Mel Gibson, being the clairvoyant that he is, declared himself to suffer from manic-depression, ten years ago, in the likely event that he would be taped, surreptitiously, ranting maniacally? To dismiss all valid excuses simply because they are overused seems a little unfair to those truly afflicted.
As to why he is off his meds, it is my contention that the only tapes being released are those in which Mel is not under any medication, as they support Oksana's case. She made the tapes so she can pick and choose what people hear. Moreover, it is not entirely established that he is taking medication. In one part of the tape, Oksana herself says, "you need medication." It is often the case that manic-depressives choose to self-medicate with alcohol, which seems to be the case with Mel.
