Agree, after the fact they most certainly would have regretted the purchase of the gun, as most parents in this situation would. So many parents do the same, i.e purchase a gun for their children, but don't ever expect this kind of outcome.
I find it incomprehensible, personally, that any parent would buy any child a fire arm. Utterly, utterly incomprehensible. I've never heard of people doing such, either.
Just MOO.

I could not agree with you more, except I've heard of it. It may depend on your home country.

People go to a"shooting range" as a hobby, and they think it's a hobby to share with their teens. Or they have a - hopefully legal- weapon in their home as "self defense" and teach the teens to use it, too. They believe they are teaching them gun responsibility.

What baffles me is, were they never depressed, etc. as teens themselves? I can't imagine thinking it's an okay idea, when I think back to the unhappy teens I knew.

OXFORD, Mich.Oakland County prosecutors exposed new evidence against the parents of the Oxford High School shooter this week, including Facebook messages, interview recordings, and a piece of information about the gun receipt.

In a filing with the Michigan Supreme Court on June 8, prosecutors released more of the evidence they’ve collected against James and Jennifer Crumbley in order to prove that the couple should go to trial on involuntary manslaughter charges.

The Crumbley defense team turned to the state’s Supreme Court last month after the Michigan Court of Appeals upheld a ruling from a lower court to send the parents to trial...

They could've gone straight to the police, calling an attorney on the way there, to meet them there.

Instead they went on the lam

I haven't read every post in these threads but I did read a few pages back to refresh my memory. IMO them taking the gun receipt with them and having on their person when they were found shows that they were only concerned about themselves. I agree they should have called an attorney and worked with LE rather than running.

IIRC their attorney was expecting them to turn themselves in and represented that...

But the parents had other plans.

That's what's going to sink them.

Ethan Crumbley asked an Oakland County judge to remove the "life without parole" condition from a possible sentencing after pleading guilty to the deadly Oxford school shooting, according to court documents.

Crumbley, 17, also asked the judge if he can wear "street clothes" instead of an orange prison jumpsuit during his Miller hearing, in which a judge will decide if Crumbley can face life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to court documents.

Thanks for the info-- I was Under the impression that, across the US, a minor could not be given life without parole- Guess that is not the case. Of course Ethan wants that dismissed. I think he is a bad seed and I would not mind if he got LWOP.

Pontiac — The attorney for the Oxford High School shooter has asked an Oakland County judge to dismiss the prosecutor's request to sentence the teenager to life without parole, the first legal attempt to give the 16-year-old a chance at eventually getting out of prison.

Defense attorney Paulette Loftin also is seeking to prevent Oxford High shooting victims and witnesses from testifying at an upcoming hearing about whether it would be constitutional and appropriate to sentence Ethan Crumbley to life in prison without parole.

Oakland County prosecutors notified the court in November that they would be seeking a sentence of life without parole for the teen after Ethan pleaded guilty in October to 24 felonies including terrorism causing death and four counts of first-degree murder. He admitted to shooting and killing four classmates and injurying six other students and a teacher in November 2021...

I don't think the judge will grant a motion that won't allow shooting victims and witnesses from testifying at the hearing---- at least I hope he won't grant that motion

The teenager who killed four students and injured six others and a teacher at Oxford High School in November 2021 will still have the possibility of being sentenced to life in prison without parole, despite his attorney's attempt to convince the judge otherwise.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwame Rowe ruled Tuesday that the prosecution's motion to sentence Ethan Crumbley to life without parole in prison will stand. Rowe also denied the shooter's motions to wear street clothes during the upcoming Miller hearing, which will determine if it is appropriate and fair to sentence him to life without parole, and his motion to exclude some testimony from the Miller hearing.

"The Court finds that Defendant's argument is not persuasive and is without merit," Rowe wrote. "Defendant's argument is not ripe, and the Court cannot and will not dismiss the People's Motion for Life Without Parole."...

This is a no-nonsense judge----

I wonder why the judge denied the motion to allow the shooter to wear street clothes at the hearing. Maybe since this isn't a jury trial, the court didn't feel it would be prejudicial if EC wore prison clothes.

At the Miller hearing this month, once the defense presents mitigating factors and possibly with experts, I don't think EC will be sentenced to life without parole. His defense may have lost this battle, but they have another opportunity to convince the court that Ethan shouldn't be sentenced to LWP. JMO.
