Wow. Here's the follow up to the 82 year old man who was attacked and killed in Scarborough:

Arrest made in killing of Scarborough man; suspect linked to other violent attacks across southern Maine

Thank you for posting, Meredith. I am so glad he was caught since he is such a dangerous individual. Been concerned that he was at large. I feel so sorry for the 82 year old man and his family, as well as the other victims. Too much crazy stuff going on here lately.

Another follow-up which, to me, was a good reminder that there are times when LE has so much more information than we know:

Scarborough Maine Police Department
So sad that one of the Scarborough officers lost her father in this senseless crime. Rest in peace, Mr. Pearson. I am glad that they caught this scum bag. Thoughts and prayers to his other victims, too.

I have a question- would if Anneliese voluntarily went into a rehab. Would LE be able to get a hold of that information, or would the rehab respect her privacy and not tell anyone where she is, including family?
I do believe they would tell law enforcement but no anyone else unless she signed a document as to who is allowed to know she’s there. IME

It’s a long shot, but I hope they find out where this guy was when AH went missing.
Same and the longer this drags on the less I find suicide to be likely. If she were going to jump, what is she going to do - walk ten miles to do it? Meanwhile, it seems nearly everyone who knows her has moved on. Unreal.

And
Yeah, that's like one of the scariest faces I've ever seen.

He reminds me of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies with that sly grin.
And the dead eyes. Plus, there's a smugness and a don't-give-a-eff look.

And with THAT THING out there near the same time Anneliese goes missing?

Yeh, if she disappeared herself, she’d have turned up by now. I mean unless she was in rehab. HIPAA protects her right to privacy. They are mandatory reporters in cases of a crime, but since a crime hasn’t been committed by her, those who run the rehab can’t tell anyone unless she instructs them to, like her parents, or a sibling.

I do believe what would happen in the cases of LE looking for her, is they would tell her and basically get her to agree to inform LE of her attendance. I’m not sure legally if the rehab center can be compelled to notify LE without her permission. IME.

Yeah, I know the HIPAA laws are strict but I believe we would hear an update that she's been located, is safe and no further information will be forthcoming. I can't imagine not updating the status of a missing person and any hospital not having some kind of duty just to notify police she's alive. Then again, what do I know?

Well, you could be right. Recently my ex sister-in-law was found wandering the streets and was put into a psych hospital for two weeks, when I got a call from the nurse. Of course she made the call with my ex sister-in-law‘s approval when she was lucid. She didn’t know that her brother, my husband, had passed away two and a half years ago. She had wanted his help. Point is, she gave permission to reach out to family.

My brain is just overwhelmed with crime and criminals

Jeez, I hope she's better now. How scary.

So what happens now? I am new to WS and this is the first case I have followed. We don't seem to have any new information and I, personally, feel like the search has hit a wall. For those of you who have been involved in WS for a while, is this common?
