I'm guessing it won't last long with the situation.

'AP journalists at the site said the smell of decay was overwhelming Monday and many with the inspectors wore masks or pressed cloths to the faces on the warm summer day. A train engineer told The Associated Press that a power outage had hit the cars' refrigeration system overnight and it was not immediately clear why. The cooling system was back up and running early Monday, he said.'

Aha. That must have been when the OSCE were there. The refrigerated carriages have a distinctive sound and they were silent on the news.

Agree Zwiebel. UN forces will be on standby.

Australia has military transport and I'm certain they will go in if necessary. From what the Prime Minister has said, they're trying to avoid it and using all other means available to them first.

Russia is now claiming a Ukraine fighter jet was flying around 5kms away and at same height, when MH17 went down.

So I guess they're suggesting the missile came from the air, rather than the ground as US sources suggest?

He did an excellent job as the first reporter on the site before anyone could get there, he is freelance and I hope his reports end up with him being picked up by a news service.

Some of these creeps around them, the rebels speak english. It is delicate they have to make all the right noises right now to get those bodies transferred. And to get to the crash site. so i take the statements with a large grain of salt

All over social media I've seen posts from journos about having seen what could be 'vital evidence' from the crash scene, re plane wreckage. I wish more photos had been taken though, as they are probably going to be the best source of information to accident investigators in future.

Maybe more will surface soon.

Who? Schneider?

The Govt Finance Minister of Ukraine has decided this is a good time to appeal for funding to help with the $130m monthly costs of its 'anti-terror' campaign. It sounds like he's exploiting the dead passengers rich nations want back.

I don't know zwiebel. They have been desperately trying to get help for months now with nothing but weak sanctions due to european apathy. I understand them reiterating their request now the worlds heads have snapped up

Remember this is a sovreign nation who are at war because a small minority have decided they want to be with russia and are intent on destabilizing that area of the country. As one resident said, they want to be free to make their borscht and pelmeni.

I heard a military leader (US) in the first days say that it couldn't have been a flying air to air missile and why. It had something to do with radar signatures

Russia is saying all the wrong things, but the biggest clue was that 200 soldiers entered into the area from russia. That speaks volumes about Putins plans

We need links to your quotes from MSM. Thanks

http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/how-the-us-knew-missile-shot-down-mh17
"How the US knew missile shot down MH17"
"An advanced spy satellite network sensitive enough to detect heat signatures from missiles
may have been used by the United States to conclude Flight MH17 was shot down over the Ukraine.
According to the Los Angeles Times (LAT), the specialised spy technology known as measurement
and signature intelligence (MASINT) allows the US to identify and track the electronic signatures
similarly to how radar operates."

http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-fg-satellites-ukraine-missile-20140717-story.html
"High-tech spycraft tracked missile's path to Malaysia Airlines jet"
"The assessment was almost certainly based on a technical branch of spycraft known as measurement
and signature intelligence, or MASINT, analysts said. The method detects, tracks and identifies
a variety of electronic signatures, including radar."
"Separately, the U.S. operates sensitive listening satellites that can capture a wide range of
electronic emissions from foreign nations' defense systems, allowing analysts to determine the
origin of the signals and the type weapon that was used."
