LOTS of new details.
Wow. I’ll be shocked and appalled if a judge lowers their bail.

All they had to do was tell the school that they recently purchased a gun for their son, ask him where the gun was, open his backpack, or just take him home. The evidence will show that the gun was accessible to their son, and by both of their own admissions Defendants kept the gun in an unlocked armoire cupboard. Further, on the very date of the shooting, Defendant Jennifer Crumbley gave inconsistent statements to various individuals regarding the location and accessibility of the gun, including a claim to her boyfriend that she had it in her car. It would only have taken them ‘minutes to ascertain the exact location of their son's gun— their home was only 1.4 miles from the school, and less than a five-minute drive. Indeed, we know that, once motivated to do so, Defendant father was able to quickly do just that drive home and determine that the gun was missing. Defendants were in a better position than anyone else in the world to prevent this tragedy, but they failed to do s0.

The evidence will furthershow that these Defendants willfully ignored the needs and well- being of their son and the threat he posed to others. Their son was torturing animals, even leaving a baby birds’ head in a jar on his bedroom floor, which he later took and placed in a school bathroom. Meanwhile Defendants were focusing on themselves and their own issues, including things like extra-marital affairs, financial issues, and substance abuse issues.3

3. Defendants have illustrated that point in their actions and statements after the shooting. They retained attorneys for themselves, but not their son, and Defendant mother stated in both statements to a co-worker and text that her son’s destiny is done and she has to take care of herself.

So, according to the Motion, Mrs. Crumbley text EC "don't do it" after the shootings had already happened, and she was telling her son not to kill himself. If that were MY son, I would have texted "What have you done?" "Why did you do this?" MOO

Almost like, AFTER the fact, she was only trying (badly) to (legally) cover her ###. i.e. See! I told him not to do it! These are the same parents who immediately FLED while their son was being arrested / arraigned.

Wow. Damning stuff. These new details certainly begin to paint a more complete picture.

The most shocking part is the mother's statement saying her son's destiny is done and she has to take care of herself. Clear to me that the parents had already written their son off, basically abdicating any and all care and responsibility.

As I alluded to in a previous post, maybe buying him a GUN and allowing already dire, festering issues to take their horrific course was their plan to be permanently rid of him (death or prison). If this is the case, they may be in for way more than multiple counts of involuntary manslaughter. Either way, my god, these two people are beyond horrific.

That part where she tells the boyfriend the gun is “in her car” implies she called him after the school meeting and told him about the drawings, the boyfriend must have then asked, does he have access to the gun?

Why would she tell him the gun was in her car? What would that lie gain her?

But what if it was in her car? Did she return to the school and give EC the gun?!! Knowing he was homicidal / suicidal?!!

I think if that was the case her charges would’ve been upgraded to accessory to murder. I think the texts were sent after the shooting occurred

So you think the boyfriend called her after the shooting, suspecting her son, and she reassured him with a lie?
Before or after she texted her son, “don’t do it”?

That motion certainly paints a very damning picture. So many red flags about EC. His only friend moves, the dog dies, he's got a dead bird's head in his room, sends his mom disturbing texts and their solution is to buy him a gun. Oh, and his older half-brother had left the home recently after some kind of clash with JeC, not mentioned in the motion, but from the brother himself. Lots going on, none of it positive. Rather than say, taking him to counseling or even maybe talking to him themselves, they buy him a gun. And his mom's comments about he's reached his destiny? Wow.

I have a feeling things are going to get real ugly between the parents. I wonder how much JaC knew about JeC's extra-marital activities? Or did he have his own?

No way their bond will get lowered, imo.

I can’t say how it went down, but in the court filing it’s written as if she told her lies after the shooting had already happened: “Further, on the very date of the shooting, Defendant Jennifer Crumbley gave inconsistent statements to various individuals regarding the location and accessibility of the gun, including a claim to her boyfriend that she had it in her car. Yes, this is the part that makes me think she called her boyfriend after the meeting at school that morning, after she left at 10:55, and reassured him not to worry because she had the gun in her car.
It doesn’t make sense to me that she would say she had the gun after the shooting, as both parents instinctively knew the shooter was their son as soon as they heard there was a shooting. Mom texted the shooter and Dad raced home to confirm the gun was not there.
But I’m only speculating based on the timeline and that court filing.

Our school's (roughest school in a district of ill repute) ability to use zero tolerance is limited by the number spaces available in the alternative school.

Usually, the alternative school is near capacity and a complete and total expulsion is not possible. So, the principle needs to make judgement calls on who they banish there. Then there is the issues of kids coming back from the alternative school more "experienced" and thus more problematic.

Likewise, being banished to on line classes may not be an option as our state requires in person classes for any parent who wishes it- even parents of problem children.

@Cryptic thank you for this explanation. I’ve heard arguments against zero tolerance (that it does not solve the problem and makes things worse), but I hadn’t understood why it made things worse. Your reply has spelled out the “why” in plain terms, and has given me food for more thought on my hard-line position. Much appreciated.

Merry Christmas Eve to you, and all my fellow sleuthers!

A baby birds head? He was already starting to be a serial murderer. What a terrible home life. We knew there was more to this story. JMOO

EC left the baby bird head in the school bathroom. In early November, there was a reported incident where someone tossed a deer head from the school’s roof and splashed red paint on some of its windows and the top of the building, according to The Associated Press.

School issued two memos saying the incident was “absolutely unrelated” to the shooting, but to my eye, there is an uncanny resemblance. Are there other disturbed students at Oxford?
