I find it incomprehensible, personally, that any parent would buy any child a fire arm. Utterly, utterly incomprehensible. I've never heard of people doing such, either.Agree, after the fact they most certainly would have regretted the purchase of the gun, as most parents in this situation would. So many parents do the same, i.e purchase a gun for their children, but don't ever expect this kind of outcome.

Just MOO.
I haven't read every post in these threads but I did read a few pages back to refresh my memory. IMO them taking the gun receipt with them and having on their person when they were found shows that they were only concerned about themselves. I agree they should have called an attorney and worked with LE rather than running. They could've gone straight to the police, calling an attorney on the way there, to meet them there.
Instead they went on the lam

IIRC their attorney was expecting them to turn themselves in and represented that...I haven't read every post in these threads but I did read a few pages back to refresh my memory. Thanks for the info-- I was Under the impression that, across the US, a minor could not be given life without parole- Guess that is not the case. Of course Ethan wants that dismissed. I don't think the judge will grant a motion that won't allow shooting victims and witnesses from testifying at the hearing---- at least I hope he won't grant that motionPontiac — The attorney for the Oxford High School shooter has asked an Oakland County judge to dismiss the prosecutor's request to sentence the teenager to life without parole, the first legal attempt to give the 16-year-old a chance at eventually getting out of prison.
Defense attorney Paulette Loftin also is seeking to prevent Oxford High shooting victims and witnesses from testifying at an upcoming hearing about whether it would be constitutional and appropriate to sentence Ethan Crumbley to life in prison without parole.
Oakland County prosecutors notified the court in November that they would be seeking a sentence of life without parole for the teen after Ethan pleaded guilty in October to 24 felonies including terrorism causing death and four counts of first-degree murder. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwame Rowe ruled Tuesday that the prosecution's motion to sentence Ethan Crumbley to life without parole in prison will stand. Rowe also denied the shooter's motions to wear street clothes during the upcoming Miller hearing, which will determine if it is appropriate and fair to sentence him to life without parole, and his motion to exclude some testimony from the Miller hearing.
"The Court finds that Defendant's argument is not persuasive and is without merit," Rowe wrote. "Defendant's argument is not ripe, and the Court cannot and will not dismiss the People's Motion for Life Without Parole."...
I wonder why the judge denied the motion to allow the shooter to wear street clothes at the hearing. Maybe since this isn't a jury trial, the court didn't feel it would be prejudicial if EC wore prison clothes. The teenager who killed four students and injured six others and a teacher at Oxford High School in November 2021 will still have the possibility of being sentenced to life in prison without parole, despite his attorney's attempt to convince the judge otherwise.Judge: Oxford shooter's request to throw out life without parole is 'without merit'

At the Miller hearing this month, once the defense presents mitigating factors and possibly with experts, I don't think EC will be sentenced to life without parole. His defense may have lost this battle, but they have another opportunity to convince the court that Ethan shouldn't be sentenced to LWP. JMO.
