There was another decapitated woman that could have been linked!!!!

SOURCE: Looking for Long Island links, Investigators comb through a pair of past unsolved local killings to see if Glen Cove suspect is connected: [ALL EDITIONS]

uffolk police are investigating whether two unsolved murders in which women were decapitated are connected to the slaying of a retired educator in Glen Cove who was similarly dismembered, authorities said yesterday.

So far, no evidence links Thursday's killing of Denice Fox, 57, to the bodies found in Manorville in 2000 and 2003 said Det. Sgt. Vincent Posillico of Suffolk's Homicide Squad.

"Right now, it's just the obvious," Posillico said of any possible link. "There are three cases with females who were decapitated."

Posillico's comments came after Det. Sgt. Dennis Barry of Nassau's Homicide Squad spoke during a news conference about Suffolk's efforts to find possible connections.

No arrests have been made in either Suffolk case.

In Nassau, police on Friday arrested and charged Evan Marshall, 31, of Glen Cove with second-degree murder in the decapitation and dismemberment of Fox, his neighbor.

Since the killing, police have been trying to determine whether Marshall, a bedding salesman, is connected to other, similar crimes.

In November 2000, an unidentified woman between 30 and 40 years old was discovered with her head and hands removed in a heavily wooded area just off Halsey Manor Road, north of the Long Island Expressway in Manorville. In July 2003, a dead woman later identified as Jessica Taylor, 20, of Washington, D.C., was found without a head or hands about 300 feet west of Halsey Manor Road, Posillico said.

Taylor, a prostitute with relatives upstate, had to be identified by means of a tattoo on her body, Posillico said.

Neither of the women's heads were ever found, police said. No evidence was uncovered to suggest a common killer in the two cases, Posillico said.

While authorities probe deeper into similar killings on Long Island, the investigative scope is stretching nationwide.

In addition to the FBI, Nassau police contacted authorities in other states - including Arizona, California and Florida - where Marshall lived to see whether similar crimes have been committed there.

Investigators have also been in contact with at least two rehabilitation centers in Miami and upstate Brewster, where Marshall received treatment. Barry didn't know what treatment he received.

Before his recent arrest, Marshall had no record of a violent criminal history, with charges only of petit larceny and driving while intoxicated, Barry said.

In a brief court appearance yesterday in Mineola, Nassau prosecutor Mitch Benson requested a court order for a DNA swab from Marshall so it can be compared to evidence from the crime scenes.

While being escorted past news reporters to a police vehicle, Marshall glared at them and snapped, "I make no comments. I told you that!"

Police have described Marshall as a psychosexual murderer. During the investigation, Nassau police seized boxes of pornographic VHS tapes, sadomasochistic paraphernalia and sex toys from Marshall's basement room closet.

Barry said he "couldn't say" if Fox had been sexually assaulted. "That's still being conducted by the medical examiner."

Other details also emerged about Marshall's life. After graduating in 1997 from Arizona State University in Tempe with a history degree, Marshall earned a master's degree at Hofstra University in Hempstead and worked as a salesman at Rockaway Bedding in upstate Carmel. Workers there said they had no sign that Marshall would commit such a crime...

Not related to Manorville but possibly from Long Island- a human head floated up on a New Jersey Beach in 1990...

SOURCE: Beach Debris Fears Wane But shores still teeming with restless refuse: [CITY Edition]
By William Bunch. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 03 Sep 1990.

Five hypodermic needles and tar balls washing ashore at Jones Beach State Park; a mile and a half of Long Island beachfront closed by "sewage grease"; a 3-mile-long garbage slick off New Jersey that included a bag with a severed human head.

It sounds like the headlines from the summer of 1988, when ocean pollution caused a panic that sharply drove down beach attendance in New York and elsewhere and sparked an environmental debate that hit the covers of national news magazines.

But these three incidents and others belong to the summer of 1990 - a year that has been virtually devoid of publicity over floating gunk and has been marked by generally large crowds at area beaches.

July 25. A long garbage slick (5 kilometers) spotted off Highlands, N.J., containing plastic sheeting and bottles, condoms, straws, cigarette butts, plastic foam pieces, aluminum foil, wood, grease balls, grass clippings, feathers, fiberglass, soft balls, tennis balls and household debris;

Also, Belmar, Monmouth Beach, Allenhurst and Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park beaches in New Jersey closed because of a wash-up of large pieces of wood, grass clippings and a bag containing a severed human head and body parts...

Anyone know anything else about this victim??

This is is the same stretch of woods as all of the other Manorville bodies. The town that borders them on the North side is Calverton.

SOURCE: Missing Man Found Dead: [HOME Edition]
Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 26 Apr 1988: 24.

Suffolk police identified a partially decomposed body found in the woods in Calverton yesterday as Lewis R. Johnson, 50, who had been reported missing March 30.

Johnson, a caretaker who lived at 16 Otis Lane, Bellport, apparently had been stabbed, police said. His car had been found abandoned in a parking area off Peconic Avenue in Riverhead on April 4.

His body was found near several trails in the woods, one-quarter to one-half mile east of the rest stop on the east side of Route 24, just north of the Southampton-Brookhaven town line.

Police searched the area yesterday after a motorist, who had wandered into the woods and discovered the body, called them at 12:30 p.m. The man was found lying near a trail, partly covered with leaves and branches, police said.

SOURCE: Cops: Housekeeper Was Killed Weeks Ago: [NASSAU AND SUFFOLK Edition]
By Tom Demoretcky. Rebecca Morris contributed to thisstory.. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 27 Apr 1988: 23.

Lewis Johnson, the Westhampton man whose body was found in thewoods in Calverton on Monday, had been missing since March 30 and was probably killed at about the time he disappeared, police said yesterday.

Johnson, 50, who was employed as a housekeeper on a Bellport estate, had disappeared after he went to Riverhead to run an errand, according to Suffolk homicide detectives. Det. Lt. John McElhone, commanding officer of the homicide squad, said preliminary autopsy results indicate Johnson was probably killed about that time. McElhone said Johnson was not officially reported missing until April 4, when his car was found abandoned in a parking lot in downtown Riverhead.

The body, stabbed repeatedly, was found in an area of pine barrens behind a rest area on Route 24, between the Long Island Expressway and the county jail. The body was covered with leaves and debris, and McElhone said that it was apparently a deliberate attempt to bury the body. He added that the body had been there too long for police to be able to tell if there had been a struggle. He said that because Johnson was a large man - over six feet and 200 pounds - and the body was found more than a quarter mile from the road, it was likely that the murder was committed at the scene. The badly decomposed body was identified with the help of dental records.

According to police the rest area was a well-known rendezvous area for homosexuals and a friend of Johnson's told them that Johnson frequented the area. Police from the missing persons unit posted fliers at the spot after Johnson's disappearance. They also were seeking information about a man he reportedly met in a Riverhead restaurant on the day he disappeared. The man has not been found.

Wick, Steve. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 13 Mar 1990: 20.

Riverhead Town highway crew yesterday discovered the body of a girl in a section of woods off Osborn Avenue, police said. Det. Sgt. Kevin Cronin, of the Suffolk County homicide squad, said the badly decomposed body was discovered at about 12:40 p.m. Suffolk homicide detectives, along with members of the county crime laboratory, arrived at the scene an hour later. Police said the girl's age could be anywhere from 12 to early 20s.

For several hours, detectives combed the area around the body and took photographs. At around 4 p.m., the body was removed by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office and taken to Hauppauge for an autopsy.

Cronin said he could not estimate how long the body had been in the woods. He said it was found 60 feet in from Osborn Avenue, just south of the intersection of Horton Avenue. The area appeared to be used by town highway crews to dump sand and other debris...

Another example of the Pine Barrens in Manorville being used as a place to hide human remains;

SOURCE: Clues Sought in Child Death: [NASSAU AND SUFFOLK Edition]
By Mitchell Freedman. STAFF WRITER. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 03 May 1996: A.23.

Displaying a dress that once might have been green or gray or blue - but now faded to near-colorlessness by exposure to the elements - Suffolk homicide detectives yesterday asked for help in finding out the identity of its owner - a child whose body was found in a shallow grave in Manorville last week.

The dress, along with a red and white T-shirt and a piece of green, flowered cloth, was found with the bones of a young child just off the Long Island Expressway last Saturday.

The clothing is the best clue to who the owner might be. And, without a name, it is extremely difficult to start an investigation.

Homicide detectives have gone through old missing persons cases, as well as contacting other police departments in the region, and have not come up with any cases that seem to match the skeletal remains.

The child's skull was found by a man walking with his dog, and a search of the area led to the discovery of the rest of the skeleton in a shallow grave, hidden from the road by a slight rise.

"We believe its a female, based on the clothing," said Det. Sgt. Robert Doyle.

The bones were found only a stone's throw from the busy highway, about a mile east of Exit 70 (Route 111), in an isolated area of the pine barrens.

Detectives said the skeleton had been in its grave for at least a year, but that it might have been there for two or three. Based on the size of the skeleton, officials believe the child might have been about 4 years old.

Also found with the body were two pieces of cotton cloth, green, with a large flowered design.

SOURCE: Her call unanswered, Foster mother of girl slain in 1990 says social services never responded about suspected abuse: [ALL EDITIONS]
DENISE M. BONILLA. STAFF WRITER. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 27 Mar 2006: A02.

Crying and clinging to her foster mother's leg, 4-year-old Jennifer Shafiq seemed terrified as her mother beckoned her to come home with her. Jennifer had been back in her biological mother's care for only five months, but after visiting her foster mother, the child refused to leave.

"I picked her up and put her in the car and she started crying," recalled Jennifer's foster mother, Lucille Ventrelli, whom the girl called Grandma. "And then I went in the house and I started crying. I said to my husband, 'There's something wrong.'"

Ventrelli said she alerted Nassau's department of social services that she suspected abuse but never heard back. She said she did not look for Jennifer because it is illegal for foster parents to seek out their former charges.

Two months later, Jennifer's mother, Khairual Abdul, would shake and throw Jennifer to the concrete floor with such violence that the little girl died, Suffolk police said. Jennifer's father, Parmjit Singh, later buried Jennifer in a shallow grave off the Long Island Expressway, prosecutors say.

Ventrelli finally learned of Jennifer's fate when police called to ask her whether she remembered the little girl, and to show her photos of Jennifer's biological parents, who had been arrested in California in connection with the girl's murder.

On Thursday Abdul was arraigned for Jennifer's murder, while Singh, her husband, was arraigned for hindering prosecution.

Prosecutor Kerriann Kelly said Abdul has confessed to the murder and Singh to burying Jennifer's remains in the Pine Barrens in Manorville, where they went undiscovered for six years. Police said they were unable to identify the remains until Singh told them Abdul had committed the murder.

Jennifer's death came after months of abuse by Abdul that led to broken bones and scalded skin, police said...

Ventrelli said she had heard news reports of police finding remains in Manorville in 1996, but did not make the connection. Nor did she see police photos of the nightshirt they found with Jennifer's remains: It read, "My Heart Belongs to Grandma." Ventrelli said it was a hand-me-down from Ventrelli's granddaughter, Angel...

jeez
Thanks Seaslug, I am just speechless.
What the heck is wrong with people and the police have not considered all this and/or our faithful profession reports have not dug all this up with the current case.
You should become an investigative reporter because the field is in dire need.

In the Fox Case (2006) where her Glen Cove neighbor, (Evan Marshall, 31) decapitated her, I noticed that the article here:
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/lo...ostemailedlink Link no longer works but you can find many related articles here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...32+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a

notes that a man's head was found in a pond around the same time as Jessica Taylor's murder and decapitation.

..."On Thursday, Fox's daughter called Glen Cove police after she came to her mother's home and found blood in the vestibule. Police canvassing the neighborhood were allowed into Marshall's home by his mother, Jackie, and soon made their grisly discovery.

Neither Marshall, nor his mother, have cooperated with the investigation and both have retained lawyers, Barry said.

Marshall also is suspected of using his car to run down a woman walking on a road about a mile away from the Fox home on Thursday morning. The woman was hospitalized, but her injuries were not life-threatening.

Nassau police have contacted the FBI and police departments in several jurisdictions for possible links to the Fox killing.

"We know that he had relatives out in California, we know that he went to Arizona State University, we know that he spent time in southern Florida," Barry said. He said Marshall has relatives in the Boynton Beach, Fla., area, as well as in San Francisco and Newport Beach, Calif. Marshall also was enrolled in an unspecified "rehab" clinic in Miami.

So far, police in those areas have not responded to the inquiries from Nassau County, Barry said.

Nassau police also were looking into possible links involving two unsolved cases in neighboring Suffolk County, where a woman between 30 and 40 was found in November 2000 in a remote area near the Long Island Expressway with her head and hands removed. In 2003, a man's head was found in a frozen pond in Moriches."

Also, in another article it says that Jessica Taylor had SEVERAL Tattoos. So the next question is, "Why mutilate just the Remy's Angel" tattoo? Were the other tats altered?

Quote:
"Suffolk homicide detectives said yesterday they are exploring the possibility that the deaths of two young women - both found headless and handless only a mile apart in the same patch of Manorville woods - are linked.

On Saturday, an unidentified body was found about 10:45 a.m. by a woman who was walking a dog off Halsey Manor Road. The body, which had several tattoos, was naked and rested on a pile of branches."

What if Evan Marshall actually is responsible for all of the 2000-2006 Manorville cases (JD, JT, two males, the identifying body parts disposed of along the OP) and the 2003 man's head. That would then make it TWO separate killers. Manorville has never connected, IMO, to GB4.

I see a pattern. Many of the Manorville dump sites are between LIE exits 68 and 70. Is there something particularly enticing about those three or so exit ramps or is it just that these are the only Manorville exits?

You are all very welcome.

I could not sleep at all last night thinking about all of these cases and how they have been long forgotten.

I did some research and found some articles about the severed head that was found at around the same time as JT's body only a few miles south of Manorville. And yes, it is strange that she had other tattoos that were not mutilated.

SOURCE: Head Found In Frozen River / Skaters make discovery in Moriches: [NASSAU AND SUFFOLK Edition]
Michael Rothfeld and Sumathi Reddy. STAFF WRITERS; Staff writers Samuel Bruchey and Theresa Vargas contributed to this story.. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 26 Jan 2003: A32.

Two ice-skaters out to enjoy the day on a frozen river in a Moriches neighborhood made a grisly discovery on the shoreline yesterday: a severed human head partially submerged under the ice, Suffolk police said.

The Homicide Squad is investigating the case.

The head was found at 12:18 p.m. in the western branch of the Forge River, about 50 feet from a home on Barnes Road, just north of Montauk Highway.

The head was taken to the Suffolk medical examiner's office for identification. The race and gender of the person has not been determined.

"Our Emergency Services people came and they plucked it out of the ice," Suffolk police spokesman John Yeary said.

Police blocked off the street, then used a chain saw to cut the head out, creating a 2-foot by 4-foot hole.

The discovery stunned local residents, who say the river is a popular place to ice-skate and feed the ducks and geese.

Residents wondered how a severed head could have gotten there. They said the river has been frozen for about 10 days.

"Hopefully it ain't a mother with kids," said Eddie Paris, also of Barnes Road. "It's a shame."

Paris said police told him the head appeared to have been there for a long time.

A woman who lives across the street from where the body part was found said she heard that children had found the head, though police would not confirm that.

SOURCE: Bullet Found in Severed Head Police await thaw of body part to ID: [NASSAU AND SUFFOLK Edition]
J. Jioni Palmer. STAFF WRITER. Staff Writer Samuel Bruchey contributed to this story.. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 27 Jan 2003: A16.

Suffolk police said yesterday an X-ray of the detached head found Saturday along the bank of the frozen Forge River in Moriches contains a bullet.

Attempts to identify the person have been stymied because the head was covered in muck and was still frozen as of yesterday afternoon, limiting a thorough medical examination, said Det. Sgt. Edward Fandrey of the Homicide Squad.

"We are waiting for the remains to defrost on their own," said Fandrey, noting that attempts to speed up that process could damage evidence.

The partially submerged head was found Saturday afternoon by two ice-skaters on the eastern shore near Barnes Road, just north of Montauk Highway in Moriches.

Fandrey said even identifying basic features about the head, such as hair and skin color, has been difficult, although investigators are "reasonably certain" it belongs to a black or white male.

Once more specific determinations are made about race and age, investigators will canvas unsolved missing persons cases in an effort to identify the head, using dental records and DNA samples as a means of making a positive identification.

Yesterday, investigators continued to search the area around the pond, but did not find any further evidence.

Nearby residents told authorities the river began freezing over about two weeks ago. Fandrey said investigators are working on the theory that the head was in the water for at least that long.

Police are considering sending divers below the river surface to see if the body belonging to the head is below the ice, Fandrey said.

"We will search the pond at a later date," Fandrey said. "We are preparing to go down now if we have to."

Well, that 2003 head with a bullet found in it does not fit with the others...I bet the rest of the body detached naturally and was somewhere in that river or along the banks.

I think sometimes we over thinK things. Sometimes something obvious and simple can be the answer too. And I will bet in the end we will find that the SK is a member on this site watching.

And I'm just gonna say I think he's a Caucasian male, a bit older (40-50), family guy who does a lot of traveling. I don't think these bodies are positioned in anyway like someone else said--it's due to the straightness of the road. They are found in clusters cuz he feels safe for that bit of time dumping them there. Then changes up.. Asian male and child/mom are his works too. AC & GB and all the Jd are by one guy and one guy alone. It's not going to be such complications when we find the real story. I do think he has multiple MOs. Dismemberment is for forensic purposes only. I also think you are going to find that he exemplifies many of the same characteristics of the BTK. he's a dad himself to older children/teens. Possibly married or divorced. Fits right into society.

As long as you don't want to arrest people only because they know something about SKs in general, it's fine. And always remeber, a good paranoia is no proof, nobody is behind you.

How long does it take to drive 500 ft at normal speed there? And we shall believe now, this guy drives always exact 500ft by accident?
Oh, and the victimology! When did you see the last time four dead women, who have in their appearance nothing in common but ethnicity?

All that was IMO and that is what I believe. To critically think sometimes you have to step out of the "box" and look at everything, which also means that sometimes we tend to over think things. It's human nature to do so.

The oct/Nov 2006 Atlantic City serial killer case ;)

As far as the 500 feet spacing of the GB4 victims, take that with a grain of salt and not as literal as the police statements and press suggest. In the proper forum I will get around to posting proof that their spacing is not as precise as we were led to think.

I have had this thought, k.i.s.s. and that the killer is loving the confusion he has caused. Laughing all the way to the bank.

In that particular area along OCean Parkway there are a bunch of different ways to estimate spacing. There are all kinds of landmarks (Dunes, harbors, turnarounds, mile markers).
