If someone with a hearing impairment is experiencing auditory hallucinations, then gets hearing aids, would it make the auditory hallucinations louder? Hopefully my question makes sense.
No, because the auditory stimulus is from the brain. Outside source would not affect interior auditory stimulus. The problem many people have with hearing aids, is that they need to be used consistently, as in all of the time, to allow the auditory system time to receive, and interpret the information. It is important to continue to stimulate the auditory system and learn how things sound with hearing aids.
Many people have problems with using hearing aids, as in the beginning, you hear absolutely every sound, amplified. Yourself chewing, while simultaneously trying to listen to someone talk. It takes practice to learn how to filter out unnecessary sounds in the environment.
